This was my favorite N64 game to play with friends. I first played it at a kids camp when I was 7. It was by far the most popular game there. Often lines of kids waiting for a turn to play formed. After I got my own copy, what followed for many years were nothing but great times with friends. I may have lost more than I won, but I had too much fun to care. I even once tried to teach my grandpa how to play. When I have kids one day, I look forward to showing them this great part of my childhood.

Love this game, did back then when it came out and still do today. Melee might had made the smash series really well known and set a kind of gameplay and guideline for the other smash to come (dodging, adventure mode, trophies and such) but this started it all. For a game that was made under a low budget is really well done and to include Nintendo well known characters to fight each other was so mind-blowing back then (and still is in a way today).

Yea the creator of Smash pretty much said as much. Hes saying they've wanted to do a portable smash for a while but didnt have the hardware before to do it justice. Smash 3ds isn't going to expand on brawl but will instead focus on single player more with levelling up and linking to the console. Smash for Wii U will be the next gen smash but that wont be for a while yet.

i just realized somthing, they added pikachu cause he is the main pokemon character from the TV shows, but jigglypuff is not a mai character she is just randomly put in there, y didnt they add meowth, he is important to the TV show 2! It would be awsome to see pikachu and meowth duking it out on the stage

Well Jigglypuff is kind of a recurring character in the TV show too, certainly not important otherwise. But yeah pity about meowth. In melee hes not even in one of the pokeballs.

somthing good to do on brawl is to create a stage were it is juat a box with a hole to get in at the top, get a friend and get each others health up high then the go flying around the box when you get hit it realy fun

Playing it as I watch this on my N64, and I am a big fan! I have Brawl too, and everything unlocked on both games. My cousins actually owned the game before me and my sister, and they got it from my uncle, who got it when it first came out. I used to get frustrated when I was young because I wasn't nearly as good as them, so I grabbed them in mouth as Yoshi and walk off the edge. I forget how to walk while holding them though. Also, you're a good player, and I'll bet I could rival you with Link

@superdrewster98 OK, on the N64, you need to unlock it. Simply play Versus mode 50 times!

The fastest way to do this is assign damage percentage to 200%, lives to 0, and handicap to 1! Or just walk off the edge!

Winter was a game in development that was searching for a publisher. I was asked along with IGN and a few others to spread word about the game, they needed 20 K sigs to have Sega interseted in the game. I got a hold of the petition, when they had 6,000 sigs. From my fanbase we got the sigs up to 18 K, doesn't matter if people sign now though, the end date was GDC 2 yrs ago.

Why I'm happy SSB (N64) is on the Wii Shop Channel now:

1. I won't have to use the hard to contol N64 contoller!

2. My N64 is old (but works PERFECT,) and can only hook up to "particular" TVs.

3. Thank GOD I wasn't encouraged to use the Homebrew channel for it!

Why I'm ticked off that SSB is now on the Wii Shop Channel:

1. I ordered it for N64 on Amazon(.com), and it took SO long to get here, until it finally did.

i remember that commercial! i hadn't even ever used a computer until gradeschool, the organ trail and stuff and didn't care for computers then becuase what could you really do with a computer in the 90's? no real internet or anything! so we had the game systems, and i didn't actually use a computer till high school, before i even cared! about those machines becuase i had had no real reason to use them before. yeah i miss the before computer use era!

Yeah, the sound effects were all recycled from the other N64 games, but that's what makes it awesome! They still look and sound exactly how you know and love them, so it makes it feel more natural :D

@MRShitHitsTheFan You can't play this with the original wii remote, but I know the classic remote can't play Gamecube Games, but a Gamecube remote can play everything from the virtual console and even the new smash bros brawl plus some other wii games, so I think a good gamecube controller is a good choice if you want something that can play everything.

It is most certainly stupid and makes no intuitive sense that my character cannot grab the ledge backwards! Brawl is the only one in the franchise that has that feature, and honestly it's less intuitive and causes less depth. Not to mention there's no slowdown, that's total BS. Otherwise the review was...decent, you need to get better at audio editing and you forgot about three important buttons for the controls, that being L R and Z.
