Awesome classic blues static image video, thanks to Ugo Fist on FB for this share! Love the old classics. You may want to look up Harry Belafonte's Dark as a Dungeon, if you like this one.
sorry, but digging good blues brought me here. I like whiskey, don't get me wrong, but I already knew of Slim Harpo cheers to those of you who sought ought a song from a commercial cause you dug it though.. done that a few times myself.
I'm drinkin' Jack right now and I never heard of this commercial people are talkin' about. Let's face it - there's a lot of blues/whiskey overlap! Check my channel for some good raw blues, btw...

@billchew450 Really, I didnt know that I know in 70' and 71' they played with alot of the old Bluesys like Albert King etc etc. That's cool thanks for letting me know (Y)
Too bad for this guy suffering a heart attack though.
to be fair, the Stones version is a lot better than some other UK acts cover versions were. This may be Lousiana's most famous blues song, at least partly because of them. But such a shame Harpo couldn't even make a living from music while they were throwing money around.
@TheKeefguitar Slim, the real deal, is obviously better than a 21 year-old white English Jagger's impression of a southern black. The Stones play it a bit too fast, a tendency w/young players -&- white players, (Keith was 20), & Mick just doesn't have the vocal chops. Nonetheless, i'd hardly call it 'commercial'. Sounds to me like they really wanted to do it right, & came about as close as they could, under the circumstances.
@lazur1 It's worth noting, however, that Mick Jagger said, "I don't know why anyone would want to listen to our version when they can go get Slim Harpo's"
bit too early for a good-nighter then, good afternoon to you then, mr gaga, or is it mr bieber? GOOD AFTERNOON eh? better? what what sport is sport you cock is easily tickled and you must have a very demanding lifestlye.
Let the record show: Your post wasn't a "reply", but a "respond to this video". Hoping I wouldn't come back to see it? No matter: You've found a way out of trouble: Gibberish's tough to argue with. On the other hand, if there was any doubt of you being a moron, you've laid that to rest: You are a moron, & the more you post, the more you prove it. (Yes, "afternoon"s good change, still hardly creative. Yes, I have an easy life. Sorry if you don't.)
@lazur1 i can't believe you're STILL replying! hahaha! oh my god 'let the record show' HAHAHAHAHAHA hahaha haha heheh - phew! all that lady gaga's really got to your brain hasn't it! very funny. GOODNIGHT!
@JD I'm the one who -wants- to "talk", remember? -You're- the one who supposedly wants this all to stop. You're dong a poor job of -that- : - ) Glad you mustered up enough nerve to honestly reply this time, though. / I just want to be around to see how deep a hole you dig for yourself. You're doing fine so far, keep digging. Talk to you soon.
@lazur1 what on earth are yu doing, your memory is short and you live in some kind of distorted fantasy land, which is fine by me - please do continue? canny say goodnight can ya chum? mmm
Memory of what? Fantasy of what? Do you deny you posted a reply to me without putting it in the 'reply' section, so I wouldn't get an email? (So I'd think this was over, & you'd get in the last word.) Do you deny you want me to stop posting, but can't stop yourself, the very thing that'll stop me? If you deny this, you're a liar. Lies & Gibberish. Can you make any less sense? I think you can, & I think you will. That's why I'm still here; I'd like to see how low you can go.
@lazur1 only YOU are taking this in the exact same direction to which you claim, inadvertently, to be monitoring it. you seem to be content in doing this - shaping yourself into more and more of a fool for all to see, which is fine by me. goodnight sweet prince xxx
Cool. I admit it: I'm here to watch you make more of an ass of yourself every day. i love it. I want to stay, I want -you- to stay. More than anything, I want to see how many times you can say "goodnight" & still think it's clever. Are -you- here to watch -me- make an ass of -my-self? If "monitoring" an asshole's replies makes me one, too, I'll live with it. You used to claim you wanted me to stop posting. I guess that was a lie, too. Thanks for not answering my questions. I knew you couldn't.
@lazur1 EXCEPT YOU CONTINUE TO BE WRONG it's you and clearly YOU who is the ass. you prove this fact with every post you throw back for the sake of it, with increasingly less to say, evidently grasping at straws, trying to be clever - instead you stand proud as the biggest cock-muncher on youtube. continue if you must, but for now i say GOODNIGHT YOU FOOL.
@JDurden33 Wrong about what? I essentially admitted, quite a few posts ago, that I didn't have anything left to say. i'm just here for you to talk to, & to count the number of times you write "goodnight". A good way of measuring a person's intelligence is by counting how many different ways they can say the same thing. Your score is one.
@lazur1 jokes over. i've been replying to you without even scanning through your replies for days. it's been a wind-up mate, pure sport. and you took the bait every time. my name is troll. you've been trolled. meanwhile life is busy enough and i don't give a fuck. i hope you'll no-doubt enjoy the 'last comment' as i'm pretty sure it's the only kind of satisfaction you get. lots of love JDxxx
Again, posted w/o notice, hoping I don't see it, so you'd get the last word. Troll? No shit, Sherlock. You still put in the time, even if not intelligence. You read my posts, you just didn't understand them. Oh my! What will I do? You're a 'troll'. Whad'ja think I thought you were? A music lover? . Would I call a music lover an asshole? Nope: Just another word for troll. A troll who's been trolled by a better troll. You lose. Again. (No "Goodnight" for me?)
@lazur1 yeah read that ONE since you obviously are going to such effort with all this. but no its YOU - YOU'RE WRONG. AGAIN. YOU FAIL. AGAIN just conceed and fuck off, come on lets see it. of course you will choose to continue talking shit.
You read that 1 too. Same effort as you, moron. "Failed" at what? "See" what? "Wrong"? I said you wouldn't shut up, & you didn't: I'm right. "Concede"? (Only if you spell it right.) Why?, you think my fingers are getting tired? You've outdone yourself: Your earlier gibberish looks intelligent compared to what you're posting now. Mission's succeeding beyond all expectations: You're self-destructing.You lose again. But it's OK: You like to lose. You're good at losing. Because you lose so often.
@JDurden33 Lengthy, but not time consuming: Type fast / think fast, 10 seconds, in & out. Congrats on having some friends. It's Labor Day (3-day weekend) here, so this post's a break between all the BBQs. What's 'just art'?
@lazur1 no man, really, i've hung out with a few friends, been painting, did a 3 camera shoot of a dance-demo in a town several miles west, it's been a blast. how was your weekend?
@JDurden33 Traveling from BBQ to BBQ , Sat Sun Mon. Perfect venues for some Slim Harpo, but no such luck. Maybe next year I'll pack a sound system w/a stack of swamp-blues cds, & trade dj services for ribs, beer & ....
@lazur1 mmm easy on the ribs, shoud just get one of those portable record players, or a set of mini speakers for your ipod, just rack it out! i for one have ripped all the harpo off youtube i can find using the free software at squared5dotcom, excellent because 9 out of ten are original vynil uploads!
@JDurden33 I've got a Numark ipod mixer. (The older models are virtually free now that bullshit dj effects come with new ones .) I'll just run it through a guitar amp today: Probably what Slim sang through at most gigs anyway.
@JDurden33 Of course I'll include a big dose of the great Chicago blues artists :-) : Jimmy Reed & Little Walter being -the- major influences on Slim. Time to go.
@lazur1 only YOU are taking this in the exact same direction to which you claim, inadvertently, to be monitoring it. you seem to be content in doing this - shaping yourself into more and more of a fool for all to see, which is fine by me. goodnight sweet prince xxx
strange. this guy was never even a full time musician, ran a trucking business till he died of a heart aged 46. the rolling stones owe their success to slim and all the other black bluesmen they ripped off. boom.
The Stones never ripped any of these cats off. In fact they made sure that these artists got whatever royalties they had coming. Led Zeppelin and the Beach Boys were the thieves in the night, ripping off both Willie Dixon and Chuck Berry.
@SmokindaBlues well he obviously didn't do too well out of it, dieing in his late 40's with debts, running a trucking company. bollocks - the stones raped him for main street. white rockers raped the black musicians to help create the legends of the previous mid-late century.
As far as "King Bee" 's concerned, Slim did well: It's his 1st hit, he hadn't signed away any writer's credit yet, & the Stones gave him proper credit: He received 100% words & music, about 1/2 of the publishing. BUT: Even then, the Stones had clout, & a small company's glad to get any new $ on a tune they thought had run its course: "Let us use your tune for 1/2 standard publishing rate. You'll still make more than you ever dreamed. Otherwise we'll use another tune." Not all that bad a deal.
Recording songs isn't stealing. Credit's given, royalties were paid. Many artists were ripped off by their publishers, managers, agents, & producers. Think original artists should get more?: Buy their records. If as many people had bought Slim's "King Bee" as bought the 1st Stones LP, he'd've been a rich man. As it is, he wrote 1 tune of 12, & his publisher gave the Stones at least a 50% deal, so Slim made 1/24th what he would on equal sales of his own records. And -that- was a lot of $!
@lazur1 the facts still stand. white man steals black mans music. the blacks invented rock n roll. the originators were never recognized for their genesis or contribution. the white bands surfed the discoveries of others and exploited them. the stones would be nothing without slim.
When black musicians use European chords, are they "stealing from whites"? NO. He who pays didn't steal. He who loves a riff, sound, style, technique, absorbs it. The only way to stop 'stealing' : Forbid whites & blacks to hear each other's music. It's been tried. The Stones'd never form w/o black music. So what? But they'd do fine w/ Chuck, Muddy,. Elmore, Wolf, Jimmy, Bo, Solomon, Otis, & Sam. Slim's great, but they'd've done fine w/o him, & he'd've done considerably worse w/o them.
@lazur1 everything i said still stand you haven't proved otherwise and slimp harpo was under-paid and deserves about 99.999% of the stones qudos. all said and done. thank you and goodnight.
Of course, in hindsight, underpaid, but not cheated. Fate easily goes another way, Stones never make a dime, everyone gets nothing: Is that better? Slim deserves 99.999% of Stones' "qudos"? Muddy, Wolf, Elmore, Robert Johnson Jimmy Reed(the main influence on Slim), Chuck, Bo, Otis, Solomon Burke, Sam Cooke, & all other great black artists who influenced the Stones "deserve" to split the remaining 1/10,000th of a % (=1millionth), of "qudos"? And I'm supposed to "prove" otherwise? Please.
what a groove.

Love old school blues. Muddy did a great cover of this, Muddified it, and The Rolling Stones did a great cover as well.

Sorry if you don't.)
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 i can't believe you're STILL replying! hahaha! oh my god 'let the record show' HAHAHAHAHAHA hahaha haha heheh - phew! all that lady gaga's really got to your brain hasn't it! very funny. GOODNIGHT!
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JD I'm the one who -wants- to "talk", remember? -You're- the one who supposedly wants this all to stop. You're dong a poor job of -that- : - ) Glad you mustered up enough nerve to honestly reply this time, though. / I just want to be around to see how deep a hole you dig for yourself. You're doing fine so far, keep digging. Talk to you soon.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 what on earth are yu doing, your memory is short and you live in some kind of distorted fantasy land, which is fine by me - please do continue? canny say goodnight can ya chum? mmm
JDurden33 1 year ago
Memory of what? Fantasy of what? Do you deny you posted a reply to me without putting it in the 'reply' section, so I wouldn't get an email? (So I'd think this was over, & you'd get in the last word.) Do you deny you want me to stop posting, but can't stop yourself, the very thing that'll stop me? If you deny this, you're a liar. Lies & Gibberish. Can you make any less sense? I think you can, & I think you will. That's why I'm still here; I'd like to see how low you can go.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 only YOU are taking this in the exact same direction to which you claim, inadvertently, to be monitoring it. you seem to be content in doing this - shaping yourself into more and more of a fool for all to see, which is fine by me. goodnight sweet prince xxx
JDurden33 1 year ago
I knew you couldn't.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 EXCEPT YOU CONTINUE TO BE WRONG it's you and clearly YOU who is the ass. you prove this fact with every post you throw back for the sake of it, with increasingly less to say, evidently grasping at straws, trying to be clever - instead you stand proud as the biggest cock-muncher on youtube. continue if you must, but for now i say GOODNIGHT YOU FOOL.
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 Wrong about what? I essentially admitted, quite a few posts ago, that I didn't have anything left to say. i'm just here for you to talk to, & to count the number of times you write "goodnight". A good way of measuring a person's intelligence is by counting how many different ways they can say the same thing. Your score is one.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 jokes over. i've been replying to you without even scanning through your replies for days. it's been a wind-up mate, pure sport. and you took the bait every time. my name is troll. you've been trolled. meanwhile life is busy enough and i don't give a fuck. i hope you'll no-doubt enjoy the 'last comment' as i'm pretty sure it's the only kind of satisfaction you get. lots of love JDxxx
JDurden33 1 year ago
Again, posted w/o notice, hoping I don't see it, so you'd get the last word. Troll? No shit, Sherlock. You still put in the time, even if not intelligence. You read my posts, you just didn't understand them. Oh my! What will I do? You're a 'troll'. Whad'ja think I thought you were? A music lover? . Would I call a music lover an asshole? Nope: Just another word for troll. A troll who's been trolled by a better troll. You lose. Again. (No "Goodnight" for me?)
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 with out notice what? the last word is all yours you fucking fool - go on . . . take the stand, live the dream!
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 Hmmm....looks like you -did- read my post. You're wrong, again: The last word is -not- mine, because you will -not- shut up.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 yeah read that ONE since you obviously are going to such effort with all this. but no its YOU - YOU'RE WRONG. AGAIN. YOU FAIL. AGAIN just conceed and fuck off, come on lets see it. of course you will choose to continue talking shit.
JDurden33 1 year ago
You read that 1 too. Same effort as you, moron. "Failed" at what? "See" what? "Wrong"? I said you wouldn't shut up, & you didn't: I'm right. "Concede"? (Only if you spell it right.) Why?, you think my fingers are getting tired? You've outdone yourself: Your earlier gibberish looks intelligent compared to what you're posting now. Mission's succeeding beyond all expectations: You're self-destructing.You lose again. But it's OK: You like to lose. You're good at losing. Because you lose so often.

@lazur1 hi how was your day? your replies sue are lengthy! just art, hung out with a few friends, sunny day here, good times x
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 Lengthy, but not time consuming: Type fast / think fast, 10 seconds, in & out. Congrats on having some friends. It's Labor Day (3-day weekend) here, so this post's a break between all the BBQs. What's 'just art'?
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 no man, really, i've hung out with a few friends, been painting, did a 3 camera shoot of a dance-demo in a town several miles west, it's been a blast. how was your weekend?
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 Traveling from BBQ to BBQ , Sat Sun Mon. Perfect venues for some Slim Harpo, but no such luck. Maybe next year I'll pack a sound system w/a stack of swamp-blues cds, & trade dj services for ribs, beer & ....
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 mmm easy on the ribs, shoud just get one of those portable record players, or a set of mini speakers for your ipod, just rack it out! i for one have ripped all the harpo off youtube i can find using the free software at squared5dotcom, excellent because 9 out of ten are original vynil uploads!
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 I've got a Numark ipod mixer. (The older models are virtually free now that bullshit dj effects come with new ones .) I'll just run it through a guitar amp today: Probably what Slim sang through at most gigs anyway.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 that sounds like one hell of a set-up for maximum slimming
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33 Of course I'll include a big dose of the great Chicago blues artists :-) : Jimmy Reed & Little Walter being -the- major influences on Slim. Time to go.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 time to go is right - got a Robert Johnson vinyl retrospective to play-out. not into mp3s much myself. anyhow, good luck with it.

this beats pop music

No matter who remakes it, you can't beat the original.
philtittola 1 year ago
strange. this guy was never even a full time musician, ran a trucking business till he died of a heart aged 46. the rolling stones owe their success to slim and all the other black bluesmen they ripped off. boom.
JDurden33 1 year ago
@JDurden33
The Stones never ripped any of these cats off. In fact they made sure that these artists got whatever royalties they had coming. Led Zeppelin and the Beach Boys were the thieves in the night, ripping off both Willie Dixon and Chuck Berry.
SmokindaBlues 1 year ago 3
@SmokindaBlues well he obviously didn't do too well out of it, dieing in his late 40's with debts, running a trucking company. bollocks - the stones raped him for main street. white rockers raped the black musicians to help create the legends of the previous mid-late century.
JDurden33 1 year ago
As far as "King Bee" 's concerned, Slim did well: It's his 1st hit, he hadn't signed away any writer's credit yet, & the Stones gave him proper credit: He received 100% words & music, about 1/2 of the publishing. BUT: Even then, the Stones had clout, & a small company's glad to get any new $ on a tune they thought had run its course: "Let us use your tune for 1/2 standard publishing rate. You'll still make more than you ever dreamed. Otherwise we'll use another tune." Not all that bad a deal.
lazur1 1 year ago
Recording songs isn't stealing. Credit's given, royalties were paid. Many artists were ripped off by their publishers, managers, agents, & producers. Think original artists should get more?: Buy their records. If as many people had bought Slim's "King Bee" as bought the 1st Stones LP, he'd've been a rich man. As it is, he wrote 1 tune of 12, & his publisher gave the Stones at least a 50% deal, so Slim made 1/24th what he would on equal sales of his own records. And -that- was a lot of $!
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 the facts still stand. white man steals black mans music. the blacks invented rock n roll. the originators were never recognized for their genesis or contribution. the white bands surfed the discoveries of others and exploited them. the stones would be nothing without slim.
JDurden33 1 year ago
When black musicians use European chords, are they "stealing from whites"? NO. He who pays didn't steal. He who loves a riff, sound, style, technique, absorbs it. The only way to stop 'stealing' : Forbid whites & blacks to hear each other's music. It's been tried. The Stones'd never form w/o black music. So what? But they'd do fine w/ Chuck, Muddy,. Elmore, Wolf, Jimmy, Bo, Solomon, Otis, & Sam. Slim's great, but they'd've done fine w/o him, & he'd've done considerably worse w/o them.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 everything i said still stand you haven't proved otherwise and slimp harpo was under-paid and deserves about 99.999% of the stones qudos. all said and done. thank you and goodnight.
JDurden33 1 year ago
Please.
