I miss those cold winter days when I used to fake beeing sick and miss school to stay home and play this game...those days I used to think: the game is awesome wish the graphics were too, with games nowdays I think: the graphics are awesome wish the game was too.
@GregCrack Yeah doesn't work too well with ATi cards either. I managed to get the right compatibility settings so the colours were fine on the menu and it launched okay, but when I actually started a mission the colours would get all weird again, affecting the menus as well.
I am the world famous OMEGAREDXS, nemesis of the REDKNIGHTS,, I remember this game way back, I used to beat the shit out of this team, wayback when JANES was online
@ingwersengrady agreed, I remade the entire vietnam war mission at night, with AAA all over the place, and a squad of bombers to hit a target, it looked amazing. It sucks how htey dont make games like this anymore
hey guys i cant seem to toggle my view to see my cockpit, which pisses me off. and it also seems like my instrument orientation is different. could someone help?
@Golfinnder With patches, USNF 97 and ATF (windows version) also runs on XP. Without (official patches, anyway) patches, they crash to desktop when the flight starts. Even in windows 98, by the way.
For USNF'97 and USNFGOLD (or any older DOS) game - use DOSBox 0.73 (shareware) to run it in a shell. I still play USNFGOLD this way with NO mods or patches. I tried lot of other ways until coming across DOSBox. Takes a time or two to understand how to mount the drives. i.e., if your game is in drive E:\ and cd/dvdrom is F:\ . You type "mount c: e:\" for game and "mount d: f:\ -t cdrom". Then change from native z: by typing "c:", then "cd" to game DIR, then "USNF" for .exe. Have Fun!
install patch 1.02 search for it no slow down program should be needed for windows xp, if you vista i dunno.....
in XP just select compatibility for windows 95, after the patch is installed it runs proper speed (silky smooth even better then back in the day for me)
there is an issue with choppy mouse in menus but its never more then a slight annoyance.
the game is terrific and was very pleased to have it running properly in xp... amazing the best advice given was to download a slow down prog.
i installed this on my comp after not playing it for 10 years . the games runs twice as fast for some reason. its like my computer cant slow its self down to the game
Yeah dude I tltally love and miss USNF music!!!! The intro music was so tight, I still remember it in my head, I wish there was some way to get it.....
I noticed there is a new game called "J.A.S.F. Janes Advanced Strike Fighters"
Is that any good? I've heard bad things about it.

USARMz 10 months ago 2
@USARMz , sorry no, it works not really good on win7, I have a Dual-Boot system with WinXP and Win7, this is a good choice for gamers!
GregCrack 10 months ago
@GregCrack
how about if you use compatability mode on windows 7? will it run then?
USARMz 10 months ago
@USARMz , no chance, you'll receive graphic errors.
But I have a Nvidia 8800 GT, maybe with radeon cards it will work, try it out!

@GregCrack Turn off explorer, then run the executable. It'll work. I'm doing it right now.
Wellwellwellwell1 4 months ago
@USARMz Yeah it works in compatability mode It's just got a lot of color errors
BrotherToTheFox 1 month ago
@USARMz It works on win7, just create a bat file with the following lines:
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
cd C:\JANES\Fighters Anthology
FA.EXE
pause
start explorer.exe
exit
Of course, click the bat file instead of the exe to run FA.

for some reason i can never get a cockpit to show up. It's always just the hud, but no cock pit.

@Hamster307
You have to reduce the resolution to 800x600, then you can see the cockpit !

With regards to the intro music to USNF, the composer is George Alistair Sanger, "Fat Man"
You can find a sample of the song on his website in the "Listening Lounge" under the title "Orch Demo 15."
