Looks like there wasn't enough of the cure in the water for it to be permanent. Maria was solid in the lake and then went back to her water form at the end, only to become solid after that "final dose". So... the cure that was used in the lake wasn't permanent.

@TheNeobone Actually, they stated near the beginning that it wasn't a cure for everyone, but she had a good genetic structure to start with. And, besides, since her body was, essentially, made of water, the cure went directly into her body - Static and Gear were just touching it.

@TheNeobone Well no, for two reasons. 1. The cure has to make it inside the subject's body. Maria is all water, so it is easy to get the cure into her. Second reason was, they said the cure wouldn't work on all bang babies. This version was probably specifically for Aquamaria, so it most likely wouldn't work on those two even if enough made it into their bodies.

1) The antidote was probably specific to AquaMarie's condition and

2) Since her DNA was combined with the water, the chemical reaction between that and the antidote would be much easier, than a chemical reaction between the antidote and Gears and Static's skin would not take nearly as easily.
