Ah, yes. I'd forgotten about this one.

I think one of the main reasons that both dovetail so nicely with one another is that Evangelion and Bohemian Rhapsody are such archetypes. Nothing even remotely like either one of them had ever been done before. Not to mention the fact that the sheer fatalism and desparation of the song's lyrics runs directly parallel with the main theme of the show.

Thanks to this video I don't think I'll be able to disassociate one from the other ever again.

But what live version? I've looked now and then for the past 7 years trying to find it since i first saw the amv, but none of them matched the energy of this one. not even close. i would trip an elderly lady, even spit on her, to get this recording

and, fyi, queen frequently mixed the studio acapella and other segments into their live performances. so who knows if the whole thing wasn't live???

It's an odd choice, certainly; and I wouldn't think a traditional AMV with these two would work. I don't think this one's really telling a story, though; I think it's using the Evangelion clips to provide spectacle in accompaniment to the music, and occasionally dishing up an emotional hit from what we know of the series - more like a traditional music video than the standard AMV. Normally that would be hit-or-miss, but in this case, I think it works tremendously well.
