  • hello, because the video quality is not very good, so I wanna ask you, how to show the window up at 0:18?( i mean... hmm such as, Polygons/ Create UVs options) You understand what I meant? sorry for my poor english

  • @charissakuo ohh I already find it.. it's Dynamics/ Hair..

  • how do i apply hair to only the faces that i've selected?

  • @dragonblood99 it treats the mesh as a a wholes object so you can either separate the faces with the hair on as a separate polygon object, or use the pain hair tool :)

  • thanx

  • great explination but how do you put the hair in only a certain area?

  • @georgeannaclarkpro the best way to do that is either use the pain hair tool where it places hairs where you use the brush, or duplicate the faces of that area and apply hairs to it, so e.g. if you wanted a patch of hair on his head, duplicate the faces from that area, apply the hair to it, then have that piece have the same paint weight values to your rig so it follows along with the part it was duplicated from, then just hide that duplicated mesh :)

  • Hey..nice...for more hair tutorials visit this channel: imdvirus

  • this is so hard :(

  • Thank you. Your tutorial is very well communicated and clear - thanks for your time :)

  • does anyone know of a fairly effective program that can put an image format onto youtube without it looking grainy or shot with a cell phone camera?

camera.I have clip samples on my page to show

  • Noob Question. How to you get the hair to be hanging at frame one instead of being spiked up?

  • what if you want to do spiky hair what is would i need to play with for that effect? ill try on my own but if i can fugure it out hopefully i can get an answer here thanks great tut

  • @ewigkase1 to get spiky hair you have to make the hair quite still and set the rest curve in a spiky position, this way gravity has less effect and the hair try's to rest in the spiky position, however most spiky hair is more ridged so it might help to use something like maya fur or the plugin shave and hair cut also this will be easier as maya hair take up a lot of cpu.

  • @youmayatutorials thanks

  • @ewigkase1 For spikey hair you could try paint effect> get brush> hair> wet hair.

  • hey wat r u doin to let da hair fall free??

  • @amrutamali on the hair shelf there is a green arrow button called interactive playback, this plays the time line with the ability to move objects and have the hair react in real time, a good tip is to increase the time line so you have a ton of frames for the playback to go through.

  • @youmayatutorials

    heyy...thnx!

  • this vs photoshop?

  • @happygamestvfun1 Photoshop can be good if you have a few polygon planes with a hair texture on it including the alpha channel, but Maya's hair is for more realistic dynamic hair. If you use a texture i will be hard to animate as you will have to make a rig for it (thats if you want it to move), but for still renders id recommend using textures or the shave plug-in as theres no point in spending ages setting up dynamic hair that you're not going to animate :D

  • nice.liked it.

but the sound after your mouse click is really annoying!!!

  • Quick question:

What are you using? Polygons, Subdivisions, or Nurbs?

I'm just curious to know what the paint hair tool and such works on. =)

  • hi, i think it was a NURB but in Maya hair can be used on polygons as well, whre the hair is placed depends on the amount of vertexes and i think how its UV are set up

  • Ah thank you, I'm still playing around with Maya and I haven't gotten to dynamics such as hair. Thanks again =)

  • how would you animate paint effect plants growing?

  • He used a NURBS sphere here, but you can use poly's as well.

  • What spec is your PC. It seems very fast compared to mine.

  • lol! you made the hair so thick... XDD

anyway... thank you so much for this tutorial... ^^

    really helped me a lot...

  • it makes me digitaly want to comb hair all day long:p

i could be a digital hairstylist.

  • Great hair tutorial!! Thanks for explaining it all. Love!

  • I tried the hair paint thing and I just dident work for me, dunno why.

So I did like this ( perhaps not the best way :)

I dublicated the object and the just deleted every face that was not gonna have hair . hehe

  • @SwampDragons

Did you lay out the uvs~? owo

  • hey can you make a tutorial about how you can place hair's on cretin parts of the polygons cuz i made a human face and i have no idea how to place the hair on the head without putting it on the hole face not trying to make a chewbacca you know haha nice vid tho 5 star's plz help!!!!

  • hi, thanks for the comment, ill be making some more vids soon, but try using the paint hair tool, this allows you to interactivly paint on youre model where you want the hair to be.

  • Thanks! I found this to be really useful!

  • no probs, im glad you found it usefull, there are going to be some more on the way soon :P

  • Yeah, nice hair tut. Helpful stuff.

Head over to my youtube account or website for the start of an entire series of 60+ vids covering Maya from interface to advanced topics if you like. :)

  • Great hair tutorial! Thanks.

  • the "play button" is on the time slider at the bottom but when you play youre unable to move the hair, so if u want to play and move what the hair is conected to you can click "active playback" which is found in the maya hair meny or shelf as a green play arrow, when u click this the animation will play and you can move the object the hair is on and maya will update to mave the hair with the object

  • Alright thanks mate!

  • hi, ye, to make em look like davy jone's tentacles you can loft a surface aroung a hair, or (this is how i think they did it in the film) you can make his face and tentacles as a poligon then use an skelenton from maya animation tools then you can set the joints to be controled by a hair, so the joints will move like the hair and will be binded to the poligon of davi jone's face, to animate hair you can use hair constraints and move the constraints, or if you use the skeliton method u coud IK it

  • Is it possible to make the Hair look like on Davy Jone's Face those things idk their name, and can you animate them to move on 8.5?

  • also if you use hair to animate things like tentacles, each tentacles has its own hair and it may help to have a new hair system for each tentacles.
