$450 bucks to replace a hard drive? hahahah take me less than a minute to replace a hard drive and about 45 min. to replace the operating system depending on the speed of the PC. i charge 40$.

I also worked at the geek squad for a while and as a competent tech working at geek squad the "approved tools" list of software is beyond piss poor. The only good software we used was pc-check. Every thing else was webroot shitware.

I hate Geeksquad i had to pay $150 plus tax for them to fix my power supply cause it was shortin after every little while. Its sad because it took them 8 days to actually look at it and run diagnostic... then took 5days to ship and then it took 18days all together to get it fixed. where a mom and pop computer shop wldve took a day or 2 and wldve been so much cheaper. I hate geeksquad. The ONLY time i actually liked geeksquad was when my laptop drive broke and it was 250gb. They replaced it for free under warranty and replaced it with a 500gb at no cost. BUT the most recent and the last was when i got my grandfather an imac. After TWO days they FINALLY put damn iword on there. Never will i go to bestbuy again.

I hate it when other ignorant people talk about a brand and hold everyone accountable there are plenty of idiots in GeekSquad but there are many people that know what they are doing there also, Pricing is no longer an issue TECH SUPPORT By Geeksquad is super cheap 1 year coverage for software issues one full year $2xx, some stores are better then others just watch out for the people in certain stores

Here's my problem as a tech...

I don't mind taking the time to really figure something out, however, my employers (and the customers) choose a quick turn around time instead of actually fixing the problem. In fact, I get harassed more by customers complaining about not having their computer and it taking too long to be fixed. I spend more of my time on the phone arguing with ppl trying to explain to them why it's taking so long rather than actually fixing the computers.

There are alot of complete morons in this world... The geeksquad here hires kids right out of highschool with only a working knowledge of PCs hardware and software. A friend of mine got hired and he still comes to me whenever he has a PC problem. Its pretty sad that he is a "Geek Agent" and comes to me for help with his PC. Anyway, I agree, its pathetic.

My friend's laptop broke. he took it to geek squad. they wanted to clear the hd and reinstall windows. I fixed it in less than an hour and kept every file."

Geek Squad is where I ended up for right now, I'll admit that some of them know jack shit, but 75% of them are really awesome guys, and they are smart as fuck.

75%? That's a very high number. I'd say 25%. The rest suck. I worked at Geek Squad for 2 years, then moved up to IT For the Government. This guy is right on though about reformatting.

The problem is that they aren't paid enough to give a shit, and the hiring sucks. They think if someone is nerdy looking or has an A+ cert...it means they know what they are doing. They don't. btw Geek Squad pays like 10 bucks and hr.

p.s. - Best Buy is a RETAIL STORE. They are ALL ABOUT PROFITS. Hence the ridiculous prices of Geek Squad services, and their fascist disclaimer you sign off on. I was a "good" tech while at geek squad, and got SHIT on by management. "Your #'s are not up, bring up your sales of services". Cost to time, reformatting brings in more profit. Taking your time to troubleshoot a machine is wasteful in terms of profits...and Best Buy wants profits.
