Fear and loathing was Hunter.s.Thompsons alter ego of what his view of las vegas was while high off his fucking head off acid this was based on real life.
damn bill murray seems to be doing an outstanding job. Johnny depp appeared to be doing a cartoon version of thompson, bill murry seems more like the real man.
@ecclesiasticous That's because Johnny Depp is playing his alter ego, Raoul Duke, where as Bill Murray is actually playing Hunter S Thompson. In a way, Depp is playing the cartoon version of him, although it's really more like an exaggerated literary representation of him, created by Thompson himself.
When you said the "first time," it didn't really make sense as an insult, because it was his second movie.
Between "Stripes" and "Ghostbusters," he did "Tootsie" -- an interesting move.
Plus, after Peter Venkman, he did "The Razors Edge," unlike anything he had done before. Then he retired to France, because he didn't want to be stereotyped as the Bill Murray character.
"Groundhog Day" (1993) respresented a career transition for him, and he has had a whole new career since then.
Man Peter Boyle was one funny motherfucker!!

Murray and Depp were quite good they both had to follow thompson around to get the part perfectly and 1 thing Johnny got was Hunters Jacket

@ecclesiasticous Well yeah, that's cause Johnny Depp was portraying Duke, not Thompson.
