@eqler Never too old to go back and go higher! You never know how far you can go unless you try. I am back at it after major back surgery stopping me from training for 15 years. Currently 9th kyu, but I grade next Sunday. I could end up anywhere from 7th Kyu to 3rd Kyu and will keep training as long as my body lets me.
Hey guys.I train i n shotokan karate for one year now.Well evrybody says my body fits perfect for karate but in a bad luck im just a yellow belt.Everyone in my dojo is better than me i mean their all blue belts , black etc... so noone i can compare myself to... :/ , whateverr...il do my best in training... wish i will better than them someday...
@reybatistafan If you train hard, you will get there. Don't judge yourself by the technique the senior belts have. As long as you accept the lessons and do your best you WILL get better over time. I have bad news though, if you are training to be better than your instructors and senior belts, you are training for the wrong reasons! Train to make YOURSELF better and you will go far. Ossu!
@RainBirdLori I know and that's what i'm doing.I mean training hard for MY SELF to become better. And that's true cause every training i feel my skills getting better. And no im not training to be better than my sensei or other students.Just sometimes feels bad that your friends got more experience or a hightest rank belt than ya.I think life is like a cycle. It turns around and all that training your doing turns to good to you after years.Still young, got lots of trainings to do ^^
@reybatistafan Good for you! Just keep in mind that the belt isn't an indication of what you have learned INSIDE (many senior belts still behave like white belts). Conduct yourself like a black belt (seriously follow the Dojo Kun) and you have already learned something BIG. Japanese culture is heavy on the humility, stay humble and you'll get far. =) Ossu.
The moral of the story is this: someone who understands the Shotokan mindset will be calm and respond to nearly everything by punching the other guy in the face
@MrNahuel1306 Shotokan es solamente un estilo de Karate-Do. Karate presenta de muchas formas. Shotokan es un estilo que se originó en Okinawa y es probablemente uno de los más simplificado y sencillos.
This is karate-do and a Japanese concept, it is not karate. Karate-do is a pseudonym and one result of the Meiji Restoration of 1868 that banned all Japanese martial arts. Kendo was once a magnificent sword art, now a stick fighting, tournament activity of limited techniques and targets. The JKA did the same thing to karate. Budo is a collection of gutted, former martial arts that, by law, no longer consider serious technique applications and tactics.
There are many histories bout Funakoshi, but while he wasn't a physically gifted man he definitely imposed respect among his peers and students (which included Ohtsuka and Oyama, btw) even if some of them disagreed with his teachings. Maybe he wasn't an exceptional fighter but he surely was an exceptional teacher. In any case, there were many of his students that continued to make changes to his original teachings (just like he did from what he learned from his own teachers) so...
@bellotti8101 You mean black belt in BJJ Machida and the man that tottaly change shotokan into as he said MACHIDA KARATE and NOT shotokan karate? The man that use hook punches and takedowns that shotokan doesnt have???faggot!
@bellotti8101 As he said MACHIDA KARATE!NOT GAY SHOTOKAN.Thats why he is the best.with only gay shotokan not the best,he wuold be the worst.thats why drop gay shotokan!his words not mine!faggot!
@acerwk Shotokan doesn't have the hook punch? yes, it does and it is called "kagi-zuki"...it also has elbow strikes, uppercuts, back-fist and many other punches that most serious shotokan and karate schools practice in regular training...and no, it doesn't have wrestling takedowns, we use sweeps and trips in combination with punches and kicks (Machida uses them a lot, and yes, those are shotokan techniques)...next time at least make an effort to hide your ignorance and stupidity.
@deadguy29 official gay shotokan doesnt have drills using hook punches, low kicks with the shin, takedowns or drills against thos ekind of attack.only shit ipon/gohon kumite, defenses against oi-tsuki.gyaku tsuki, mae geri.!shotokan is shit.period
@acerwk official gay shotokan???? what the hell is that? There are dozens of "official" shotokan orgs and they differ vastly in their approach. You don't really have a clue, do you? I don't know what kind of shotokan training you have seen or practiced but you don't know anything about serious shotokan training...you can go training with two(good) different shotokan instructors and most likely the drills and class focus will be entirely different...you are just talking out of your ass
@deadguy29 all the officials orgs (jka(tanaka/yahara groups),skif, kase ha, etc etc)dont have drills with or against low kicks with the shin hook punches takedowns.only ippon gohon kumite thata sucks!you like it or not thats the truth!thats why teach and thats what they do in exams.thts the official line of shotokan.all the rest are taken from other styles and not recognized as shotokan.
@acerwk so just because you say so it's has to be true and everybody in this forum has to believe you?? hahahaha man, seriously, go training with some serious shotokan instructor and quit talking shit...just because you read the syllabus or seen a couple of videos in YouTube you actually believe you know shit about shotokan hahaha Dojo training is not competition, and it's not the syllabus for green belt testing...you forgot to mention headbutts, knees, elbows and I can assure you that...2
@acerwk 2...you'll find plenty of those in any serious, hard training shotokan school...since you are a brave internet, keyboard warrior I'm sure you'll be fine hahahaha
@acerwk why is not shotokan? please enlighten me and others in this forum...as any other martial art karate is not a rigid, unmovable object absent of changes and evolution. I read that you practice BJJ, would you consider it a complete, be-all-end-all martial art? of course not, but it definitely has many good things that can be used against an attacker...Shotokan is not perfect, but it also has so many good, useful techniques that are not limited to tournaments and exhibitions....
@deadguy29 because funakoshi, nakayama nishiyama, kanazawa etc they didnt teach them.they present a martial art(shotokan)with syllabus/material that not include any of those techniques.so if you add them its good for you but its not shotokan.an hybrid ok but dont call it shotokan.
@acerwk it would be incorrect to say that funakoshi, nakayama, nishiyama, kanazawa taught the same type of shotokan. Hell, Funakoshi didn't teach the round kick or the spinning back kick, some one else brought them into shotokan and now is part of it. There 's no such thing as "pure shotokan", some traditionalists might call it simply karate and forget about brands...
@deadguy29 Thats true.funakoshi teach a different type of karate.his son jiko, nakayama etc make it this un practical sport.but dont forget that funakoshi wasnt a good fighter either.his lost from a regular student of his rival motobu inside his dojo in front of all his student!then his student ohtsuka the founder of wado ryu and jujitsu master step in and save him using jujitsu techniques.
@deadguy29 you're referring to Gigo Funakoshi the third son of Gichin. He developed higher kicks including mawashi geri (round kick), yoko geri kekomi (thrusting side kick), yoko geri keage (snap side kick), fumikiri (cutting side kick directed to soft targets), ura mawashi geri (quarter rotation front-round kick—though some credit Kase-sensei with the creation of this technique), ushiro ura mawashi geri (360 degrees turning round kick) and ushiro geri kekomi (thrusting back kick).
i take shotokan karate, and they say its the lazy man's technique. however, i dont see how this is any less interesting then the stuff on movies. maybe even more interesting. on screen everyone knows its just flashy movements. however with s. karate it seems more...powerful. well with any type of fighting style really if its meant to actually be used for fighting, not just performance.

Amazing.... Love it. I feel like MUST TO BACK to the DOJO.
Wow, that's bring all my memories. 6 years with Sensei Rudolf Simenak and Sensei Leszek Stachewicz- 3-rd in European Championship in Kata Shotokan.
And I'm still only 4-th Kyu... And too old to go higher ;)
Thanks for the video. All the best :)
