  • What's the name of the Autechre track?

  • Ok, I'm posting again (under instruction) so this time I'll answer Matt's question from tuesday night, to whit, 'what's the difference between art and design'?

We design more in expectation than hope.

We create art more in hope than expectation.

    And that.

  • Art is anything (any creation or performance) that reflects the personality of its creator.

Design does not necessarily reflect personality, but may exist only to reach a desired function or effect.

  • I'm sorry mr cholmondley-warner but you're quite wrong.

  • @greatwareagle Design still reflects personality as different designers may have a different approach even when the desired result is the same. To me, a useful way of defining art and design would place design as a subsection of art in which constraints are added - the properties of a desired function - in order to guide the creative process in a very specific direction, toward a practical result.

  • Superb work!
