@icecoldbruh These two versions brings back memories for me. I was born in 1990 & I remember throughout the 90s I would sit in the car with my mom listening to her mixtapes on cassette, She had Aaliyah -Never Givin Up, Keith Sweat - Just A Touch, Gap Band - Wednesday Lover & Jagged Egde Version of Wednesday Lover. She swears by all means she doesnt remember & never heard Charie Wilsons version of this. It's been so long ago.
No doubt about it. The Gap Band. And let's be honest, JE are some pretty humble guys and i'm sure they would agree with me! "Everybody... Everybody help me sing..." Man it gets no better.
Even though Charlie Wilson is one of my all time favorite singers, Jagged Edge was on point when they did this remake. This is a jam you can kick back and smoke that good shiznit while you're chillin' with ya lady.
Im 38yrs old and this was my jam in highschool i listen to this song and picture drivin in my camaro bumpin this song wind blowin through my hair and feelin so free this music now just cant make me fall in love like this old school can charlie where are you now?
"She makes my life complete" and "More than I ever would need" tell me these are some of the realest lyrics I have ever heard.Charlie and the GAP band put it down...
look.. charlie wilson is a one of a kind singer... the last of a dying breed.. no artist today sings real songs.. the music is complete trash.... music is supposed to be about singing songs and playing instruments.. wtf happened to music..
Charlie Wilson is one of the best. Jagged Edge just could'nt do like The Gap Band, and thats were some other artist get their style from. We just don't have music like this anymore. So I treasure all of my collections.
The Gap Band wins hands down. Good attempt by Jagged Edge, but none of them is touching Charlie Wilson. Plus the original has a better feel to it than the remake and to ol' dude that said "Jagged Edge would put The Gap Band out of business", You straight FOOLIN'!
you know . chris9273 has a valid point , most remakes i hear today i feel are just imitations and lacks that emotion of the song , songs like Beyonce's at last , im wishing on a star , just to name a few. Jagged edge did a good job though. You know Charlies got that voice you can't really duplicate.
Wow, I never knew JE remade this, but I think their mix is clearer and better than GAP'S. Yet the original song has to be better version, because it was GAP's idea. It's easier to take something written a long time ago and spend hours trying to make it more technically perfect on modern equipment, including drum machines! I do like JE's harmony mix, it's more full, but you can't imitate Charlie [or Stevie Wonder] without souding like Charlie [or Stevie Wonder]! Over all, I got to give it to GAP!
I dont have to hear both versions to know nobody can sing like Charlie Wilson & his brothers. And nobody can still out sing Charlie Wilson. He's getting better with age. I got my ass beat but i told my cousin Donald "Devante" from a 90's group called Jodeci Charlie sing better. He thinks Cedric "K Ci & Jojo are the best. Nah, Charlie for life homie lol
I just LOVE this song!!! I am partial to the Jagged Edge version, probably because i didn't know for quite a while that it was a remake of the Gap Band. Jagged Edge has a beautiful, soulful sound they don't get the credit they deserve!!
We where comparing slow jams at work and I pulled this ditty out of the trick bag, and everyone said "You Win" and we began to sang this classic! It kinda sounded good, but no one does it like Charlie and the Gappers! Peace to all those that know, and all those just finding out, what took you so darn long!LOL!
I will always and forever love The Gap Band's version. I love the finger snaps in the beginning, I love Charlie Wilson's voice, and ... hell, I just grew up on it. Hands down one of my top 5 favorite song's of all time (along with Prince's "Adore" and Stevie Wonder's "You Will Know").
I am a JE fan but the GAP Band gave this song one important ingredient...and thats SOUL. You can tell JE just sing the song the way they heard it (probably) growning up. But, the GAP Band gave this song life and that is WHAT is missing in todays (so called) R&B. Nice try JE but, the GAP makes you believe the story of a man that much in love with his girl. Thank you Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson.

the gap band aint shit no mor they so playd out man charlie wilson like 80 singn bout getn sum old pussy lol at dude jagged edge is underrated dey ben doin it for awhile now an got better since this album jagged era to me suckd but it had this an gotta be an even when they changed labels they came back super hard man dude jagged edge will put gap band out of bisness then or now yeah charlie is a good singer ok so is jagged edge

Sorry guys. I heard the JE version first, so I can't dig the Gap band version. That's weird for me to even admit because I always go for the original artist, but JE got me caught up.
My ears are in tuned for the old school version...I agree the Gap Band hands down....Charle just got it like that...now if I was at a club and house band was singing like JE then I would say yeah they got down, but this in not the case so...Gap band it is....
i usually like JE but I think they came out weak with this remake especially when you're following in the footsteps of Charlie Wilson, one of the best vocalists there is. plus I don't think the remade beat fits the melody.
There is no other voice like Charlie Wilson's!! I do enjoy Aaron Hall as well, but Charlie Wilson's voice is just, hmmm, words cannot explain! He gives great concerts too!! The JE version of Wed Lover is ok, but Charlie Wilson is untouchable!!
Oh, no Gap Band hands down; I don't need to hear the whole song.... Charlie and his brother the GAP BAND; Often imitated but can never be duplicated there is only on CW and the GAP BAND.
Do you think that R. Kelly was influenced by TGB's "Wednesday Lover" in "Your Body's Calling" with his lyrics that go "distant lover, I will be right here, so have no fear" ??
both renditions are pretty fly (wish Uncle Charlie would redo it) this is just a sexxxy ass song....Check out Uncle's other slow jams. WOW, my ipod it rocking this joint
The first time I heard this song, I went looking to download it and ended up with Jagged Edge's version, which is nice, but I wanted to version I heard on the radio (the original GAP band version). When I finally found the original, I rarely ever touched the J.E. version again. They're talented, don't get me wrong. But there is just something about their version that's just "ehhh". Can't quite put my finger on it. Great harmony, but not better than the original by a long shot. Sorry guys.
Hands down it goes to the Gap Band. Jagged Edge is ok, but Charlie and his brothers are on point... plus I am old and this takes me back to my clubbing days... THIS WAS THE JAM..... I just purchased a used CD so I could get this song.
I dont know if it is generational but i would have to say JE got it if i have to choose. Their harmony is on point. However, the audio may be the cause of that, it was back in the day.

Dont get me wrong i love love love this version infact a lotta time a have this version play right after the JE version... i think they are both kool but if i had to choose one... i would go with JE....
When Quincy Jones put out an album in '96 called Q's Juke's Joint, he had a song with Aaron Hall, R. Kelly, and Charlie Wilson called Heaven's Girl, you really couldn't tell who sang what verse, but you know Charlie Wilson's influence is heard on defintely R. Kelly and Aaron Hall. Charlie Wilson has one of the most talented/influential voices in RnB.
Are you kiddin!! I don't why Charlie don't get no real love in the industry. Aaron Hall and R.Kelly are just a couple who patterned some of their vocal styles after CHARLES The GREAT.
I got to go with the Gap Band, even though I love the Jagged Edge version. There's just something about the Gap's version, especially with Charlie Wilson on vocals.
They both sound good to me. Both are classics and I think J.E did a great job with their version. This was the first time for me hearing the original. The Gap Band is legendary.

this track is an exception. jagged edge remastered the sound to a crisper quality and the vocals of je are much better with more of a flowing tone and given it more flava.
im a huge je fan anyway but those who really follow soulful music listen again and tell me that gps is better. respect for both tracks but je wins hands down. didnt know its a cover. jes is my one of my favourite tracks.
