Harper has pulled the military out of Afghanistan as pledged and on schedule, not that Afghanistan had any oil to begin with.

As difficult as it may be to understand, the only thing that keeps the US from exerting power over us is a strong military. Not to deter an invasion, but to simply run a country. Take natural disasters like floods for example. Only the military has the flexibility, equipment and experience to deal with these things.  Without it, we rely on the US totally.
