  • What software did you use?

  • How do you get that effect in the dark!? It's just really grainy for me! Please answer! (I've got An HV20) Thanks!

  • Wow great quality

  • Unreal. Great tune and use of footage. Canon cameras are the best.

  • @RhysLikesToVlog thank you! i used final cut express

  • sounds like a new Mogwai song, but it isn't...

  • where did you get the music from?

  • gsjdsd! this is insane! tv quality!

  • Which one should i get: hv20 or vixia hv40? Nice video!

  • @MrKizer the hv40 would most likely be better since it's newer, but both are essentially the same with minor changes here and there

  • @kmattson118 Can you tell me please where did you get this instrumental version of Srxt ? Really amazing.

  • @MathieuValbuena i'm not sure off hand, but i'm sure if you search enough for "a weekend in the city instrumental" you'll find it:D

  • @MrKizer Good question! I was wondering the same as fair as clarity. I saw that of course the 20 is about $250 cheaper. Hmmmmmm... Dithering

  • video is beautiful

  • Suddenly, I forgot about the camera, I lost myself in your video, is really, absolutely amazing...

  • @shaningmoon wow, thank you! it means a lot

  • Any lens used for this?

  • @telnetcarlos just the stock hv20 lens

  • can i ask if im recording with this camera do i need a tape cassete thing haha?:)

  • @joshy071994 yes, haha, this camera uses mini-dv tapes. usually each hold 60 minutes of footage

  • @kmattson118 thats not bad, but can i re use one tape over and over?

  • @joshy071994 you can, but i believe after a few overwrites the tapes will eventually drop more frames/degrade the performance the more you reuse them. i've been able to find packs of 6 tapes for $30, not a bad deal i'd say

  • Awesome video, love the abstract shooting, nice camera. Im local CT.

  • awesome video!

  • what did you use for color correction?!?

  • @MichaelShellyTV mostly levels and color correction in final cut express

  • wow, i am getting into movie making and i ordered sony hxr-mc2000U yesterday... Dude HV20 is awesome camera... Do u prefer HV20 over what I ordered yesterday? cuz i can still cancel my order lol :)

  • @Pixorexgy i loved hv20! but the hxr-mc2000U looks like an awesome camera as well. in the end, it all comes down to how you use it, techniques, etc

  • how did you got the depth of field without a 35mm adapter?

  • @lugometal you can either you zoom in on an object, or set your aperture really low

  • Just 1 question.. did you just use the HV30, or did you use any lens attachments?

  • @JackAdams94 just the stock hv20 for this one

  • Wow this is very cinematic and inspirational! What program did you use to edit it??

Well done by the way! Keep up the good work!

    Thumbs up :)

  • @JackAdams94 thank you!!:D i used final cut express

  • good job man

  • This is beautiful. I'm going to be getting an HV20 myself soon hopefully, if I can manage to get the money for it.

  • This is beautiful. I'm going to be getting an HV20 myself soon hopefully, if I can manage to get the money for it.

  • This is great work!!! you are really talented...

  • you ave a nice taste

  • This is amazing. You did a great job!

  • did you use a light for the low light that you did if not what setting did you use for this

  • @cashimirs all of the shots are lit with available lighting. and it was either shoy in cinemode, or shutter priority mode

  • amazing, seriously O__o

everything fits SO well, mega-awesome job dude XD

    ^____^

  • your editing skills are very strong. i would have liked a little bit more action/movement in some of the early shots as i felt some of them lingered on a non moving subject too long. very well put together video though, i wonder how you'd do working with actors or a script.

  • @itsumonihon thank you!! and check out some of my other new short films/music videos for actors

  • a very amazing film loved it you have talent

  • @SeanWilliamFilms95 thanks!

  • nice grading.

  • Where the hell did you get the instrumental from?

  • @AnonymousBarbarious i found it online.. but i have no idea where. i'm sure a google search will bring something good up

  • @kmattson118 I've been googling it for ages! cant find anything!

  • @AnonymousBarbarious if you would like it, i could email it to you. just inbox me your email address!

  • would you happen to remember what settings you used? also, did you white balance? if so, to what color?

  • @amor1vincit7omnia i shot this in 'shutter priority mode' with a shutter speed of 100, a faster speed for some shots. also, i locked the exposure. and i just adjusted the white balance as i went from shot to shot with the cameras selection.. daylight, cloudy, etc...

  • @kmattson118: k thanks!

  • if only it was in HD!!!

  • this video was nothing short of amazing, very very impressed. could i ask what song it was that you used?

  • This is superb. How much did the camera cost and where did you get it?? I'm seriously considering getting one, if this is the sort of stufff you can do with it :)

  • @42LightYears i got mine from probably $800, though that's when they were first coming out with them. i'm pretty sure it was from amazon

  • Absolutely phenomenal. You really got some talent. I seriously loved every single frame in this film. Bokeh could look better tho, but from your side, absolutely loved the shots and composition...

  • how did you get the look of the video? manual settings on the camera or colour correction on the computer?

  • @88skates88 i only use manual camera settings. so adjusting the shutter, focus, exposure..depending on the conditions.

also, the finished look was also achieved by color correcting. darkening the blacks, lightening the whites, adding contrast, and adjusting the red levels to get that blue/green hue

  • nice thanks a lot. It looks great by the way

  • Great composition!!! Good job!!! Very nice photography!!!

  • well done

  • very nice pictures, what effects you used for color correction

    and with that program!

  • can u upload this in hd?

  • @imjustthesexmacine i tried when i orginally uploaded it, but it only offers an HQ option instead of HD for some reason. i could try on vimeo or something

  • @kmattson118 it's strange because i've uploaded a video in HD recorded with a sony dcr-sr35 that doesn't have the hd recording... anyway It's not really important... excuse me for disturb

  • @imjustthesexmacine haha it's fine. it's probably just the way i compressed it for youtube

  • I recommend to get sony vegas pro 9 ;)

  • so amazing waiting to get my hv20

  • ugh I love this song, bloc party is amazing. And I think your video went very nicely with it - absolutely beautiful.

  • man nice video! :) i have a canon HV20 in the mail coming my way and i was wondering what settings did you use for this video?

  • @dcsfilmproductions thanks! umm i usually shoot in "shutter priority mode" with a shutter speed of 100 or higher, usually things seems crisper in that given enough light. and i always lock the exposure (there are a few tutorials around i think) also, i shot in 60i, not 24p

  • 0:42 :O!!!

    coolest ever

  • thankss!

  • beautiful

  • thankyou!

  • this song id the only song that has ever made me cry. i played it a lot after the tragic suicide of one of my family members. he hung himself in a public park.

  • awh jee i'm sorry

  • Good video, =)

  • thank youu!

  • You don't need a 35mm adapter, you got what it takes!

  • haha thank you!

  • you have THAT eye my friend. great work

  • haha thank you!!

  • again some great angles! and just amazing..

    love to watch your vids.!

  • thanks!

  • Just amazing. I'm totally stunned by the choice of your amazing angles. You're really having an eye for good cinematography. I couldn't stop watching. Good Job for using only the playin camera without any DIY 35mm adapter cheating ;)

  • thank you! i appreciate it!!

  • amazing work! i love to see how far people can take the hv20. especially without using a 35mm adapter.

    the hv20 rocks!

  • thank you very much! it really is an amazing little camera

  • Hi mate i want to ask you something. What should i buy HV20 or XL H1A? which is better ?

  • ohh well if you have the money, i'd go for the xl h1a, if you're looking for something more professional. but you can get some of the same results with a canon hv20, that's why it's so great.

  • then why buy an XL what is the difference? Can you please tell me?

  • i haven't used an xl personally, but from looking online, it seems to have more manual features. if you're just starting out, definitely go for a canon hv. i've had mine for almost 2 years and it still works, no problems, capturing amazing picture quality every time

  • Thanx a lot man, i will see the HVX looks very tasty too

  • how much is a HV20 in GBP£ ?

  • ohh you could get one used for as low as £300 i think, pretty cheap these days especially since they have newer models

  • i really love the way you shot the trees your video came out totally awesome. you can feel the coldness of the weather.

i'm hoping to get this camera soon.

    Nice work.

  • thank you!!

    you'll love the camera

  • This is awesome dude!!! Did these shots require any post production editing to achieve that look?

  • thank you! i basically darkened each shot, added a bit of contrast, and adjusted the red levels to get that green/blue hue seen in most of the shots

  • Yeah I thought so, I've been trying to get that edgy cinematic look for my shots through color manipulation/correction - but it's kind of difficult to get any real quality when using a miniDV cam :(

I'm thinking about buying a HD camcorder and I actually need one that has a really good manual focus feature. You seem to have some sweet focus shots; is it one of the HV20's strong points?

  • yeah it's tough with miniDV.

but yeah, i'd say the hv20 has some nice manual focus, compared to other cameras. for its price, and quality, i'd definitely recommend this camera. also, if you want even more manual focus control, you could always invest in a 35mm adapter as well. plenty of people have done so with the hv20, and the results are amazing.

  • sweet!! thanx!!!

  • it is better to decrease the red rather than adding blues and greens? btw, cool video. :) thanks.

  • usually decreasing the reds works best. that way the blues/greens are noticeable more. but you can always add a more blue/green hue to it if desired

  • really nice shots!! well done;) I love shots at the nature.

  • thank you, i appreciate it!

  • Some fantastic shots in here. really like some of the 'cold' looking scenes

  • thank you!!

  • defenitely agree, these "cold" looking scenes are great, very well done !

  • woahhhhhhhhh 0:26 - 0:27

  • Hey kmattson118, I would love to see these kind of shots with people in them. Have you taken any footage with this camera of people? If so I would love to see it uploaded :D I'm thinking of buying this model of Canon.

    Cheers

  • yeah, we have a collection of videos with people. you should check them out! and definitely a good decision to buy an hv20, it is an amazing little camera.

  • Mr kmattson118:

This video is the main reason for having spent 400 euros in a used Canon HV20, specially for the images from 01:00 to the end.

It will come to my home in a few days.

Now I'm recovering from the injuries caused by my girlfriend for purchasing the camera : - P ; - D

I hope I could take that kind of awesome shots.

Thanks a lot for the video.

    Best regards from Spain.

    - Rubén Alonso -

  • oh wow, well i'm glad you liked it that much! you're welcome! it is an amazing camcorder, you'll love it.

  • How do you get such good low light quality? I seem to be getting a fair bit of noise with my HV30 in low light.

  • usually decreasing the exposure fixes that.

if you have some light source, point the camera a that, and lock the exposure. there then shouldn't be any grain really if it is bright enough. from there you can increase or decrease the exposure..

  • awesome..love it...can wait to get this camcorder soon!

  • Wow!!! im hoping to get a camera like this for my birthday! :D NICE VIDEO!!!

  • wow, that was absolutely perfectly done.....

  • Lovely stuff! I have a HV20 as well and they are superb pieces of equipment

  • thank you

  • I like this very much. Nice shots and angles

  • wow! this was brilliant man! :)

the song matched perfectly too, its a beautiful track, the whole album is wonderful. well done :)

    xx

  • thank you!

  • okay mate :) keep it up.

  • Gorgeous man, I just ordered an HV20 online and I cannot wait to try things like this out. Plan on putting any kind of Tutorial online?

  • good purchase, you'll love it. i'm not sure about a tutorial, maybe if i have time.

  • Dude, this is amazing. I have an hv30 and I can't get picture quality like this.

  • thanks, the hv series of cameras are really amazing

  • wow this is cool

  • thanks!

  • Great work. Very beautiful.

  • thanks

  • stunning footage dude. i use a canon HV20. and idk how to got an artistic look into this..lol.

i dont that much about lens, but my friend keeps advising me to get them...for more of a film look into my videos

  • thanks. you really don't need have to get any fancy lens to make it look film-like.. you coud, but the costs are up there. if you want that shallow depth of field seen with a lot of 35mm films, either get really close to the subject or zoom in and focus.

  • amazing

  • Hey! Very nice video. I just got a Canon HV20 and am about to start experimenting on my own with it. Did you shoot with the 24p feature? What settings did you use to create the footage? Thanks so much

  • hey, thank you! no, i did not shoot in 24p. it's a pain trying to convert the 24p footage into usable footage for me because i use final cut express 3.5, and 24p is not supported..

i shot this video in shutter priority, using the faster shutter speeds, 1/100 and up. and always remember to lock your exposure, because if you have a pan or something from a light area to dark, or visa versa, it will compensate for that and adjust the lighting automatically, which doesn't exactly look "professional"

  • Thanks for the information. I am still learning how to use my camera (no manual), so some of the things you said I don't even know how to begin using, but I will keep trying. Really great work. Thanks again!

  • nice dude, norfolk should have u make something for their website

  • is this shot on minidv tapes or sd card??

  • I know the original song is about suicide, and while I was watching this, I just imagined someone seeing these shots during the last moments of their lives... it made me cry.

    Very moving video. Great job.

  • wow what a comment. i'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • that was surprisingly good.

  • hi there , which kind of programme for the lighting did you use in your video? What kind of make over did you use. I´d very much appreciate your advice .

  • well all of the lighting was natural.

if you mean color correction, i used final cut express. adjusting the "levels" to give it that greenish hue.

  • nice work man

  • SMASHING! 5 stars

  • thank you!

  • love the editing.... shuda trued the rack focus with the manual dial! overall really nice video... anoder testimony to the Hv30!

Can I ask you how long it took for you to render this particular edit?

  • thank you! i believe this export took about 30-45 minutes.

  • It is amazing videos like this that convinced me to buy my HV30. It's such an awesome camera. No wonder the same can be said about this video.

  • thank you! it really is an amazing camera.

  • im definatley buying one of these the quality is so crisp

  • beautiful

  • thanks!

  • This was an awesome video, can I ask where it was shot?

  • thank you! it was shot in northwestern connecticut

  • cinemode? 24p? Please give me some details, also what editing program did you use, and also what effects and tools were used to get this look.

  • shot in 60i set to shutter and or aperture priority. i used final cut express 3.5 hd to edit. adding "color corrector", darkening the mids and blacks. also, i added "levels" to it, adjusting the red levels to get that green hue.

  • Seriously gorgeous

amazing man, keep up the excellent work

  • thank you!!!

  • I agree, that was wonderful, powerful stuff. Inspiring even!

  • Wow. I find this really amazing, and yet it's just "simple footage." Xd.

  • thank you for watching!!!!

  • I enjoyed it a lot. Good photography and film always captures my attention. And wow, from what I've seen from you and others, the Canon HV20 is perfection.

  • very nice man. great pic for tunes too

  • thank you!!

  • cool vid

  • thanks

  • Amazing! You deserve way more subs then you have.

  • can't have everything i guess.. thanks for watching!

  • awsome dude...u always impress

  • thanks!!

  • btw whered u get the sweet instrumental?
