@Laskonka32 get halo 2 for pc it will explain that the forerunners built that structure thousands of years ago in order to take them to the master control center of the halo rings. that is why they wanted to get to earth so badly. the humans thought that they wanted earth because they wanted to wipe out humanity, but the covenant just wanted to get to the ark and the humans were in the way. they want to light the rings because they think it will take them to the great beyond

@Laskonka32 and if they light the rings then life is over for all the galaxy. so that is why the elites and humans teamed up to stop the prophets. the elites found out that halo was a weapon when the flood boss called "the gravemind" told them. the gravemind wants to stop the rings from firing because it will kill him too. odst takes place after the slipspace rupture on new mombassa during halo 2. seriously get halo 2 for pc and you will totally understand the story

1) There wern't enough ships left, certainly none that could do atmosphear engagements.

2) They didn't see them as a threat, not strong or numerous enough to pose a theat. Besides they were busy.

3) it shares many similarities but they changed alot.

I like the ending cutscene the best. After obsessing over the announcement trailer and watching it about 10,000,000 times, I was pissed at how this cutscene turned out...at least have the Chief do more than just stand there watching it. :\

My favorite cutscene, i wanted a bigger one where its all star wars battle style. you know with battleships all firing and thousands of tiny fighters crossfiring in between them.

and yeah i dont like the flood either. but i like fighting them its fun in legendary
