  • I think instead of head it's hair. Listen really closely

  • This song has more than 1 Meaning.

Maynard's Song-Writing Style is based around more than person/subject.

  • Some douche stole your video and COPY PASTED your explination for the meaning of the song.

  • Love the meaning, love the song, love the band, everything!!! (Especially the Base! :> )

  • 4:14?

  • i thought this was a rock version of maroon 5

  • @JellayToasT wow...idk, how to respond to that but it sounds like an insult to me. tool is leaps and bounds better than that "band". tool is real music

  • @demonzrock666 when you go from schism to this, u notice the difference, i like it a lot, it just sounded weird at first compared to his other style of singing

  • @JellayToasT o.O you fucking kidding me?

  • Adam Jones is bad ass

  • im waiting for 4:14. but love it all.

  • Maynard James Keenan for prez seem the only twice but WOW

  • 4:14 This moment always gives me a fucking shivers on my whole body!

  • love this fuckin song!

  • "ganja, please" ? not about weed? it is about hypocricy, legal hypocricy towards weed smokers

  • @xTheAngryBiKidx

    Totally

  • "reefer save your shitty inferance"

It's not about weed people! lol...

  • This song has a dual meaning, as confirmed by the band. One meaning is cardinalbaseballer5's and the other IS about marijuana the ridiculousness of its illegality.

  • i agree he has to be one of the best songwriters out there. keep that lemon juice out your eye kiddies

  • thanks so much, i loved your work./

  • @ariansajadi No, 'full of it' means you think to highly of yourself, where 'fool of it'... doesn't make any sense.

  • hell yeah brother Chad Grey and Maynard for president and vice pres i dont give a fuck who gets what but either one has more knowledge than the mother fuckers in either office since well fuck a long time ago is it bad that id prefer a musician of so called "devil music" to the fucking old retards that run this country?

  • The pot in the song is the judicial kangaroo courts/lawyers mentioned "looking in the mirror" and the accusing "the kettle" (other ppl that may not necessarily be guilty) of what they themselves are actually guilty of :P

  • @Javo2357 So.. basically, they're being hypocritical?

  • @CamelotFitzpatrick Basically. Not all lawyers and judges abide the law completely..and that is the way it seems in the song, except that they're in charge of putting others in jail, which wouldn't be right if they happened to be the same or worse

  • Very good interpretation :D ohh and "pot calling the kettle black" is an old expression where someone calls out/criticizes another for something that they themselves are guilty. Pots are normally black and the pot sees its reflection in the kettle (which are usually reflective) therefore concluding that it is instead black.

  • Hahahhahahahhahahah

  • @Dragsooth Ignorant comment, Sir. This song has nothing to do with Marijuana. It's sending a message about hypocrisy.

  • @ThisDanceScaresMe The song isn't about marijuana, it's about Kangaroo courts and their hypocrisy towards pot dealers and pot smokers. Exact words from the description, you'd know if you read past the title.

  • Fucking potheads.

  • @Dragsooth Your an idiot....hahhahahahha The song is a Metaphor, your stuck in a Pot. Dumbass.

  • @blueeyedsoldier100 Apparently, *you're* the idiot, who posts insulting comments without knowing correct grammar, not to mention your interpretation of the lyrics are simple-minded and nescient. I believe that makes you the dumb ass. Nice interpretation, cardinal. Thanks for the insight.

  • @ThePoisonedpallid okay.

  • Yeah....I feel yuh.. It's the truth alright. I'll admit. He's sending a message, and it got to me. And many others, opens eyes and shows me what I know I really am inside.

    Real shit uh?

  • @blueeyedsoldier100 i feel you, its good to see there is others out there with intellectual ideas

  • @Mikekarrosdrum Exactly, haha. It's pure poetry. Philosophy call it what you will it's Art!

    =]

  • I'm so jealous (and amazed) he can sing like that -.-''

  • brillant fucking...just brilliant

  • i love your videos! although i must say, some of the comments that they cause are quite interesting :p i like what you think the song is about and one thing i like bout the band is it seems that they write their songs so they may be interpreted however it may pertain to your life. (not sure if im right, just seems that way) KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!

  • It's about hypocrites.

The pot is the pot calling the kettle black.

Of course the title can be related to how they must of been high to been the one to talk.

  • I don't think tool fans need to be schooled about their lyric's meanings.

@skitzobrazy you're either a troll, an idiot or an attention whore, STFU dude.

  • @Bauermayers those who have not herd tool, and those who are only now being introduced to their music do not have experience with their lyrics, writing styles, and the meanings, so videos such as this tend to help them understand more and determin if want to continue listening to the music. Think before you speak.

  • lol i'm pretty sure Maynard has been molested. I'm just saying it's kinda funny. Or mabey i'm just trying to get people mad... or both lolololololol.... Sigh im such a troll

  • members of the band confirmed the song is about Hypocrisy. The title comes from the saying 'the pot calling the kettle black' and the 'high' parts refer to feeling morally superior.

  • This song reminds me of that movie called "Se7en". That part from the movie when John Doe explain why he killed those people.... /watch?v=D30mjWsC8C4

  • @dreacul I love that movie. That, IMO, was the best part of the movie.

  • heroin crazy fckin drug alrite. did it 2 times. shot up and snorted. crazy either way. lets just say i was balled up in a dark corner for a few days and robbed a gas station lmao!. ima pothead though. im not stupid either.

  • I have one thing to say to all of you if you have never been addicted to herion you have no clue what this song is about so SUCK IT

  • Best songwriter ever

  • @BFMVHeadbanger see few people can spot lyrical genious like you,me, and a few others. I'm glad someone else shares my oppinion

  • Comment removed

  • hey nice one, can you make one for ''schism'' ? :D

  • Ganja, PLEASE?!?!?!?? <3

  • Can I just hit you? I mean it's not about marijuana, you probably are a pot head who loves weed. >_>

Pot heads are idiots... (Most of them)

  • @TheTacticalGamer1 No you just don't see life at the perspective we do... Maybe because were on a different level and it all ties in to who you are... But saying that I agree a bit with this being said I mean that "SOME" pot heads are dumb. Peace and love person

  • this song fuckin rocks. if you woudnt have put the meaning, i wouldve thought it was just about bud,but this song makes alot of sense now, great job with the meaning.

  • Very cool!

  • west memphis three

  • Good job with the lyric video. But lets be honest, your 'meaning' is only somewhat true. People may take other meanings for this song.

  • @Alumitt THANK YOU!

  • awesome job! two thumbs up!

  • if there is one thing i love more than messing with people on xbox live it's litsening to music that makes you think p.s. fuck mainstream & fuck whitey peace

  • New favorite song. Can't get enough of this.

  • dear interpreters:

who are YOU to wave YOUR fatty fingers at them, you must've been OUT YOUR MIND.

  • awesome song broisf

  • This one brings me down to earth. "He's guilty as the government"

  • Soapbox house of cards and glass/ don't go tossin' your stones around

  • well one does have a stick up ones arse doesn't one lol, its just a song and its a damn good one to but nobody needs to be force fed that crap cheers :)

  • excelent

  • This song is not ABOUT marijuana but makes numerous Marijuana references as part of the argument.

  • Love Tool <3

  • I wouldn't say it's directly about pot or kangaroo courts. pot just happens to be one of those issue that's predecided in most taboo societies

  • "rob the grave to snow the cradle and burn the evidence down" ... is that not a reference to the theft of Mary's body to protect the myth of her being a virgin?

"who are you to wave your fatty fingers at me" ... Fat fingers of the church.

Just Maynard being his usual dogma hating self. The very reason i love him :)

  • My boyfriend showed me this band now I'm in love with them. I love the meaning of his songs. Keep em' coming! (:

  • Comment removed

  • Now I see the "Ganja please" as a sort of phrase similar to "Bitch please."..

  • Nice job with this man.

  • That bass....words can't explain.

  • Man, I LOVE your meanings videos! Keep them coming

  • lyrics are about today's court systems being blinded by their own perceptions and shunning those that break the law, even they themselves break the law constantly with little things and cheat their lives for their own gain. With his references to drugs and being stoned, he is actually saying, "what the fuck are you kidding me? you must have been high!"

  • @mprior93 There's that , but it's much larger than that. The "weeping shades of indigo" is a reference to the udjet eye and the new agers. "eyeballs deep in muddy waters" is a reference to the new age concept of the "muddy waters of materialism", with hypocritical new agers claiming to renounce such things while, in reality, being fully immersed in them.

  • @Tsadi9Mem9Khet9 Nicely put. Not knowin much about new ager's or anything i just felt it was a way of saying 'you hypocrites are full of shit' - stemming from the term 'your so full of shit your eyes are brown'.

  • @101mckraken That's completely understandable. If I hadn't become aware of the terminology and symbolism used by Theosophists, etc., it would've remained ambiguous to me as well. Your conclusion as to what is being conveyed is completely correct, it's just a matter of not having been aware of the identity of those being addressed.

  • Grooviest fucking bassline

  • muscs perveved by the lstener

  • if ratings weren't disabled i'd have given this a thumbs up, i thought u did a good job. so ill just comment so instead.

  • this song made me love this band with a passion

  • I met Maynard at an after-party for A.P.C. While there, he encouraged my friend and I (who had brought pot to the party) to "stop using that sh*t," that it was a "waste of our brains."

I'm not sure of the explanation of the lyrics of this song, but the idea that they are not about pot rings true to my experience with the artist.

  • they must of been HIGH writing that

  • While in kangaroo court innocent people are guilty before they get a real trial here in my shit country (Romania) young teenagers with rich mom and dads who drive while drunk and kill innocent peoples on roads are not considered a danger to society and are set free from jails.

Man, i'm so fucking tired of my country.....

  • @dreacul It is the same way here bro, cash is king. USA sucks too, I am no longer proud of my country, not the way they are running it these days. My eyes have been opened to many truths lately.

  • Lol i made it snow:D

  • Horse

  • amazing bass line

  • Ty Max for showing me this band. It's sick.

  • The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to accuse a person of being guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another. This may or may not be hypocritical or a contradiction.A kangaroo court is "a mock court in which the principles of law and justice are disregarded or perverted".

  • Comment removed

  • hmm, interesting, i've heard of kangaroo court cases but have never understood what they actually were...

  • They made there point and will rock on to that!!!!!!!!! any one THAT HAS A PORBLEM WITH THEM CAN GO BLOW UP!

  • nicely done. very in depth but simple for the idiots on here at the same time.

  • @TheSwitchblade2112 johnkennedythethird's simple comment shits all over the OP's explanation.

  • but isnt that that what hes saying through the song N P as we'll now call it

  • @kllyrichwine Well, seeing as how it's Tool you're entitled to your own opinions. I'm just saying that's not what I think he's saying. You can if you want.

  • Do you think at the end Ganja Please is really a politically correct way of saying nigger please im just saying with the utmost respect to all...

  • @kllyrichwine No. I don't think that's what he's saying. Think of in terms of the rest of the song and how it fits in at that time.

  • IT IS AN ORGASM FOR THE BRAIN I FEEL COMPLETE AND SATISFIED AND LEFT WITH CURLED TOES AND A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE.......

  • When it comes to lyrics Tool does not even publish them with the album of really discuss them at all so people who try to say that they know these song meanings or the message of the song are very mistaken and really just full of shit.

  • For how much Maynards fans respect and rever him he shows almost no appreciation as a singer Maynard is the best but as a human being he is really smug either that or he is just afraid of his fans.

  • There is wide debate about the meaning of alot of Marynard's poetry...I like the fact that you can listen to a song get one meaning and listen again at a later date and take another message..Tool is one of the best bands ever..and they have some of the best vidios ever.......PERIOD....ROCK ON!.......

  • Without a doubt TOOL is the best band around too bad Maynard is a really smug person to his fans.I can see being smug towards the media but not to your fans i've seen TOOL six times and out of all six Maynard showed the least appreciation out of all the band members towards the fans Danny,Justin and Adam all do bows and throw stuff into the crowd(In Las Vegas Danny threw his drum skin into the crowd and I hit it as it flew over my head then one second later it had twenty people on top of it)

  • *like*

  • Wonderful job!!!

  • i love these guys vids (-)

  • zar ovo, ne slusati i ne razumjeti . zar to nebih bio GREH ???

  • i love the pot thumbs up if you agree!

  • if i could i would thumbs up ur comment thousands and thousands of times my good friend (-)TOOL(-) FOREVER (friend me;)

  • Actually dude, Tool have come out saying that this song actually has two seperate meanings, and low and behold one of those is about the legalization of marijuana. Though you are correct as well, they have also confirmed that this song is about the foolish justice system as well. Tool are a highly structured band, and as mechflesh said, they also write alot of their songs to accommodate to the listener and allowing him/her to essentially hear what they want from the song.

  • @johnkennedythethird in other words, their songs become a psychological "tool" to the listener, with each listener using that tool differently.

  • @johnkennedythethird awesome information/interpretation thank you for that ;) thumbs up

  • @johnkennedythethird I was going to say something, but that was incredibly well-said. I will say one thing:

DOUBLE ENTENDRE! Tool loves 'em! Lol.

  • @johnkennedythethird Thank you for this. I can solve a couple of arguments with friends now haha

  • this song is sooooo powerful i love it

  • Popular with girls 13 - 17. Why can't I ever find one of those girls???

  • love this song

  • tool doesn't really have that many fans because 300,000 of these views are mine

  • this is the like bar

  • The oot re fers to the old saying: "The pot calling the kettle black"

  • @LabRat4680 *pot and *refers

  • "This may also reflect that you can never entirely or forever hide the truth. Someone at some point will expose you as the hypocrite you are."

And thus you must have been high to even try it.

  • "Rob the grave" from what you put there to "Snow the cradle" cover your own crimes by replacing the truth with fake leads and then you "Burn the evidence". Society robs the graves of the innocent to cover its own guilt and hide the truth from the generations to come. Like digging up a mass grave in order to burn the remains in order to hide the crime. This may also reflect that you can never entirely or forever hide the truth. Someone at some point will expose you as the hypocrite you are.

  • You are paying way to much attention to what every little thing means rather than the point that this guys has been horribly wronged by practically everyone he has made contact with!

  • @CMWalkeresq What?

  • u must have been high?? its a little tiny bit bout pot lol

  • [ WELL DONE ]

  • "The idea of this song is not marijuana."

    (Near the end) "Ganja PLEASE"

    Its a bit about weed.

  • It means you are fuckin high to not see the truth. We are all hypocrites. Love it or hate it Cozened Indigo (a lie,a manipulation)

  • It means you are fuckin high to not see the truth. We are all hypocrites. Love it or hate it

  • i love meaning of this song. good job explaining it :]

  • Then there was the time she stole all my jewelry, including my cross, and my checks, so the dope dealers wouldn't shoot up the house with the kids in it. Or the time I had her arrested for stealing my car , debit card, and her sisters cell phone. They found her in the parking lot of Wal-mart with some guys she does not know, used syringes in her purse. You should maybe shut up!

  • If you ever dealt with someone on drugs, you can relate to this song. All the bullshit, stealing, lies, fake tears, it' sucks! Just sayin!

  • @loriannedc Because all drug users are complete monsters. Yeah. Live in your box.

  • The only " box" I was waiting for was the one I was going to pick out to bury my daughter in. It's called Oxycontin, and it's nothing to play with~ 3YEARS OF WAITING, BEING RIPPED OFF, You don't have a clue! What was I waiting for? The cops to come tell me they found her dead so I could get to tell the two little girls she left that thier mother is dead.

  • @loriannedc you have never listened to third eye.

  • wow totally killed my liking for this song thanks for fucking nothing

  • this song is not about pot!!!!! i hat people who think tht!!!!!

  • It's all totally about pot! :D

  • The lyrics are both about hypocrisy and cannabis. It's kind of a double entendre.

  • best composed song ever, lyrics complement the music. unparalleled

  • Nice work, thanks for the lyrics. Tool is amazing and the artistry of their video creations should not be missed.

  • this song is about potxD

  • 6 people didnt go to catholic match

  • ballin' description. pin-point. anyone with any type of common knowledge should have no problem translating the practical meaning of the song. i like how you went beyond just that though by sharing the knowledge that many might question.

keep spreadin' the knowledge to awake the ignorant

  • tool goes deeper into music.. they go beyond what people believe to be music.. they rip through the barriers and jab silently at the fucked up concepts in life and just throw in some guitar and drums. KICK ASS ILY TOOL! <3

  • 5:40 and after best moment in music history GANJA PLEASEEEE :D

  • I just love the fricking song!!!!, i cant care less about the meaning.

  • Comment removed

  • Lyrics..perfect timing ...man you must have been high

  • @tushar6231107 nice

  • this song is about people who try to come up with true meanings to TOOL songs.

  • this song isnt just about weed its about how shitty the government is and how they say the shit we do is wrong when they are jus as guilty as us

  • Just WOW i`m speechless great job

  • Wow! u were right! a kangaroo court sucks! I mean who tells a person he or she is guilty before you are proven in a court.

Remember, in the show COPS, the announcer says "all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." that being said, there should be no kangaroo courts

  • shut up, the songs called 'the POT" let me believe it's about weed... assholes

  • Ive listened to this song countless times and i just now realized its 6 min and 25 sec long!...time flies when your rockin to a great song

  • @Collard183 I've only just realized it because you mention.

  • @Collard183 That's totally how all Tool's music is! Plus you still wanna replay it a million times
