  • amazing job guys! Im really likin' this

  • For your walls - are you doubling them to make them thicker? Also, are they attached to the floor tiles or do you just build them and site them on top. I really like the look of it and it looks highly playable. I

  • @anarchopinko Nope - no doubling up. I also typically only do two rows of blocks (instead of the common 3). I only glue walls down to the floors on specialty pieces. In fact, there's an article coming up on our weekly blog about just such a case. Chamber of Eyes is a favorite map of ours. It really turned out well and was very playable.

  • @bensrpgpile2 - Thanks for the info! I will keep an eye out for that article. Yeah my players complain about 3 high walls sometimes in narrow corridors. I think I will adopt the 2 high from now on. I finally have 4 hirst floor molds so I have been cranking floor tiles out all week. We are finishing up KOTSF and I want to start preparing for this one since its the first crawl in Thunder.

  • Instead of laying out pieces as they progress through the dungeon why not just cover it with a black piece of cloth and pull it back as they move through. Oh the board is awesome!

  • @anarchopinko Ya know I just started trying the black cloth trick but I'm unsure if that method is a slam dunk. The cloth knocks pieces over and having the whole board setup in advance crowds the table. I like to give the guys some elbow room whenever I can. Still, I'm going to give the cloth some more chances though.

  • @bensrpgpile2 - I use pieces of black felt cloth, each about the size of a piece of paper. It is stiff and light enough that knocking things over doesn't happen much. I used to use black t-shirts but that didn't work so well. If I had the room I would like to have two tables set up for a big night with different sections of the dungeon on each table but...my wife would kill me (even though she is currently the cleric).

  • @anarchopinko Hehe - well, she would definitely kill you for taking up all that house space with dnd stuff but at least she would heal you when she's done:)

  • @anarchopinko I like to make whole rooms and halls ahead of time and add them on

  • i am kinda new to rpg:s dut in D&D do you need something to open the doors?

  • @Sims3seires Nope - we say it's a free action to open an unlocked door in 4E. However, we do say the character needs a minor action to close a door (during combat).

  • thats friken sweet!!! awesome job!

  • @moonreaper66 Many thanks. The key to the layout was using those boards and elevating some of the rooms. I'm trying to make the terrain more detachable so it can be part of the battle or trap-like.

  • @bensrpgpile2 that would be great!

  • can youb take apart things like the stable in torture room in chamber of eyes dungeon

  • @skillboy262 All our game boards tried to utilize a modular setup. It's a heart breaker not to re-use pieces (especially when there's been so much TLC into each of them).

  • Thanks so much for all the kind posts. Our group really appreciates it.

  • very cool. I'm thinking about doing something like this someday for my campaign.

Do you have a total cost to build, and maybe even a breakdown of the list of supplies? I'd appreciate it greatly.

  • Ohhh - good question. Hard to answer since there were so, so many different pieces from different vendors (and home creations). I would say that's at least $300 sitting there but the experience and pride of ownership made it worth every cent.

  • I see what you were talking about with flock in one of your other videos :)

  • Heh - flock can be so darn evil:)

  • Very interesting work. Its great to watch movies like this. Come see my Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons like movie by Shadowyn films.

    watch?v=xCL4k7Xoh08&feature=related

  • i probs should of watched the whole thing befor i left a comment! that is amazing

  • thats cool but that means that all the players can see everything or do u lay it out one at a time

  • I actually drop the pieces down on the map as they explore. It's super exciting that way...a real gaming adrenaline rush:)

  • wo! 5*s

  • That looks fan-freakin'-tastic :D

  • That is SO COOL! I love D&D!

  • This looks absolutely amazing. I would love to game on something like this someday. I draw my dungeons, but I have made some 3d terrain and monsters over the years.

How do you handle minis on stairs/inclines, and climbing?

  • Excellent q. Stairs are always tricky. I have stuff to represent stairs but I usually tell the group ahead of time - "That staircase requires 5 moves to reach the top". Sometimes the guys take some of the pieces too literally cause some of it looks so darn real (but we laugh it off).
