Not everyone needs a University degree, but everyone needs a decent basic HS education. Every University degrees does not mean that you will not get your hands dirty or a sore back.
Nurses, Geologist, veterinarians, all get dirty. The thing that all of the rising economy's have over the US is that they have dramatically improved educational importunity's for all social classes where we on the other hand think that as long as the elite is 1 step ahead of the poor, they are doing well.
America pays at least twice as much per student for K-12 than any other nation. It's a dumbed-down system devoted to teaching to the lowest functioning, non-English speaking student. We can thank the Jewish Lobby for so many good things...one is the fact they started pushing for open borders back in the 60s & continue to do so. Shutting down all immigration & sending dual citizens to their preferred country (Israel) would solve many US problems.
There are some major reasons why the American public educational system can be considered to be broken. But the core of the problem is that it is a market based system. The quality of schools vary greatly from neighborhood. It actually depends where you live (usually based on race & economics). Even within some of the larger school districts in this country that holds true.
@AkaiTsukiShimitsu Actually, you missed the point of what I said. And to correct you, local governments actually control public education system in the US. And because there can be great income inequality between individual school districts, the quality of education can vary significantly from district to district. As a rule, the poorer the area one lives in this country the more likely the schools will be underfunded and offer an inferior quality of education.
@AkaiTsukiShimitsu Sure it can. The commodity we are talking about is a good, or even adequate, public education. The quality of that commodity usually varies in in the US based socioeconomic levels of neighborhood public schools or school districts. Most poorer neighborhoods have schools that are relatively underfunded as compared to more wealthy areas; they don't retain good, effective teachers; the schools have less resources; etc
Bullshit. The more diversified ("unequal") an education system is, the better. It's a squandering of time, and money to try to give everybody the same education: The more intelligent students will be bored, the less intelligent ones won't be able to follow, and in the end, nobody learns anything. Once, the US education system was the best in the world. Thoughit has been badly damaged by busing, and affirmative action, it still ranks among the best, thanks to some inequality left.
@schlagerhansi while I agree with you on busing..the truth is your prescription is what will ultimately be the undoing of this country. It might be personally self-satisfying on your part, to see certain groups be relegated to menial jobs or not make it all, but it is not good for the country as whole. Education, whether you like or not or whether you understand or not, is an investment not only for each person but for an entire country.
On the contrary: A country will be undone when there's nobody left to do the menial jobs, and instead slaves, and/or illegal immigrants, are imported.
Not everybody needs a college, or university degree.
Of course, it would be nice if everybody could at least read, and write, but even that isn't necessary for a country to survive. Have a look at the upcoming BRIC states!
@schlagerhansi and that's why rich people (Democrat/Republican/Libertarian/etc) love illegal immigrants.
Not everyone needs a university degree, but any student who works hard and is qualified should be able to attain. It only helps the country, economy, society, etc. It may personally hurt your ego and sense of self-worth that Ribergoberto, the son of a Mexican immigrants is work on his medical degree, or Leroy, who grew up in the projects is an engineer, but you need to get over that.
Yes, there's a lot or profit to be made from illegal immigrants, all over the word btw, not just in the U.S.
Every student who is "qualified" should get a degree?
You know what's the reason behind the economic breakdown of countries like Greece, Italy, and Spain?
You know what's the real reason behind the "Arab spring"?
It's that millions of students with degrees didn't find an adequate job, and instead of doing "menial work", they'd rather do nothing, or make revolution.
@schlagerhansi no, that is not the reason for the economic breakdown in those countries. And even if you want to explain that conclusion, I am sure it is based 100% on your opinion than qualified, scholarly studies. It's 100% normative economics.
And while what you said about the Arab Spring is partially true, the implications of what your saying exposes your own hypocrisy, arrogance and sense of entitlement.
It's not just my opinion, but a fact, and it's based on what I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears.
As for those "scholarly studies", they have been made [up] by the same eggheads who produced those millions of unemployed academics, they are clearly biased.
I guess you've never been to Spain, or Italy, or Greece, and talked to those frustrated students, and acedemics.
@schlagerhansi You are very willing to assign people their place in society, but I know you would let all hell loose if someone else limited you to a menial existence.
Yes, once again, I believe it is a right of every student to have access to a quality education. And if they work hard, get good grades and scores, they should be able to go to college and earn a degree.
It won't hurt you if more Americans are educated, especially in need areas. It's a zero sum game. So chill out.
@schlagerhansi the way it is now, noone learns anything aswell, except your parents send you to private schools. the money you save on schools now will come back multiplied. and in the meantime people like bush and cheney are able to tell them what to do.
Ron Paul sucks, just because he's better than most of the other candidates doesn't mean we should settle for him. Rick Perry is a joke, Obama has proven (by the SOPA Act) that he actually is nazi-like.
This is a really nice soft porn commercial for what really is a lie! because I was educ, within this lie and ended up at the top school in the world for what my focus was.Amer love to deny themselves through hollywood like BS aka THIS they can continue to put their heads in the sand.like the last 50yrs. Not entirely their fault, our fed. gov. has groomed the educational system since the fifties and put flouride in the water since '48.telling you its good for your teeth in your toothpaste etc...
@lilbigbrow You are part of the problem. Your statement is designed to continue to divide out country. It is not Bush vs Obama - they are both the same. It is not democrat vs republican - they are both the same. It is the people against a corporate-owned government.
Wise up or shut up. Your words diminish what the Occupy movements are trying to point out. If you love Obama and all that he has done to continue the Bush policies, then vote for him. Otherwise do something good for a change.
@lilbigbrow Besides, why would a Brazilian comment on American politics? You have no business doing so, which you proved with your ridiculous statement.
We don't go to your sites and comment on your politics, so do us the same courtesy.
@Abbadon380 Then band together and tell your government to stop sucking from the teet of America. Tell your government to stop taking foreign aide, or bribes. Become independent so that you are not slaves to the U.S. and you won't have to worry about our politics.
@Abbadon380 Well, "dude", then why would you even comment? No one was talking to you, "dude". If I am talking to a Brazilian, and you think your country takes no aid from the U.S., why would you comment? Is it because you're a confrontational 21 year old child?
Truth be know, India has averaged about $100 million per year in aid from America during the last decade. Research a bit and get your facts straight before you make comments on things you know nothing about.
@lilbigbrow Hey, it was in your profile that you are Brazilian before you removed it. Are you now telling everyone that you are a liar? Or are you ashamed of your home country?

Education should be about more than simply getting a job.
There should be more free reign for people to learn and not just be taught.
We shouldn't be trying to make sure there are some educated and some un-educated people simply to mean some menial tasks can be done.
We should be educating everyone to find simpler, easier ways to do those menial tasks.
