actually, both have been abbriviated with "gow". god of war came out first for ps2 in 2005, then gears of war in 2006, god of war 2 in 2007, and gears of war 2 in 2008. the god of war games did come first in both and were abbriviated gow first. both god of wars were very big, both winning game of the year. then again, so did gears. both rock hard, but seeing as how god of war was "last gen", and gears as one of the rival contenders in this "next gen war", it may be why gears has more hype now.
