it's 148 as it leaves the racket everyone, not when it reaches the reciever. it's probably only a solid 95-105 as it reaches the reciever

@cain2335 admittedly, the terminal velocity is not the same from contact to receiver, but the ball goes nowhere near that slow over a fraction of a second. The speed difference is probably at most one and a half mph, and that would be with a weird spin serve. It would certainly make an interesting study. I'd love to see the results

@DustinDykes the ball, as it hits the service box, buckles and loses a large amount of force. this is due to new ball construction to slow the game down so more rallies happen and big servers can't hold their service games as easily. older balls wouldn't buckle; they would turn into an egg shape when the serve hit the box. this would enable the balls to retain a large deal of the pace added by the server.
