  • you can always tell the talent of an orchestra on the number of asians in it, this orchestra seems to be lacking

  • Beef...its what's for dinner!

  • I think it is better than some professional bands

  • High School symphony orchestra, wow real good

  • 2:32 = best place EVER ;3

  • Best freaking piece EVER! ;D

  • Anyone know where I can get a PDF of the hoedown for matters of personal interest?

  • @davinp123

soo?? im sure yu can do it! just practice!

i played 2nd for this in the SCSBOA this year and i learned it in a week.

  • That was great! What a great performance of Copland by a High School Orchestra. Good for you!

  • music its what playing.....

  • I love playing this song! I like that the cello gets some action

  • the cello part is so fun!!! well to me at least!! :D

  • Listening to a symphony orchestra, getting to watch them perform it always for some reasons makes tears well up in my eyes no matter what the song is...

  • pssssh @snowmoka they have plenty of violinists. My middle school orchestra is playing this right now. I am playing the solo part btw, but we only have 8 violins and most of them just play violin for a hobby. but my friend and I can play this without difficulties. And it doesn't sound bad :)

  • They can't handle this, violins are lacking, I know this because I'm a violin player.

  • FUCK YOU BAND DIRECTOR!!

  • ANyone else feel they're taking it uncomfortably fast? Seemed like they couldn't even handle it at the beginning...

  • @LordoftheHobbits they couldnt handle it through out the whole thing...

  • I played viola in Middle School orchestra it was fun but when in concert the Jazz band always looked cooler because they would play mission impossible after this and would sound way cooler. haha good times

  • Glad to see all this VIOLA PRIDE!

  • OMG!!!! Someone actually agrees with me! xD We actually played this song in All city Symphonic Orchestra... And I was glad we had this song because violas finally have a FUN PART :D I enjoyed playing this song :) I hope you people enjoy this song as well because this is Epic. :)

  • @Dracokagebuyo agreed! Violas need something good and fast and super hard and amazing to play! This song is perfect for it :)

  • @Dracokagebuyo yeah violas!!

  • @Dracokagebuyo AMEN

  • Not bad! I'm in 7th grade and I'm learning this 1 now. First violin part is pretty hard. Not the hardest tho. Nutcracker suite is harder. Especially when u play it in a quartet.

  • Not bad! My orchestra is playing this 1. I'm in 7th grade. 1st violin part is pretty hard. Not the worst though. Has anyone played the nutcracker suite in a quartet? :)

  • im learning this on violin and im in 9th grade from my private teacher :P

  • i just started band in my high school and im a freshman..we just finished learning hoedown..was NOT fun

  • harmonic A, dude

  • this a very hard song to play. they did just fine for a high school ensamble

  • Yes it is...I remember playing this my sophomore year in high school

  • omg! its my sophmore year and im playing this!

    small world huh?

  • we have to play this as a marching song this year.. crazy? lol

  • i have to too haha

  • it'z what'z for dinner

  • Beef.

  • I played this in 8th grade all-state band only it was orchestra. Very fun to play. I get a strange sense of pride when I hear it. lol.

  • really? cuz i'm a fifth grader and i'm playing this in an orchestra too...it sounds really hard to play. sounds really......fast.

    any tips?

  • hey you must have a really good orchestra for being in 5th grade. the piece really isnt that bad and once you get the hang of it, its the best piece you will ever play. i have played it on both upright bass and viola and i had a blast!! just practice alot and you will get it

  • hehe thankss(:

    it went well :D

    i'm glad it did

    whew!

it's really fun, its just fast ^^

  • That's the spirit :D

  • I know this is only high school but this is horrible

  • i agree with u... the go too fast and trumpet sucks.

  • i've seen much better performances.

  • holy crap! me too!! do you go to my school? lmaoo i'm so bad at the entire thing! and can you believe cheng is playing the piano?!?!?!?!?!?!?! lmaoo but they play it alright here....better than we'll ever be =D

  • holy crap! we're playing this song in my school orchestra at about 1/2 this speed and i can't even play it that slow!

  • this is my ballet song

  • Hey that was really good. I live across the street from horse stables and I want to go out now and round up a posse! haha...good job

  • does the oboe have a small solo around 1:55-2:02?

  • Thank you for one for saying that you are not a virtuoso, I went to college for 9 years and i am not one lol. Well i thinks its the recording but also i am not sure how the conductor has arragened the piece, I used to have a leader/conductor who did like add ones such as accents and crechendo. thanks

    -Jeff

  • I am presuming since you have your Drs in violin, you are very talented.Post something of yourself playing.Like maybe vieuxtemps or paganini.Play just a section.

  • these people suck.I own them all.I am a virtuoso in the making.I played sibelius when i was 12.Paganini when i was 13.Fear my formidable bow arm for i strike down any novice players.

  • There not that bad! I have worked hard all my life for music and i have graduated with my Dr's in music and violin. It took years, If you. I dought that you are a virtuoso, you would not be putting these people down becasue you would know how hard it was to get where you are. No one just wakes up and can plays any instrument. Thanks all, Great Video.

  • bravo. bravo. i love this song it reminds me of the bellagio.

  • They're okaayyyyy.

A bit pitchy at parts, and the firsts aren't really owning their music.

Good for a high school orchestra.

  • ahaha. our middle school ensemble played this. bunch of 13 and 14 year old. like a bit faster than this but what do you expect, its LISFA, a combination of the best students long island :]

  • haha

I'm in the middle school lisfa this year and I'm going to play hoe down from Rodeo.I guess Lisfa likes to repeat stuff over and over again.Yes,I am on of the best violinist in Long Island.

  • It is a very difficult piece. The tempo is very fast. Are you really 21?That must have been years ago when you did lisfa.

  • ooppssss i meant 21st chair !!! ahaha sorry !

  • Are you in Gemini?

  • HIGH SCHOOL?!?!?! my chamber ensemble could never play this, even if the tempo was 4x slower!!! GREAT JOB!!! wow. we're playing this for all region, and now, hearing this, i know i have to practice, practice, practice!!! especially concidering it's in like 4 days!! i'm gonna get pwned :(

  • duuuude we're playing this in orchestra... the oboe part is so difficult @-@

it's an awesome song though. :]

  • me 2! are you in mys?

  • bravo :-)

  • Very nice. I love performing this piece. I played it at a music camp where we had one week to perfect and perform the piece.

    Remember...Beef, it's what's for dinner!!!

  • very good for a high school orchestra, but could hardly hear the timapani especially towords the end.

  • You guys played this one really fast!

When we played this peice we had a guest conducter and he left the stage while we were playing. He was old. haha!

  • this was composed in the 1940s...look what American music has come to since then....

  • wow that was really very good for what looks like a high school orchestra...

    beef: it's whats for dinner

  • My orchestra is playing this right now. :) We're all strings, woodwinds and brass. It sounds so awesome!

  • Beef, It's what's for dinner lol

  • ahaha this is awesome. we're playing this song at my orchestra but we're just strings. but it sounds sooooo cool :D

  • lol, our orchestra's going to Austria and we might play this song, but with only string intruments. It actually sounds pretty cool with only strings.

  • Perfect. One thing that always messes up songs is tempo, and this song had the perfect tempo. All other versions of this song on youtube have distorted tempo.

  • kids look enthusiastic, how about you "conductor"? just beating!!!

    Keep trying!

  • i didnt hear a bass drum at all or a snare drum for that matter but it swas still good

  • It's actually really good overall. Their dynamics were good. But around the higher part with the first violins it sounded a bit out of tune. But overall it's still good.

  • Very good! organized!

  • is it me or is it in a different key because i remember it in Bb?...ohhh nevermind..its mixed with orchestrial...GOTCHA!..

  • it's in C

  • yea thats y i said nvm..lol ughh thats the only thing i hate playing with orchestra..because they always play in keys thats sharped, and i always have to transpose lol..though it it is challanging anf fun

  • lol your so wrong, your stupid. Hoe Down is fast... its a HOE DOWN!

but yes, this Orchestra isnt great.

  • actually, this orchestra is a bunch of highschoolers and they actually went on tour in New York City a couple of weeks ago, so don't be dissing something you obviously don't understand

    :)

  • hells yeah!

  • well if you were smart, you would know hoe down is from the BALLET Rodeo

  • it is supposed to be fast : )

  • Tamm, look up any other video of hoedown and you'll see that it's FAST!!!!!!!!!!! stfu already...

  • this was one of my favourite songs from our msuic course

  • the xylophonist is playing his/her part wrong

  • I love this song.

I remember we played it in middle school and it was always my favorite song to play. I wasn't in a full orchestra, though, I was in a strings orchestra, so it sounded different, but it still sounded great.

  • OMG SAME CEPT RIGHT NOW...

  • It been years since I heard this on the Beef "It's what for Dinner commercials

    and I still like it

  • We play this, it sounds really different, but the band Im in is a concert band so there arent any strings....

I can see the score in my head lol

  • love this song!!

  • luv this song!!! I'm playing it with the select orchestra at my middle school. It's extremely hard but amazingly fun tto play!!=)

  • im glad i quit orchestra!

  • why

  • because

  • I have to say, overall it was really good, but of all the times I've watched this song performed I have got to say that the middle section (with the solos) sounds so much better with strings rather than trombone's.

And if I am looking at the right person, whoever played the trombone solo looks mortified after doing it.

  • I could not agree with you more

  • everything is better with trombones.

  • we're working on this for our spring concert... it's a lot of fun to play!

  • same here. it is indeed quite hard

    cuz its in D!

  • This orchestra is so cool, the violins have very good technique, besides this is a very old video.

    (im in it..lol

    and im a violinist...lmao)

  • The Greater Miami Youth Symphony played this song last year and they played it so much better. also, GMYS is made up of teenagers, so...yeah...

  • I LOVE THIS ORCHESTRA. Dr. Hasty is an amazing conductor...(im in it)

  • The Oskaloosa Symphony Orchestra in Oskaloosa Iowa would do a waaaaay better job.

  • i played this at the royal albert hall:D

  • im pretty young but im gonna play this piece its so fun my orchestra rock!!!

  • Our symphonic orchestra is playing this and I don't mean to toot our own horn (no pun intended), but I think our first trombone got that solo down better.

Regardless, I think this is a really good performance here.

  • ouch

  • im a freshman in high school.. and im the only violinist that got accepted into NEISTA Honor Orchestra in Iowa. thats tomorrow.

i thought i was playing it fast during practicing, but watching this changing everything.

then i went into my room and played it this fast, and i got it! lol it was weird.

very hard piece. at least for me.

  • lol! im a sophmore also from iowa also playing this piece for the second time! ironical... judging by your profile name, would you perhaps be named lillian? if not, sorry.

  • i played with this orchestra the year after this was filmed. The bras was basically the same. that time we played glinka they blare at the end.the viola section has it rough.

  • haha you said bras

  • oh man...

i gotta hand it to them, theyre alright, except the trumpets.

i play the cello and my school played this same piece. not to brag- but we played it a hell of a lot better.

  • what is that famous commerical that uses this song??

  • Used in the National Beef Council's "Beef, It's What For Dinner" TV commercials.

  • okay..thank you very much!

  • saxaphone = 5 sharps!!

    very difficult piece, played great

  • skills, how many sharps were there, cause i think there a couple different versions of this song five sharps on my band's version

  • Er... It all has to do with the instrument you play. Strings are tuned in C so they have 2 sharps. It varies, you see.

  • I know! I play saxophone so I have about seven sharps! After tons of practice, I can finally play it this fast and I play first part (so I play the melody).

  • beef -- it's what's for dinner

  • Really Really Good just some intination problems! Im doing this in my symphony

  • oh my those horns need some work

  • Half of the people in my Orchestra class can't play this.

  • I could on viola, and I'm pretty happy with myself.

    1st position is easy.

  • Great lie. It's SO believable.

  • i played this at Carnegie Hall last year

  • i can play this now

  • clarinets got it hard when playing it in band... ugghhh fast 32nd notes!!! this symphony plays it well though

  • i finally can play this

  • i wish my symphony would play this we got Capprico Italin this year tho

  • they sure are cramed in that small stage. where is this concert hall. does any one the full percusion list for this work. what about the harp and celesta are they used???

  • The percussion is only timpani, suspended cymbal, snare drum, woodblock, bass drum, and xylophone. If you want to get really technical, there is also piano and one note on a celesta (which can be played on the piano or glockenspiel).

  • lol my teacher can't play this song. LOL.

  • then ur teacher.....sucks......a lot lol

  • err... that's not good, is it?

  • yeah. My Drumline is playing this for our feature, it's awesome, the arrangement that we are doing, It features a LOT of snares.

  • my orchestra is playing this piece for our next concert in about a week its a fun piece to play

  • Yeah, that note at 00:19.

  • Is it me, or did the trumpets play a wrong note in the beggining?

  • yep i heard that too, still great overall!
