  • thank you so much for this video! i finally understand how to blend with oil pastels! any tips on how to blend oil pastels with mineral spirits?

  • Thank you, Elsiepercy!

  • I finally understand! I took art appreciation in college and got an A, but didn't get the concept of color/hue/tone. You are awesome! Thanks so much. I'm picking up my supplies tomorrow.

  • I just had one question: What is the most famous art style??? Is it painting with solid oil, water paints, or sand art or oil pastel?

  • @TheSvartdemon

I have no idea what the most famous art style is. An argument could be made that it's carving stone or drawing on rocks since that's been done throughout the history of humanity. That's a question like popularity contests. You'll get different answers from different experts all with good reasons for it.

Oil pastels were invented in 1925 by Sakura with Cray-Pas. So the possibilities are being explored. Picasso used them a lot, so there's one of the most famous artists using OP.

One thing that oil pastels are great for though is being able to make videos and post online. They're bold. The lines are heavy, colors blend easily, colors are strong and clear. So you can do better online with oil pastels than some of the more delicate mediums like pencil drawing ,where sometimes it's hard to see what's going on in the video.

  • these both video's helped alot!

    your good!

Thanks! I hope you get a good grade on it. Oil pastels get a good dramatic effect very fast and powerful, you can do a lot with them.

  • Lovely video, Robert! Informative and fun!!

  • Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. I made another two-part video today, hope you like it!

  • It's a great video you got here Robert!

And it is easy to follow too, good job!

Glad you were able to use the movie maker to help with the video editing process as it looks great!

I've got a few packs of pastels gathering dust, must make sure I use them this century!

  • Thank you! This comment may not go through because for some reason when I try to comment on YouTube anywhere, my comments vanish.
