  • lindsay strokes were scarier indoors

  • i loved how martina was almost always smiling and enjoying herself in the heat of battle...i believe that's partially why lindsay was smiling too ;-)

  • i love davenport's strokes. they're superb...everytime she hits the ball it's like...a bomb!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM.....lindsay...love you for this!!!

  • What's amazing about the dominance of Lindsay and Hingis is that they both had contrasting playing styles, yet they were so competitive against each other. They are two of the best players who ever lived. Sure, they don't have as many Slams as the Williams, etc, but they've won a ridiculous amount of titles and both made it into Grand Slam finals, which they had the chance to win. I always look at it like that. If Lindsay didn't have injuries, she could beat everyone's ass.

  • @kinglear

umm i definitely wouldnt say they are the two best players who ever lived. they dont even come close to what steffi graf, monica seles, martina navratilova and chris evert have done in this sport.

  • @holocaustik

Hingis put audiance back to WTA seats and so as Seles, I wouldn't know what other players can do something like that...

There shouldn't be so much hate in there, that is thing like this, created someone like Günter Parche

  • @kinglear

They were probably the rare type where the top 2 players have so much respect to each other and so much expectation on each other, that what WTA tennis so great at the time!

  • great match between these two legends

  • Great tennis these two are sorely missed on the tour

  • and also couple of weeks ago prior to this match martina beat lindsay in the finals of zurich in a classic 3 setter, why should she be frustrated??

  • i don't think martina smiled cause she was frustrated, why should she be??! she's won almost everything and she usually lost matches to great players. she wasn't pathologically obsessed with wins, she was very realistic

  • @MrNoDiRi

They were probably the rare type where the top 2 players have so much respect to each other and so much expectation on each other, that what WTA tennis so great at the time! And is so great that they actually happy for another who win, that is extremely rare even for ATP players

  • I don't know why Hingis always hit the heavy topspin shots, especially on the forehand (her backhand was often pretty penetrating). At 0:56 it sounds like she broke her strings.

  • I like Hingis a lot because she is really out there to have fun.

  • that's why she was slamming her racket a lot... she really is a sore loser, sometimes she only has fun when she's winning... she was smiling because she was frustrated..

  • @jolanza2006 WRONG!!

Martina's match against Lindsay in the 1998 Acura Classic Final was a classic and Martina lost with Lindsay making shots that were insane Martina was very appreciative with the commentator saying that's why he loved Martina because she smiles and shows she loved playing win or lose.

going back to what you said. who wouldn't want to win or get frustrated at times anyway? their both great players.

  • I don't anything about that tournament, but I'm sure she was having fun since she was practically on a high of wins from 1997 (her runs in the grand slams). I don't HATE Hingis, just sometimes she comes off rude during matches. LoL I wanna say thank for the videos! Not this one, but the others on your channel, appreciate it!!

  • the smiles at the end from both sides were nice!!

  • Hot match...luv Lindsay range and acuracy! Martina was always extremely crafty.

  • Great match..the backhand down the line from Lindsay was just Insane..

  • I love the point at 2:35

  • These were the golden days of women's tennis. When the game was ruled by Davenport, Hingis, and the Williams sisters. The women's game is quite boring now. Lindsay and Martina are gone, and no one not named Williams believes she can win. The exception to that is Sharapova, who's hurt.

  • What do u mean? There is someone named Serena who's been winning, hello..lol. Plus Venus dominates Wimbledon or is at least a major threat when she's not 100%. Unfortunately Maria is still overcoming those blasted injuries which hold her back.

  • How many winners did those two hit?! loss count lol

  • LOL At 5:50, Hingis' scream sounded like she was being attacked. Lindsay's groundstrokes really are that scary.

  • You're right, Lindsay's strokes are lethal when she's on!

  • I used to love the Davenport vs Hingis matches. Its the big ones that Davenport really won with the US Open in 1998 and THe Season Ending Championships in 1999 along with the Australian Open in 2000. Even though Martina had a few big wins like the Season Ending Championships in 1998 and also Zurich in 2000.

  • I liked the contrast in styles. Davenport with the bigger weapons, Hingis quicker and with the better defense.

  • Great match, these two played so many finals and were always on great terms.

  • I agree, this is my favourite matchup on the WTA. I hope they do play again although it's very unlikely. :(

  • lovely point by lindsay at 2.35

  • i thought she won in 2000?
