No one could possibly imagine how great Pidge was without having known her. She was beyond a pet. She was my child. My God rest her wonderful little Pigeon soul.
When she put her beak between your fingers, thats the way pigeon kiss, they do that before they mate thats why she lower her self after so the male jump on :)
i have a pigeon i rescued when it was young, it hated me alllll winter and as soon as i was planning on its release it chose me as its mate and demands attention and pettings from me 24/7! shes cuddled next to my cheek pecking my nose right now
Left me?? After 4 years with us our beloved Pidge died. She would never have left. Our windows were opened all the time and she showed no interest in the outside. Pidge was the best pet and friend a person could ever have! It's been over 2 and 1/2 years now since her death, and we still mourn her.
pigeons are wonderful friends........my neighbor has one exactly like this one and it has taken a liking to me..Comes to visit me almost everyday sometimes back n forth......i here a plop on my Ac in the window and there is leroy! lol
I have a pigeon. It's a white pigeon that somebody must have let go. One day it just showed up on my windowsill and kept coming back. Then it started to lose its balance flopping around on my balcony when the weather got cold. It was squeeking when I first took it in but now is a mature bird. Maggie Poo. Very affectionate bird, and I love her so much.
I'm thinking about getting a pigeon, I think they're super adorable. I know you can teach some birds to poop on command, do you know if you can teach a pigeon verbal commands?
Interestingly my 3 girls don't do this part. They just run over to me, start preening me like mad, then crouch for me. They never do the feeding part.
that's a female bird n what shez doing wiv his fingers is the pigeon kiss each other n thn she sit down to let the male do his job lol she the hand is male she needs a male pigeon big time lol..
Wow, you let her sit on your desk? you are awesome :D (though they poop alot)
My family doesn't like to keep a pet, but whenever one nests (happend twice with red butted bird and pigeon). We let them stay. we had a pigeon in our balcony. She was pregnant, she disliked us. so we like threw the food from the window. I always touched the baby.Again, didn't like me lol.whenever i try to touch them the male one attacks me.they flew away at the end.they were cute!but we had to clean the balcony X_X
@escorpio123 no problem, keep your birds safe. also, loud noises, noise that would be way too loud for a human, can actually give a bird a heart attack. same for rats
pigeon poop wouldnt be a problem, just make sure you wipe it while its fresh. ust NEVER use toxic cleaners, or air fresheners. bottle of water, u can spray or mist would work just fine.
thats a submissive female pigeon on heat.....she needs a mate now....... pigeons do that quite often. its natural........ watch the way she sits at 0.57 and giving a beak as u say here is mating invitation in terms of pigeons..... any way it was nice to see u handled her so well......good work man
Nobody puts pigeons in a cage, because it flys and come back to its house.
When you buy a pigeon you need only to attach 7 feathers togather of every wing by a paper tape, after 2 weeks free it, it may stay with you or not ! it depends if it liked the place.
It is better to get a young pigeon and it will stay with you forever !
Pigeons eat at any time if they are hungry, you can feed them three times daily, one on the early morning, after noon and before sunset.
lol pigeons if u raise them from babys will imprint on who spends the most time with them they will LOVE you. i tried to let my pigeon free once it got older but it banged into my window screaming untill i let him back in and he was so happy to be back lol. theyll follow you anywere
She was in a cage with the door opened. She came and went as she liked. She grunted in fear when an outsied door or window was opened. or when someone she did not know visited, Pidge was somehing else!!
get one..... that way you can bond with it and also it is waaaaay easier too look after 1 then two 1= 1 poopy every one hr right? and 2 is 2 poopys lol
had quakers, parakeets, finches and 1 pigeon. all but the pigeon were store bought.she was by far the best pet.
found her one may night with a small head injury at the mall and she couldn't fly.
i brought her to the vet the next day and he said she had bone loss and was an older pigeon but i kept her.
she was so smart and friendly.after having her for 10 months,my daughter accidentally let her escape.maybe she was better living the rest of her life in the wild as she did recover but i miss her.
You are soooo right belladonna1999. Not only was my Pidge the best pet bird I ever had, she was the best pet of any kind, and a better companion than most humans! She understood and in some way reacted to 21 words and phrases I said to her. I miss her more than anything I have ever lost!
Your pigeon laving a home of 10 months and not returning is very uncharacteristic
It's funny that she didn't return after being with you so long. If you'd had her from a chick she ould never have left. She must have had a mate out there somewhere.
@Rallow my avian vet said if a domesticated pigeon is put back into the wild, they are doomed because they can't escape hawks well enough :/ although the mate could def. be a possibility (i hope that is it)
@Rallow haha, i rescued a pigeon as a chick, fell out of a tree at my house. we "let him go" as soon as he could fly, but instead, he took a mate and made a residence up in our garage and would come to greet me by landing on my head everytime i got home. even our dog, who would routinely catch pigeons, was cool with him. awesome animal, although not really a pet.
You know nothing about pigeons. I do have another pigeon, but Pidge ignored him and loved people. She died from a congenital stomach problem that the vet could not cure. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to save her. She lived 4 years and I believe that she had a happy life. Incidentally, I currently live with my 3rd wife who loved Pidge as much as I did. I never cease to be amazed at the workings of some peoples minds.
used to live with over10+pigeons in my room!Sdly my parents cannot allow the stench and poops on the floor and on the wall. But i do know this, much as you are atached to the birds, you need to let it go when its fully healthy because when they die you have that bad feling inside a feeling of regret.Letting a bird go feels really good! If you really want to have pigeons, build a housing for pigeons where they have the fredom to come and go as they ple zor breed as well.∩┐(^_^)┌∩
The life span of a captive pigeon is 3 times that of a feral pigeon.
Ive rescued and release 3 pigeons in the last 5 years. When I found Pidge that is what I intended for her. However when I tried to release her after 3 weeks simply would not leave. I tossed her out of the window several times, but she kept flying back in! When I finally shut the window and tried to ignore her, she sat all night on the window sill till I opened it the next morning. In short she choose to be a pet.
haha very nice! i have a pet pigeon too! I found her in my backyard with broken wing, she lives with us now as her wing looks like it ll never heal, and she and my german Shepherd have become best friends!
I've rescued quite a few pigeons, and have kept some of them as pets. The latest, Mayim, arrived at my window soaked in oil. He was skinny, hungry, and cold, and his tail had been worn off in places from dragging on the street, heavy with oil.
I offered sunflower seeds, and he loved them so much he let me hold him. I gave him repeated bubble baths in California Baby shampoo and warm water. He got clean and fluffy, grew his tail after I plucked out the bad feathers, & is doing just fine!
ccoraxfan. You really love the bird so get some Neo-Calglucon (ask your vet). If she starts to lay eggs and gets depleated of calcium she will colapse and won't be able to stand. She will try to pick her self up with her wings. The first time you see it you think that they have had a stroke. Only a bird vet, or someone familiar with birds will recognize the symptoms. A few days of the supplement and they are good as new. Then give her a few drops a week.
This happened to my pigeon. I loved that bird so much. I wish I would have known about the Neo-Calglucon. She would have still been alive. I also lost a Cockatiel to egg binding. That was horrible also.
Gotta be careful, by petting her that way you could be keeping her constantly stimulated, which would be hard on her body. Most birds aren't meant to be in breeding condition constantly. Also if she lays eggs it will deplete her of calcium and other minerals and nutrients.
How cute! Did you raise him since he was a baby? When I lived in Boston Ma, I brought an injured pigeon to Tufts Wildlife Hospital and a month later brought him where I found him and he flew away with his friends.
your her mate when you stroked her back she went down thinking your going to tred her thats you she lays eggs infertile i keep racing pigeons and 2 hens pair up they lay eggs i have a few videos of my birds on youtube
Some pigeons love to be petted! This pigeon often sits on my mouse pad an solicits me to pet her by pushing her head under my hand much the same as a dog would.
You should feed your baby bird Kaytee Baby Bird Feeding Formuls, which you'll find at any good pet store such as Petco. If you can't get that, feed it a 50-50 mixture of milk and egg. (Warm but not hot, as with a human baby.) Good luck with your bird! Birds ara amazing, and I'm sure you will get much satisfaction from it as a pet in return for your kindness.
A bird's waste is all in one package. I've trained this bird to use a place I've set up for her where everything is coved with plastic. As with a dog I trained her by rewarding her when she poops in the right place, and scolding her when she doesn't. Right now she's about 90% paper trained. My male bird is not as smart and is having a hard time learning this. This is all part of owning a pet of any kind. We balance the problems they cause against the enjoyment they give us.
Most higher pet birds who have no mates will bond with their owners. This one has laid over 30 infertile eggs. I even sent away for a fertile egg so that her motherly instincts would not become frustrated. Though she sat on it and hatched the chick, she would not care for him, so I had to raise him by hand. Search Youtube using "The Dinkster" and you will see him.
Shes lovely!, Im hoping to start an aviary in a little while and I so want to add some pidgeons/doves!, unfortunately I live in england so Ill have to have a good search ^-^, whats the difference between doves and pidgeons, do they have different temperments, also do you know whether cockatiels/small parakeets/quail are ok to be in the same aviary as pidgeons/doves, thanks! SUPER CUTE PIDGEON!

Small babies should eat every 2 hours in 24 hours, i know it sounds a little hard, but its not, you dont need to feed them at night though.

Playing SHNIBBLY BEAK! I know that game. Crows like to play Shnibbly Beak, too. And the look in their eyes... "Ahhhhh."

Very happy bird. I agree with

That was horrible also.

haha wow it seems like it actually ENJOYS having its beak held. does he think it's a game?
thegreenskittle 3 years ago 2
Gotta be careful, by petting her that way you could be keeping her constantly stimulated, which would be hard on her body. Most birds aren't meant to be in breeding condition constantly. Also if she lays eggs it will deplete her of calcium and other minerals and nutrients.

haha mine does that too

How cute! Did you raise him since he was a baby? When I lived in Boston Ma, I brought an injured pigeon to Tufts Wildlife Hospital and a month later brought him where I found him and he flew away with his friends.

Some pigeons love to be petted! This pigeon often sits on my mouse pad an solicits me to pet her by pushing her head under my hand much the same as a dog would.

How cute I found a bird yesterday that might be a pigeon What do you feed your pigeon? It is so cute and seems healthy and happy!!!!
tinaitsme18 4 years ago 3
You should feed your baby bird Kaytee Baby Bird Feeding Formuls, which you'll find at any good pet store such as Petco. If you can't get that, feed it a 50-50 mixture of milk and egg. (Warm but not hot, as with a human baby.) Good luck with your bird! Birds ara amazing, and I'm sure you will get much satisfaction from it as a pet in return for your kindness.

how do you control your bird when it poops and urinates? is it trained to potty in its cage?
n9e9o9 4 years ago
A bird's waste is all in one package. I've trained this bird to use a place I've set up for her where everything is coved with plastic. As with a dog I trained her by rewarding her when she poops in the right place, and scolding her when she doesn't. Right now she's about 90% paper trained. My male bird is not as smart and is having a hard time learning this. This is all part of owning a pet of any kind. We balance the problems they cause against the enjoyment they give us.

That pigeon wants to MATE find it a mate it will have babies it think that u are its MATE
ZEMY69 4 years ago 2
