Good footage of 4472 - but those lineside photographers wouldn't get away with standing on the embankment nowadays, let alone crossing the track!

Oh yes. Great footage there, and from the 80's too: my favourite decade!

4472 is no doubt my favourite mainline loco of all time. Will never forget my first encounter with her at Llangollen in 1993.

I've noticed something. Usually in the US, the engineer gives a "toot toot" of the whistle as he passes. How come you don't do that in the UK?

Drivers do that here too, providing they see you and are kind enough to do so.

@ronthecyborg. Some times they give a " toot toot" to passengers, departing and danger. If you see " 4472 Flying Scotsman Departing York", she blows an South African Whistle before off to Scarborough.
