@BohepansTheThird I think at that moment, she was trying her best not to unleash her inner John McEnroe. "Oh, you can't be serious man, YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS!!! THAT BALL WAS ON THE LINE!!!" Uhhhh, wrong game dearie.
Uh... okay, he probably shouldn't have changed his card, but it's not like it changed anything anyway... he would have said lower either way, and he still would have been right. What are people angry about? That karma didn't punish him?
Wow. Bill Daly trades one of the best cards for the worst card in the deck. You don't see this happen every day. He was so damn lucky after running all five cards and with a royally bad card to start.
I found this from a Card Sharks episode guide on the web...
"For the tournament, Mary Ann Mobley, Greg Mullavey, Marcia Wallace, Avery Schreiber, and Meredith MacRae all won $5,000 for each of their charities, Bill Daily won $6,000 for the American Cancer Society, Ross Martin earned $12,700 for the UCLA Cancer Immunization Center, and Vicki Lawrence won the Salk Institute $33,800 for a grand total of $77,500 for the seven charities."
Later (on this episode or the next episode) Vicki Lawrence said she would quit show business if Bill Daily won for the week. They were playing for charity and the top money winner would win a bonus for their charity.
Portraying a "bumbling idiot" on "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Bob Newhart Show" might have made his characters endearing to a generation of sitcom viewers, however, as a game show player/panelist, that same "bumbling idiot" schtick becomes very tiresome and very annoying very fast. I thought he was horrid on "Match Game" and was always focused on acting like a boob instead of trying to let funny things happen as they are supposed to.....spontaneously.
This is not the first time it was a shock to change a good card. On the episode of Lee vs. Eva in '78, Eva changed a FOUR, which everyone thought was a shock, but an ACE was on top of the deck. She did the right thing to change, because the next card was a 3. Talk about luck there.
@caseykasemrocks tsskiller08 does have the full episode with Sammy Davis, Jr. appearing during the beginning segment. Key in "Card Sharks Sammy Davis Jr." and you will see the legendary star in Part 1 of the episode.
Our celebrity gal looks so shocked. I think she basically summed up what everyone who saw/sees this is thinking! That was AWESOME! XD

Priceless :-)

It's amazing how he had to think a few seconds before changing the 1st Q, but then "LOWER" right away with the 2nd Q.
I also like the end.. "We're running out of time" "We're running out of brains!" :-))

"Minnesota Fats, you now have the worst card in the deck."
Nice one, Jim!

cartoongameshowfan76 3 years ago
Wow, that is funny! I can't believe he won either.
SuperGamer7 3 years ago
Maybe he was being funny because since it was for charity it probably didn't matter, I bet both charities win the same amount.

All charities are guaranteed $5,000.

And whoever won for the week received a bonus for their charity.

The problem with the eight is that he's only lucky he chose lower. The way I see it, he was more deserving of a six or seven with his judgment.
