  • Hola escapulita!

Voy a intentar traducilos y enviarlos por mensaje personal. :)

  • Ruth Wilson has such a light and bubbly personality. I love her laugh on 1:04

  • Fantastic interviews!

  • I love the methaphore about his own sexuality trapped on a cage like Bertha. That sexy element on this version makes the story even more fascinating. And of course, Toby plays the most amazing Rochester. HE is the ultimate Rochester

  • I am not exactly sure that his sexuality is trapped :). It seems quite elusive some times like that cigar smoke of his that Jane can feel surrounding her invisibly. And then his sexuality had quite a space to exercise itself with so many mistresses...Lol!

  • U right.. Besides...Dont you love when she said that she must leave Thornfield and he kissed her?? That is pure magic!!! Lol

  • it was something good taht she where weaker in this version than in the book, so we can see the love that they have, oh im obsses with this i love the up lip of the catrees its so funny i dont know is weard hahaha but that make's here better for the job

  • I think that one of the reasons Jane Eyre survived as a heroine is her being an incredible strong character. Had she been just another woman-victim of his, then she would not be noteworthy. It is the strength of her love for him as opposed to her strong moral sense that make her different.

  • Thank you for this. It's very nice to see the director's view of her treatment of the story. I adore this updated version.

  • Thank you so much! it was awesome to see their view on the story~

  • thank you!I don´t understand all they said but...all the way,I love it!!!I review this days Persuasion my Austen´s second favourite book and.. I´m always move!

    bye!

  • I can translate what you don't understand or I can write you the sentences you have doubts in English.

  • I believe your first Jane Austen favorite is "Pride and Prejudice" right? It is my favorite Austen one and then "Northanger Abbey" and "Persuation". But above all I am a devoted Charlotte Bronte fan.

  • To continue, I understand what they wanted to emphasize with these comments, namely that they where going for a sexed up version of the book, which I wouldn't mind as the book is itself really passionate but they overdid it with the separation scene, which was the opposite of the book where desire is projected through denial of the loving object and not through sexy scenes. The moral dilemma is undermined, he appears as a liar (brother and sister!) and she much weaker than the book.

  • @ksotikoula

Well he WAS a liar! First time I saw this adaption I thought this is not Jane Eyre. But the more I came to think about it the less certain I became that Charlotte Bronté would have objected this adaption. I think she went as far as she could in the time and was deliberately going very close to what could be accepted.

  • @MsSilentia

And, leaving out the origin, I much prefere a Rochester desperately saying anything to make her stay, before the one who threatened to rape her when she turned him down,

That scene is awful and Charlotte Brontë makes it very clear that it is not respect or empathy or even self worth that stops him. Only the understanding that it wont work and maybe she will chose to stay in the end if he plays his cards well.

  • @MsSilentia

He lied about Bertha but he was not a habitual liar. What would be the use to tell Jane they would live as brother and sister? It is ridiculous even to suggest it, let alone think that Jane is fool enough to believe it.I wouldn't entirely object to this scene if it was presented as the passionate dreams that Jane has about Mr Rochester but I am annoyed that they sacrificed the dailogue of seperation (the center of the book) for this (just an erotic scene).Where are their arguments?

  • Well, everybody have their favourite scen and if the separation scene is yours, then I understand that you miss it. Others of us have other favourite scenes and as for me, the whole portrait is much more important than any special scene.

But the separation is always softened in movie adaptions, not only in this. The origin would be impossible on the screen. It is to violent, to threatening and the audience would just wonder why she goes back to him after that.

  • I know it's weird but I have to comment on my video. I am irritated slightly on two instances: 1) where Susanna White says "Our Jane is a very sexual being" which every time want to answer "Yeah, as if the character of the book wasn't?" and 2) where Toby Stephens adds "I like the way Sandy has made them two very sexual people" and I always react like: "It was Charlotte Bronte that made them that way, one and a half century back, not Sandy".

  • thnk u!!! its awesome to hear the actor/actresses views on thier character
