  • ramen noodles with egg and vienna sausage

  • She kinda sound like she is trying to make a commercial

  • what the hell is this rabbit food I am used to steaks mac n cheese home made and potatos

  • i love tuna with rice and its so cheap

  • rowmen noodles?

  • If you have an oven or microwave with oven function, I recommend baking your own bread. It's super easy and super-cheap, you can have it with cheap veggies like potato or carrots, or eggs, or you make a tuna sandwich out of it...

And don't buy canned soup, cook your own. If you calculate the costs/valure per servings, making soup from scratch isn't just cheaper, it's also healthier.

  • 5 bucks? that's cheap?

  • She must be a choosy mother, because choosy mothers choose JIF. Good tips from the Discount Trendsetter.

  • For cheap protein, I like to do salmon burgers. 1 can of salmon, a few eggs, bit of bread crumbs, lemon juice and spices. Mix it, form patties, fry/grill/broil a few minutes per side, and throw em on some bread. Makes four huge burgers. Super cheap, super fast, and a lot of nutrition.

I prefer the canned salmon to tuna. Tastes way better, and has way less mercury. You can get a can of wild-caught salmon for a buck or two. Might have some skin and bones, but those are healthful too!

  • You have to add spaghetti and sauce, its cheap and filling

  • Preach on girl. Sad thing is, i have all those items in my cupboard -___-

  • I have so so many (mainly Mexican foods) recipes that cost so much less. I should start my own show lol

  • Good channel, good information. You can make your own chicken soup. It is easy. You fry up a 1/2 to 1/4 Lb of chicken, boil up some egg noodles, add some chicken stalk (bulk food).. half can of corn. This is better for you than Top Ramen. It is less expensive than a can of soup, and you get more chicken than what they give you in a pre packaged soup can.

  • ike and tina? i wonder which one is getting the beat down

  • is it jus me or does the way she speak sound funny.... "mont" i thought it was " month" with an "h".....lol... funny lady!!

  • Thanks for the great info. Us poor folks need to eat too.

  • My favorite snack of all time is apples and peanut butter. I even have it for breakfast sometimes.

  • didn't ike used to beat up tina turner? lol I love your videos really entertaining i subbed

  • my mom used to always make me peanut butter and honey sandwiches....sooooo delicious!

  • This is one of the most ghetto videos I ever seen. I was trying to learn how to cook from you tube videos.

  • i have more than $5 ,

  • No new advice here... Unless you are 12

  • sry 'Roman' noodles?? peanut butter as a meal???? btw, soup is an appetizer, it'll just open your appetite up even more, making you spend a liiiiitttlle bit more than $5 lol...

  • i want to marry you

  • @FunnyLooking77 Wow. Maybe u should learn how to spell. Obviously it is very possible. Keep ur rude comments to urself. And the only ppl who say "nigger" are sorry racist bigots like urself. If she is so awful and such a liar then u shouldn't have clicked on the video to watch it.

  • Lady, you could eat for FREE in my house. 8=D

  • @TheDiddlysquat I dont like pigeon , i always choke on the foot ring.

  • You can get some raw potatoes and cut them up and fry them and then put hot dogs with some seasonings in them. it is so delicious.

  • @sdwh1963 Haha you stole that recipe from 'cooking in the depression' .

  • @marcarmstrong88

food is expensive these days...but u cant go wrong at the 99 cent only store--they have fruit and veggies(most of the time), eggs, canned items, alot of frozen foods and meats--etc... IMO thats the best place to shop if ur tight on cash

  • Hi thanks for this tip! When I was short on money I would buy a roast 3 lbs for 5 dollars and that would last me one week. I would take it for lunch.

  • Red Beans and Rice rule! But PLEASE make sure you soak your dry red Kidney Beans for ar least 12 hours, they can be poisonous when dry! Also, for a simple and inexpensive meal, mix a half box (half pound) of pasta with a can of tuna, a cup of frozen mixed vegetables, and a packet of alfredo sauce mix from the spice Aisle in your supermarket. Yummy and you get like, 3-5 meals from it!

  • @TheDiddlysquat

    whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

  • @TheDiddlysquat

    .....are you serious?

  • what do you do if all you have is a dollars times are tough.

  • @taralee0309

The only food item I can think of for you would be to purchase some rice. Once bag will feed you for a while.

  • @DiscountTrendsetter Mc Donalds Perhaps?

  • @DiscountTrendsetter make noddles, flour, salt, water, better than those cup noddles in the video

  • @taralee0309 then you cancel your internet and use that money to get 5 dollars

  • @taralee0309 dried split peas, rice, pot barely, and dried beans. BUY IN BULK.

  • cheese whiz should be on this list, you can put it with so many things

  • beer in a chicken is less than $5. save the drippings and serve over a bed of white rice TOO DANK! pull all the scraps off and cook with rice and soy sauce for the next few days. McDonnalds dollar value menu was all I had before that (save your receipt for a bunch of buy 1-get-1-free discounts on the back, its really only like .50cents pet item then)

  • Check out this outrageous cooking show on You Tube - COME DINE WITH ME AUSTRALIA - FUNNY!!!

  • so helpful, thank you!!!

  • thank you so much for this video, it was very nice! how sweet of you to share these ideas... im low on money and now i have food ideas!!

  • I agree with Luc. I'm on a tightest budget I've ever been on this past year. And I've learned to shop smarter while thinking healthy, too.

My opinion about the Ramen noodles and Campbell's soup, the sodium is outrageous. Not to mention MSG.

I catch the sales. Rice, beans, eggs, pastas, veggies and some bread. I've been surprised at how I've eaten a lot less meat and milk, which I haven't missed.

And Luc is right, tea over coffee, which has more caffeine anyway.

  • @voxgirl Great comment. The cheap foods like McDonalds and condensed soups and ramen noodles are sooooooooo unhealthy for you, it's disgusting. I'd rather buy some whole grain pasta, and go to town. Whole grain pastas, brown rice, cans of tuna and water. That's what gets me by in tough times.

Got all your proteins and carbs right there.

  • Hi! Excellent video, great tips. You are thrifty, wise, frugal, smart and a beautiful woman. Thank you. Jay

  • Kraft dinner (Macaroni & cheese) is cheap and easy. You can always add cut up hot dogs (kids love that).. or cream of mushroom soup and a can of salmon to create a casserole. OR add some cooked hamburger, taco seasonings and salsa for a different twist.

  • Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful tips.

  • @enslavedheart better yet, buy a big bag of pasta and a jar of cheese

  • @enslavedheart Mac & Cheese and hot dogs? You'll be paying more in healthcare if you eat food like that - especially for the kids! Try rice or beans or potatoes instead.

  • fry some onion, then add tomato sauce, it so good with pasta! or make a carrot sauce for pasta, 1/2 kg of carrotts cut into little pieces and fried in some oil, then add a 1/2 Litre of tomato sauce and cook for 10 minutes...then put it into the mixer and voilà, excellent pasta sauce!! and when you're sick of that taste you can just add a can of beans and mix it and you'll have "pasta e fagioli" taste! Really cheap and delicious!

  • Great personality! Make sure you only use brown rice. White has NO nutrition. Also go for a natural peanut butter such as Adams. No added sugar and more flavor.

  • ramen plus boiled egg and tuna together = YUMMY

  • Ramen noodles! GET THE BAG.....the cup sucks! Creamy chicken WHAT!!!

  • Ramen noodles! GET THE BAG.....the cup sucks! Creamy chicken WHAT!!!

  • loool I'm not poor!

  • steamed flour buns

    3 cups of flour

    mix with water

    form into hockey puck shape

    bake for 20min 350 F

  • Tuna and pasta is win

  • heres a yummy qyuick and easy recipe i have using a couple of inexpensive items. ok heres what you will need.

    -package of roman noodles

    -butter or margarine

    -hot sauce(i use a chili/garlic sauce)

ok what you do is cook up the noodles like normal, then drain all the water out, add a spoon of butter, add the roman noodle powder and some hot sauce, stir it all up AND YUM!!! goes great as a side dish with some chicken or great on its own :) adding some cooked red beans in there is excellent too!

  • Thank U so much for these tips! I watch this video whenever I'm so broke I have no idea how to feed my family. It encourages me!

    God Bless!!!

  • peanut butter over rice... try it! legumes+grain=complete protein.

put 2 tablespoons of pb over a cup or 2 of rice (cover the bowl while the pb softens) and then stir. Good food, complete nutrition, cheap!

  • when i first moved into my flat with my partner, i was about 20, and money was tight with bills and paying back loans that we got for our furniture, we saved money by making our cheap meals more filling, we put pasta in soup, salads with alot of things, we also got tobacco instead of ciggarettes, theres more in the tobacco and it costs less.lots of people might do this already, but if not it's a big help

  • Soup - you can add all kinds of vegetables to can soup too.

  • wow!!

  • I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER!! I eat it in everything!! Its really good heated up and drizzled on ice cream, mmm.

  • I'm Happy With This Food Lols

    - I'm Not Necessarily Fussy Anyway

    Can't you just exercise? Lmao

I wouldn't know much though I'm not overweight Lols WoopWoop!

  • PB's got my vote...I could live on it!

  • ha

in our house there are so many people that the maceroni and tuna wouldnt even last a whole meal!!

  • great video and very down to earth, kudos....also keep in mind using those good old coupons to make the meals even more affordable

  • you & your channel are adorable 8-)

  • "Beans and rice are like Ike and Tina." D., you are so cute!!! :)

BTW, to the people concerned about the "healthiness" of this food: If your car broke down or something and you ran out of money a week before payday (believe me, it happens) , you could eat like this for a few days and be fine in the long run. She's not saying to eat ramen noodles and tuna every day for the rest of your life. But, if you're hungry and desperate, and ramen noodles are on sale 10 for $1.00...

  • Nice video . That´s rigth , all those items are inexpensive but they are VERY unhealthy , except tuna fish .

    Cheap and healthy items are:

Dry legumes , not canned .

Fresh vegetables , always buy the sales , fresh if is possible

    Fresh eggs .

Dry noodles and grain pasta , do not buy the instant mixes or the canned cooked ready to eat .

Buy fresh fruit , as veggies , take the sales .

Tea , better than coffee and cheaper as well .

Sorry for my english . Greetings from Italy !!!

  • That's what I'm saying...it is NOT difficult to eat healthy meals that are inexpensive.

By the way, I don't know what's going on in Italy, but tuna fish over here in the USA is unhealthy due to the high levels of mercury found in the fish. I've been researching this, and I've found that it is said that sardines and herring have the lowest mercury levels found, if they even contain mercury, but I've stopped eating fish (health practitioner has me on a diet as of now :( ) for the time being...

  • Honey u r in ITALY and we are in the US- two very different things! Fresh fruits, vegetables and all the stuff u listed r relatively expensive here in the us...Certainly not for pple who are on a budget.

  • @Lucccccccccccccc true... even Tuna has issues though... canned tuna is actually contaminated from the canning process... the lining of the can releases toxins into the meat... and tuna absorbs mercury in it's environment, so when you eat tuna you are actually eating traces of mercury ... but, there are still some health properties in it ... good news is that cilantro is a mercury remover... if you can, always put cilantro in tuna

  • Great ideas !!! Have you checked out the local farmers market ? This is a great way to add veggies and fruits to your diet for a few cents ~ Be sure to bargain, or if you are not comfortable asking for a lower price, go just before they close and take advantage of their last minute sales !! Good for everyone ~ the farmers and us !!!!!

  • Great ideas !! Have you tried the local farmers market ??? Great way to add veggies and fruits to your diet for a few cents !! • Hi trendsetter, we see now how you keep that tiny waist of yours...I can eat a can of tuna in one day! haha...but your ideas are great, and yes they could keep a person who has very little money, going...cuz being hungry hurts, Try adding Pasta Fajole to your list for folks. Use he authentic recipe because with beans you have all the protien you need...besides it tastes alot better without all the junk in it, anyway! Let me know if u need the recipe.. Great job!

  • where are u from? never ate beand rice?????????????? omg. bet u love it now!

  • Ramen (roman?) noodles are SO UNHEALTHY. Tuna contains HIGH LEVELS of MERCURY. Canned soup (canned anything), no ma'am (btw, NEVER microwave food, mcrowaving KILLS EVERYTHING HEALTHY in your food...radiation much?).

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer. I'm all about the budget, but we must not compromise healthy foods, family. Is it any wonder why WE suffer the most from obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and every other illness related to poor dieting?

    here come the thumbs...

  • i agree with u, but this video isnt about healthy eating, its about surviving on food under $5, if thats all u could afford to eat with the money u had, i dont think healthy would matter at that point....maybe u should do a video about 'Healthy eating under $5" id like to see what u come up with...

  • Ouch!

If I had a webcam I would. But I tell you what, you can go to the grocery store and buy some fruits and vegetable combinations for under $5 and be equally as full from HEALTHIER food as opposed to what was mentioned.

I'm not dissin homegirl, I sub to her, and I appreciate this channel, but I stated what I know to be a fact. You are correct about eating what you can afford, but I wonder how many people can afford not to care about their health, but afford other foolish unnecessary things.

  • Over here you can only get about 3 (close to somewhat good) apples for $5...

  • By the way PJ, thanks for your comment, it IS appreciated :)

    TJ

  • @PjSparkle08 lol oh your funny oh this comment made me laugh i laughed even more when i saw that there was no response ahahahaha ohhh how funny and the ending of your comment was not worth $ 5.00 no no no... in fact..... it was priceless LOL!

  • @PjSparkle08 - My perspective on cheap food is to always be wary of "false value" - meaning that, one meal option might cost a little bit more than another but provide far more sustenance and nutrition. If it costs that extra buck to get whole wheat bread, for example, you must also consider that refined "white" grain loses 90% of its nutrition in the milling process. So really, the whole wheat is a far better value. Industries make a lot of money selling nutritionally empty food.

  • All fish contains mercury, all meat can be unhealthy. Unless your vegan, your paranoia is really pointless.

  • Who's paranoid? Everyone seems to be upset about me mentioning why the foods she listed aren't the healthiest to eat, even on a budget...your health will suffer in the long run (maybe not EVEN in the long run). There ARE healthier foods that CAN be purchased on a budget, you know. I am fully aware that all meats and all fish aren't good to eat, and sadly, veggies and friut aren't exempt from contamination either, but REAL food is better for you...

  • Honestly I dont even remember responding to your comment. But now that I have read it, again I guess, where are you getting your information of mercury levels in tuna? I am genuinely curious.

  • There is no point in stressing people out about the health effects those foods can cause if you can't come up with any healthy cheap alternatives for people to try. Some people are forced to eat unhealthy foods because they can't afford the healthy stuff. So they have to take the risk of getting all those illnesses you listed in the future so they can live in the present remember if you don't eat you won't live.

  • I never imagined that anyone would be stressed out by my opinions? I don't eat meat or fish, and I mentioned to one offended chick previously that you can (at least I can) go to the grocery store and buy fruits & veggies under $5 and become FULL off of that alone. I know this to be true. I do it all the time. You can also buy seeds & nuts inexpensively, but sadly, the healthier stuff IS more expensive. Is anyone willing to try it out before they get oh so stressed out?

  • I hope I did'nt offend you I did not mean any disrespect by that and im sorry if I came off that way

  • No, you didn't ofend me [ aren't you a sweetie :) ], I didn't take your comment as being disrespectful at all. I just never imagined anyone would be so offended by what I suggested. Had I known that, I would have kept my comments to myself. I just think we (my people) can do better. Some folks are quick to shoot an alternative down, without even trying it. I offered an alternative, and some people STILL didn't like my suggestion...oh well. You can't please everyone :(

  • ...and when I say some people, believe me, I'm not talking about you. I'm talking to the one's that had an "icy" tone in their comment...

  • If it isn't feasible, then I apologize for even offering my two cents. I have no dependants to take care of, so I don't know how this will apply to say, a family. The videomaker is correct...you can eat all these foods under $5. I apologize for stressing anyone out with my suggestions. Be well, everyone.

  • Roman noodles hahahaha

  • I love beans! & with rice, mmm.

For cheap food I buy banana tofu, canned soup and soy beans usually.

  • Roman noodles! That must be an import item, haha.

  • Yeah, I never saw them in a store before. Maybe I can buy Ramen noodles, they kind of look like the same thing right. Hmmm.

  • LOL! "like Ike and Tina"? thats not hand in hand, that's hand in face! lol, thanks for all that you do, Great Job dear!

  • HAHAHAHA LMAO!

  • thanks

  • I throw the pack away in the noodles and just add butter and whatever fresh herb I can find. Find someone who grows herbs and get them for free. Don't forget cornbread and milk,,,,,oatmeal....pasta with peas..potatoes and onions, fried together..egg drop soup...chicken stock poured over good bread is a cheapie and really good. Hot dogs or veggie dogs, fried up with potatoes or Spam...I love spam sandwiches. A can goes a ways.

  • Where can I get some Roman noodles? In Greece? Macedonia? Italy? lol

  • lol Roman noodles

  • Hey what about mac n' cheese in a box. Sometimes 2 for a buck...back some years you could get 4 for a dollar.

  • Ike and Tina? You won't find rice smacking beans across the face. Love you, darlin'!

  • If we're not supposed to eat our animal friends, why are they made of tasty meat?

  • Honey the rama noodles are the theme of the mont. ha ha

  • Be careful with the tuna though, ladies. Because of high mercury levels women of childbearing age shouldn't eat it more than once a week.

  • Hiya! I've subscribed and you see the FIRST vid I watch is dealing with food! yep - I need to revamp my priorities LOL - and lose about 50 pounds!

Liked what I saw; I will stay tuned and as a side note Ramen noodles are about 10 cents down 'henh in Ga!

  • Another couple of good money saving meals are Banquet microwave dinners (which normally only cost a dollar) and making grilled cheese sandwiches, which although you have to buy bread, butter, and cheese, can last you quite some time.

  • so cheap! 10 f0r 2 bucks!

  • I went to Dillard also. Dinner for me was sleep.lol...noddles have a lot of sodium in them...(use only half a pack of the seasoning)..

  • I went to Dillard. in New Orleans right?...dinner for me was sleep.lol..noddles have a lot of sodium in them(best to use half pack of sauce)
