  • To anyone who has lost someone this is so touching. Great lyrics.

  • How come the world doesn't know about this guy? OMG - he's amazing! I discovered by accident looking for a song to make into a Valentine's Day ringtone. Jeez, beautiful.

  • richard hawley ... so amazing - great songs great vids and most of all incredible music

  • like a slower morrisey

  • Its Milky out of This is England

  • Richard Hawley is awesome. In my opinion, he is the best ballad writer around these days. A bit of Sinatra mixed with Roy Orbison This song is gorgeous. The video is sweet and funny at the same time.

  • @Tuzotonic Deffo reminds me of Roy Orbison, Richard Hawley is a brilliant artist

  • I'm completely amazed having known the marvelous songs from this incredible singer!!!

And I got to know him just because of a 2010 cover version of "The nights are cold" performed by Camera Obscura...

  • To this day I never know whether to laugh or cry at this video. I normally do a bit of both! Brilliant.

  • This video really does bring a tear to your eye.

These lyrics make me think about someone special....

  • Awesome tune

  • I love all his stuff but this is probably his best tune

  • Timeless. Could have been written 50 years ago or 50 years from today, always beautiful.

  • sweet vid

  • oh my god its elvis costello...lmao no its not, but still its good, a bit different, i like it, i like different

  • It's a shame when yer motorbike dies. Rock on Richard.

  • It's Andrew Shim on the scooter, from 'This Is England'

  • @ThePicklers I thought I recognised him..maybe he makes a living playing retro characters :)

  • If you dont like music videos...why the hell are you watching them on youtube, you tube! Also, how does it kill the freedom of music??? Most song-writers probably give little or no thought to videos until they have to make em after they make the record... so that tubes on youtube watch em and maybe get into the music (or just write comments about not likeing music videos)

  • Simple chords, beautiful melody, great lyrics and the most Cheeeeeeesy vid ive seen in years

  • isnt that the point?

  • superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness superb lushness

  • sad'n funny!

  • lovely.

  • MILKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • well I thought this video was cool... very sadish.

  • Such a great song and a shameful video... it does not make justice for the beauty of it... Mute should put more money on this kind of artist's promotion... It's a pitty...

  • it's milky innit?

  • they could of at least used a real old person for the old guy, instead of just sticking a beard on the actor and making him frown.

    Great song though :)

  • i believe that's the point.

it's just a bit weird humor....

  • that is fantastic, well done Richard.

  • What a lovely song, spot the Dude from This is England and Room for Romeo Brass.

  • Strange video. But I like it because it was filmed around where I live. That's Redmires Top Dam at the end there, a really beautiful place.

You might like to know also that the picture of a Spitfire plane used in the booklet which accompanies Lady's Bridge was taken in Fagan's, a superb Sheffield boozer.

I like the way RH brings my city into his wonderful music.

  • is the guy on the motorbike n sidecar the actor who was in this is england (milky i think it was) anyway hawley is brilliant - its old fashioned romantic fare and he obviously loves his hometown (and my fathers hometown too ) it almost has the same legacy as manchester and the beatles aside it pisses on liverpool.

  • The song is fantastic, (like many others from Richard) ... But this video, leaves me speechless! Maybe Hawley could choose something better for a song like: "Valentine". Do you agree??

  • spot on analysis there zebras54 - such a heartbreaking track

  • beautiful song and a touching tragi-comic video that reflects how life is: sad and happy, memories and the present.

Beautiful sound, beautiful voice, great instrumentation and fabulous singer!

  • cobradel - I have recently discovered him and I'm approaching 63 - it must be his lovely gentle style. Went to see him at Oxford last Tuesday and he was great.

  • Must be an "Oldies" thing. I think the most pleasent "pop" music for years. Glad to hear he was as good live.

  • I was at that Oxford gig as well. IM only 18 and I think he's brilliant as well!

Incidentally I was the loud one shouting to him all the time in the gig.

  • andrew shims a great actor, and great in such a video

  • wasted, need proper actor. so unconvincing its unreal.

  • Wonderful song. Not many hit you between the eyes on first hearing but this did a few weeks ago. One of those that turn me into a 14 stone blubbering wreck when I'm alone. I bought Lady's Bridge today, not a dud on it. I know he's been around for a while and put himself through the rock and roll mill a bit but his time has finally come and it's well deserved.

  • tony blower is gay

  • ok. I am officially all weepy. damn you Richard...you do it to me every bloody time.

but I love ya for it.

  • Thanks for that. I certainly will be making an effort to catch him live. I had never heard of him until I saw him doing Serious on the box. I was really struck by the rockabilly backing with a vocal that didnt quite match but still sounded great. I bought Lady's Bridge and was blown away. A great new take on the classic sound (New to me anyways) Enjoy whatever's left of your Hols, Johnny
