yes, when I was there on new years eve, I walked around town by myself at midnight. I was greeted right and left by friendly smiles. Total strangers offered me their own drinks they had for celebrating and asked me to dance with them.
The people on the street knew enuff english to talk to me. I was impressed and felt safe there with all those Indonesian people around me late at night.

The muslims that I ran into in Indonesia where nothing but nice. They are only serious about their beliefs. as long as you don't try to preach another religion to them, then they will embrace you with open arms.
That's somthing I admire about there, is that they stand by their culture and what they believe in.

It wasn't erased, it was incorporated in many of our laws, but that piagam isnt the base anymore, it's Pancasila. The one who revised it in Pancasila were M. Hatta (obviously a Muslim) and A.A. Maramis, a Christian, not NU (even tho I did think that NU was always more modern).

And of course most politicians and thus the decision makers were, and still are muslim, who most likely to be active in muslim organisations. When a country has a majority of muslim, it will be weird to have a govt that consist on mostly non muslim. What I'm trying to say is they made the decision as a country's govt, not as NU members.
