What year is your honda civic hybrid in this video? It looks like a 2004 or 2005, I'm looking at 2001-2005 models for my 1st car. Plan on traveling a lot also. It was between this with 487 on a tank and Nissan Altima 2002-2006 getting 414 on a tank. I'm looking for something with a lot of miles on a tank, cheap, reliable and that will last me about 4-5 years.
My record is 72.5 mpg over 78 miles in Washington State (In April 2007) That was before my HCH2 screwed up, now it gets about 34 mpg. See the truth at Hondalemon com
Bull bull bull. Any car can do that in a tenth of a mile. The best I ever got was 72.9 MPG over 79 miles, and I was being gentler to that accelerator pedal than a hot virgin 18 yr old.

i have driven both civic hybrid and the prius hybrid, both car have slightly different hybrid system. Where the prius gives u the extra fuel consumption because of the motor engine. when u are doing below 30mph, it does not use any fuel at all, where in the civic, the motor engine seems not as useful as the prius, thats why the fuel consumption is not as good as the prius, but if u like to drive a car, the civic handles really great, the prius is not a great handling car, ill go for the civic
honda civic hybrids own prius's ever the insights do, they are much better set up than the prius and cost alot less, plus i trust a honda before a toyota any day, even though they are both on top of the market, my sale goes to honda! :)
you said the Prius got 48 hwy and 45 city, but it is actually reversed. The Toyota Prius gets 45 hwy and 48 city because under, i think its 30mph, it runs completely on electricity.
However, I still think the Civic Hybrids are better (own one myself) because a) the gauges are where they are in normal cars in the Civic, and b) it just drives more like a car.
Is this the 1.4 litre engine? Cause i have heard that in the US they put the 1.8 in the civic hybrid. I have my own Civic hybrid 1.4, it is not fast, but it is really fast enough if you dont use it for drag races! Very economic too!
@Hellbrawler They put the 1.4L in Europe to compensate for higher speed limits, and the new Prius has the 1.8L in the USA. For the rest of us in the USA, we get the little biddy 1.3L
I have a normal honda civic 2000 and I get 38 mpg (39.9 mpg last fill up) and it only cost me $16,000. Driving habits really do make a make a big difference.
Nice! That's a perfect example of get what fits your needs. One really good thing that I like is Honda's dashboard speedometer that makes me more conscious of how fast I'm going. I have slowed down more since and that alone may have saved my life. Thanks Honda for opening my eyes.
That 130mpg is kinda deceiving people. You only drove .2 miles. That's like saying you drove a Hummer .2 miles and getting 50mpg. You get a more accurate reading after driving 1000 miles at least or 1 months worth of regular driving. I have the 08 hybrid and I'm getting 46.7mpg with over 5,000 miles on it. Driving habits make a big difference in mpg too. Going mostly over 75mph I got around 41mpg on a long trip from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale. Stay 65mph or below and you'll steadily get good mpg.
I've averaged 47.5 in mine on the last 5000 miles, alternating between tanks with averages in the 50's to driving aggressively trying to see how the hell the EPA got a 42 average. Love this car!
How did the cross country trip do? And where is you go. I wanted to drive to Detroit from Los Angeles but, backed out I figured it would take 4-6 tanks depending on the highways, weather and AC usage. I've done all highway once with my Civic hybrid and got 57.8mpg.
with a fully loaded car, AC going and doing 80mph, we averaged 45mpg which is not bad for the trip, load, speed and AC with outside temp at 115F most of the way... love the car!
Ouch, you passed 2000 RPMs D: lol jk, but yes I am a future hypermiler as soon as I get my hybrid. I'll be a SAFE one (no tailgating, no running reds). And yes I will sacrifice MPGs for impatient people behind me by speeding up haha but if I'm by myself, slow is the way to go!
Just traded my '05 Nissan Titan for an '08 Civic EX and I'm loving it. I had no idea a small inexpensive car could be this good and the $37 fillups beat the heck out of the $75 ones.
I don't have the Hybrid, but I do have the new Civic. I get about 36 - 40 mpg...which is a FAR CRY from the 12mpg I was getting on my Tahoe that I traded. ;-)
How much did your Suburban cost? Was it enough to pay off your new Civic?
