Actually i had two theories:

1 (when the item actually dupes): the game thinks that the rune platebody is still in the same spot before it was swapped with iron, since it is moving so fast, but it also thinks the rune plate is where it was moved to. In this way, the rune plate duplicates.

2. He swapped iron for rune in bank, as is proven here.
