  • Now that's what I call a super really romantic moment right there when two couples are deeply in love

  • im sorry, but i disliked the choices of music for this film for the most part. sorry, no hate or anything, but i feel it kind of ruined it

  • Moroder's 'score' for Metropolis is dreadful as a film score - it has nothing to do with the film.

  • The Moroder version will be released on november 11th (2011) via Kino on Blu ray and DVD. Hooray!

  • @PasseportPimlico

Huzzah! Great news! There is much rejoicing.

  • This is the best of the incomplete packages of "Metropolis."

  • Pat Benatar trained as an opera singer before turning to rock and roll.

  • Giorgio Moroder made a great film into a fantastic one.

  • I have never seen the movie but fell in love with this song when I first heard it on her Innamorata CD. This version is far more beautiful and her voice gives me chills!! I am glad I found this,.

  • @Tamantha221 You are right that this version found in the actual film blows away that on CD, but are you sure you initially heard it on "Innamorata"? That was an unplugged acoustic album I think.

  • I've seen this clip a hundred times, and its old and cheesy and stylized like the 80+ year old silent film it is, and she doesn't even kiss him on the lips, and I still get chills at its evocation of love and devotion. Fritz Lang ruled.

And, yes, Pat's song IS helping. Doesn't get in the way at all....

  • this music + the film = many emotions

  • There were 2 tracks not included on the Soundtrack too. They are called 'Robot Dance' and 'Obsession'. They were only available on the 'B' sides of a couple of 45 RPM singles from the movie. Both 'B' sides are also Studio recordings, not the versions used in the movie. I have both and found them on the back sides of "Love Kills" (Freddie Mercury) and 'Here She Comes' (Bonnie Tyler).

  • @DMC12guy The official soundtrack is a joke... all bad rerecordings of great songs. And there is a lot of soundscape that is fantastic that the official soundtrack and B-sides all left out.

  • I felt your pain for 24 years. Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis Redux DVD is the way to go. Gilchrist is fanatic about Moroder's version. He took the laser disc soundtrack and recreated the visual using the cleaner 2001 prints, a little of the Moroder version and spent 2 years on it. It looks better then my VHS copy ever did. I give it 11 out of 10 stars.

  • Damn! This is so beautiful, I think I'm going to cry.

  • @FlavioSousa35 I think this song is the most beautiful piece of romantic art ever. I want to fall in love so bad every time I hear it.

  • this was the first version i ever saw of metropolis, and i may have never seen it otherwise. since then i've seen two or three other version with what's considered more "authentic" soundtracks, but they didn't move me like this one. the score is brilliant, and the colorization is done very tastefully (unlike ted turner's method). i, like many, have tried to find it on DVD,but to no avail. so to preserve my well worn VHS copy, i transfered it to DVD myself. came out great!

  • You can still find the 1984 Moroder version of this movie on ebay with a little bit of luck. There is one copy selling on ebay for the next 5 days. It is getting harder and harder to find.

  • @InvincibleThought i have it on vhs, i wish i could do something, so i can put vhs movies, etc, and convert it to youtube

  • I saw something on the Internet called Metropolis REDUX but the website that sells it looks everything but reliable. Is there any way to get a DVD copy of Giorgio Moroder's masterpiece?

  • @FlavioSousa35 Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis Redux is better than i could have imagined both in terms of the sound AND the image quality. Exceptional ! ! ! ! ! ! I waited decades for a version like this.

  • oh damn . . i love it, i really love it ! D:

  • The Giorgio Moroder version is still the best.

  • wtf is this bullshit, why? this song ruins how great the original score was

  • "Original score?"

Hey numbnuts, Metropolis was originally a silent movie.

  • it had it's own musical score that was preformed by a live orchestra. Most silent movies where are accompanied by a live orchestra when shown. Numbnuts?

  • this 1984 version was very controversial and both Siskel and Ebert didn't like it. But, I liked it, they "restored" some scenes. Good songs on the soundtrack.

  • i think it turns the motion picture into a misinterpreted, lost, and unguided 80's noir music video. Which because of it's content was unavoidable i see. But it is romantic in it's own right.

  • I love Pat Benatar - kocham !!!

  • I love one by Kevin Saunder Hayes (Vox lumiere)...

    ♥♥♥

  • Wow........ Godess Pat......... Wow

  • Thank you for posting this clip...it's one of my favorite songs from Pat Benatar, and one of my favorite sci-fi films.

  • PrOdCult- If you don't believe anyone that this is Benatar, check out her demo version of Roy Orbinson's "Crying" It'll knock you on your ass! That version is on her '99 Synchronistic Wanderings Anthology, Disc 3, track 7.

  • PrOdCult- This IS Pat Benatar, she studied Opera at Julliard, then ditched it for Rock and Rock. Trust me, this is Benatar!

That's why she's she greatest singer! Opera and Rock go figure!

  • As per the second post. It's now been reformatted, digital music sound track, and on DVD. Gilchrist Anderson, Redux Metropolis , do a search on the web for him. You Tube won't allow me to post his web site.. (I have a copy and it's superb. He's also a really nice bloke.

Get a copy while they're still available.

  • This part in the film has the best version of Hears my Heart with lyrics and style not on the official soundtrack. Well done in uploading this quality of a classic of a classic.

  • Can't believe I'm being sucked in to this, but Metropolis CD back cover, song 2, 'Here's my Heart' Pat Benatar 4:54 1984

Here's My Heart produced by Neil Geraldo, Peter Coleman and GM.

    Lyrics Pete Bellotte.

    Must be a typo :)

  • Com'on...NOT PAT BENATAR...BAD NEWS! THIS IS NOT PATE BENATAR!!!!

  • It is you idiot

  • Oh! look who's idiot...come on...poors...

  • Fantastic!! Moroder's is the BEST! If you don't hear it your Tone deaf plain and simple! I understand wanting to preserve the origional version too. But I love this version the best. I saw it first time when I was 10 years old on a 35inch RCA IDTV through Klipsch horn speakers in full sony vhs HighFi surround sound back in 1992, and it was fantastic. Movie had a huge affect on me and scared me quite a bit too. Very auditorialy beautifull and disturbing depending on the scene.

  • This is true Blahbevava. I also saw this version of the film when I was 10 and had a morbid feel to it. The mix of archaic/new - old images and new music was extremely affecting. The oppression that the film's characters experienced was heightened in this way. I prefer films to be shown in an unedited and untampered way but Moroder's version was certainly a vast improvement on the 80-ish minute version with a unappealing jazz score that I saw years later.

  • This is awesome.

  • She's credited on the VHS version. Do you have anything to back up your claim outside of vulgarity?

  • I dont' need no one backup...i know benatar's work since 20 years to know her voice!!! shit!!

  • You are so wrong!

    It IS Pat Banatar!

For the Metropolis soundtrack it was rerecorded for CD, the original soundtrack we heard in the film (and on this youtube clip) was NEVER released! It's a shame as Pat's movie version is so much better than the boring album version.

So I have bad news for you: You might know Pat Benatar's work since 20 years but you do not know all of it...

  • I FELL IN LOVE with this version from the movie and was absolutely crestfallen to buy the CD and find something that was, albeit lovely Pat Benatar, but some lumpy dance version. Maybe we can hope and pray for THAT version to be released one day, in addition to the DVD??!

  • @Bpothik its being released on dvd soon only in region 1 though :(

  • @kallemick if you have a blu ray

  • @kallemick sorry I do not know how but I clicked post before I was finished, you can buy it on standard DVD as well from the 15th of this month from America, most people these days can play American movies. IT is all remastered too, so even on standard DVD it would be a great thing to have.

  • @heythanksbutnothanks So I can get this on DVD now???

  • @mrscry not yet but not long, it is being released on the 15th of this month, which I think is this coming Tuesday on blu ray and on DVD, but in America, you can get it from Ebay.com no problem, you can even pre order it there. I am looking forward to seeing the Moroder version on blu ray, I am really excited, I thought this would never be released on blu ray...thankfully I was wrong.

  • @heythanksbutnothanks I just read that it's only being released on Region 1... what does that mean? Is that a European thing that I can't get?

  • @mrscry I just checked you are from AMerica, so you should be able to get it no problem, it is actually a good feeling to know I am not the olny person who loves this version of this film, I think some big fans of Metropolis do not like the Moroder verison but that's down to some people not liking 80s music.

  • @mrscry Sorry another response, just wanted to say I have Rotwangs party extended on my channel if you wanted to hear it, I am going to upload obsession and the workers dance soon as well....both taken from Moroders version of Metropolis.

  • @heythanksbutnothanks I don't see Rotwangs party on your channel... can you guide me?

  • @Bpothik Same thing happened to me a long time ago, not so good the one on the CD, it is ok tho, but I uploaded the version at the end of the movie, as that is like the whole song that is just so good compared to the one on the CD. But like someone else said it is being released on blu ray and also standard DVD in America, which is no prob if you have a blu ray or a standard DVD player on yuor pc, just download dvdfab passcode key, it still plays any region on both even when it expires.

  • @heythanksbutnothanks This is hands down the best love song of all time and, ironically, sung by a woman who never had a good song in her career. Giorgio brought out the beauty in Pat Benatar for the first and only time.

  • @mrscry Totally agree every time I listen to the version at the end of Metropolis, I always get the same feeling, it never dies....that is great music and a beautiful song,

  • @heythanksbutnothanks I love all three versions in the movie... but, man, the version on the soundtrack is really lame... I don't know why they rerecorded all the songs for the soundtrack.

  • @Bpothik sorrry it is called DVDfab passkey, not passcode key, it is a free trial but like I said when it expires you can still play any region DVD or blu ray...when you buy it, you just get a thing that removes copy protection...I think it is brilliant software, so if you bought Metropolis form America even standard DVd, you could listen to al this on 5.1 digital, or HD audio if you have the blu ray...I can't wait.

  • @Bpothik You are correct about the official soundtrack...the film version of this Pat Benatar song is beautiful, and the soundtrack's rerecording isn't moving at all. The soundtrack also ruined a few other of this film's songs. It's a sin that there's no DVD for this version of the film. Moroder's best work is on here.

  • @Bpothik I so agree! One of the first films I ever saw in my life, and still one of my favorites.

  • @Starglance I am so glad I found this YouTube page, because I thought I was literally the only one in the world who was disgusted by the official soundtrack that was released.

  • @mrscry

    I know what you mean!

Let me assure you, if you search a bit in the internet there is a 2CD-version of the REAL soundtrack wich you can not buy but download. AND: This one features the original versions we know from the movie, not this unfamous CD-version wich was released ;-)

  • My gripe about the Giorgio Moroder version of Metropolis is that it does not do justice with regard to Friz Lang's original screenplay at all. This version claims to have used the original script and novel by Thea von Harbou to recreate Metropolis as closely to the original as possible, and it didn't. This version was not even close to it. I like the songs and some other things that were done here, but the reediting and writing recreates Metropolis into something else, apart from Lang's vision.

  • You must use torrent´s to download a dvd version. I already have it and it looks great and sounds wonderfull.

  • The whole, uncut movie has been discovered in Argentina! They hope to restore it and show it in theaters.

But for now, this remains my favorite version of the movie, with Patti's song being my favorite tune.

  • Read that the restored full version will most likely be completed sometime in 2010. They'll use the original 1927 soundtrack for that one. I think I have the Moroder version on a VHS tape somewhere - I need to find it - I'm another that hopes that at some point this version makes it to DVD as well.

  • It was only released on DVD in Greece. I had a copy, but sold it.

  • i was able to find a torrent of the Moroder version recently after an evening of searching, its great

  • @dimarioso , please tell me the torrent i love this movie with the moroder soundtrack :) but i have been searching for a torrent and just cant find any good ones :(

  • Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU! I've been a HUGE fan of Moroder's version of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." I have a VHS of the movie, and I hope someday it will be released on DVD. Here's to wishing!

  • THANK YOU for this incredible clip...Giorgio Moroder is an unsung genius and his interpretation of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" remains one of the most defining moments in 80s cinema. I hope that the tangle of music rights issues no doubt involved in bringing this movie to DVD will be solved so that we can all enjoy this, complete and in the best possible quality!

In the meantime....a BIG thank you!!!!

  • Stunning.

Thanks for posting this. I have the original Video. Why won't they put it on DVD?

    A classic.

  • It's because the VHS and the lasersdisc rights were by Vestron video. Vestron disappeared from the market over the years and nobody knows where the copyrights remained. So they are not allowed to press it on DVD.

    It's a shame really!

  • @Starglance And sadly, Moroder's version most likely never see a re-release in any format. Kino International owns the rights, and there's no way they're going to let Moroder's version get released again. Which is a real shame, because if it hadn't been for his version, we might not have the complete version we have today. His was the first serious stab anyone ever took at restoring "Metropolis" to what Fritz Lang had in mind.

  • @cubdukat

NO NO, Kino International only holds the rights for the "silent" original black and white version wich was found in Germany's archchives. The rights of Moroder's version were held by Vestron, but Vestron went out of business and no one knows where the rights are now or who owns them now :-(

That means that even Kino International is not able to release the Moroder version...

  • @Starglance Really? I thought Kino owned the rights to everything "Metropolis."

It'd be worth checking out. There's no reason why the two versions can't co-exist; after all, the Kino version sorta owes its existence to Moroder's version. It's like I said; he started the restoration ball rolling, and I don't think many give him enough credit for that.

  • @cubdukat I ended up paying close to $50.00 for a VHS copy from Amazon. Totally worth it.

  • @BassPlayerSusan NO WAY! I just picked one up in a charity shop for £1, and that was with 2 other VHS.

  • This movie is now on DVD..Redux by GIlchrist Anderson..just enter into search engine.

  • Yep, I ordered it yesterday.

It looks like he has done a great job for a privateer, and at this stage, it's the closest we will get to a formal DVD transfer. I went to post the link here yesterday, but the You Tube Spam software wont allow it.

    Best wishes all.

  • Great song, great film!
