This is actually an Okinawan song and not Japanese. It came from the Ryukyu Islands which is also called Okinawa. Look at the kimono they are wearing. Very different from the ones they wear in Japan. Also the music is played with a sanshin and has a different sound than the shamisen.
@Deepsky1A1B Neat, I bet that was about the same time we lived in Hawaii and I remember my dad, also a Marine, always playing this song. I loved this song ever since childhood. My mother is Japanese. I guess that makes me half-Japanese, half-Marine LOL :)
This is my mom's favorite Enka song. Remember it well as a kid, and even now (had to get mom Akemi's 4 song maxi-cd that was released last year, too). Thanks for the video!
I have loved this song ever since I was a little girl. My Japanese mother had the original album and my father played it all the time. At least beginning 40 yrs ago. Takes me way back.....
Beautiful song, however I like the Aoe Mina version a bit more. It's much slower paced and she performs it in her hauntingly husky voice. Thanks for the upload!
