  • Well for all of you wondering, I originally pronounced the dragon's name like "fog" with an "s", but then viewers said I was saying it wrong, so I changed it to "sm-awg". And now people are still insisting that it's more like the fog-sounding pronunciation (: This just proves the point that there are many different pronunciations. And for the record, I have read Tolkien's appendices on pronunciation (:

  • @rebekahH5 Great video Rebekah! And I loved the attention to pronunciation. Only in the USA do people say 'Smog'. Fantastic to hear you pronounce it the correct way! In the UK we (mostly) say Tolk-en rather than Tolk-i-en or Tolk-een. As for Benedict Cumberbatch, it is brilliant to hear he'll be in the movie (just hope the rumour is correct) - fantastic voice, in the mould of Alan Rickman so I'm sure he'd be perfect for SmAUg!!

  • @rebekahH5 We'll take your word for it. I never took the time to learn how to accurately pronounce the names and places so probably "butchered" most of them with my "American" tongue ;)

  • @rebekahH5 Your so darn cute. As long as your understood, it doesn't really matter. Have fun with it, say it in as many different accents as you can. The "Southern" one made me laugh. Remember, you can't please 'em all so have fun. Keep it up, your fun to watch.

  • @rebekahH5 Apparently, you're one of the few who has read the appendices, judging by the comments from people telling you you're mispronouncing words that you're pronouncing just as Tolkien says you should - and, in the case of Smaug - just how it will be pronounced in the films. (By the way, the Silmarillion has an additional pronunciation guide.)

  • its pronounced smorg not smowg ;)

  • How very pretty she is and a fan of Tolkien as well... These clips are great...Looking forward to the Hobbit...

  • I love the end when they are talking about pronunciation.......its incredibly ironic considering how she butchered smaug's name in this episode. (It's like Fog with an S)

I wonder if the crew are intentionally letting her mispronounce the people, places and things (basically all the nouns) in Tolkiens work.....or if that many people really dont know how to correctly pronounce things.

    Either way, it's hilarious.

  • @kmccarney88 Actually she pronounces Smaug perfectly in this episode. The pronunciation your describing is an American butchering. The 'au' is pronounced like the 'ow' in 'now'. Same goes for Sauron, by the way. He is not called Soron!

  • I love every second of these clips, and they're one of the highlights of each week, well at least as far as my youtube consumption goes, but the little outtakes and extras at the end are far and away some of the best moments. Rebekah... your charm and passion for this shines through so bright that it's staggering.

  • @skyzefawlun Yeah she's a dork, lol, and it shows she's having a great time.

  • @sirjared21 Dork is a term of endearment ;)

  • lol... it's pronounced "smog" not "smowg". XD

  • She is just adorable.

  • Aragorn Ass-Rider? O_o

  • Oh Rebekah, I love it when you talk Middle-earth dialects......hehe

  • TOLL-KEY-ENNN! ^_^

  • Haha, the ending is great :D

  • Hmmn...I've always thought Smaug was pronounced SMOG, not SMOUG. Now that I think about it, smog refers to "smoke" and "fog", which kind of goes hand in hand with a dragon. Who knows...good episode!

  • @sirjared21 I went for "Smawg". Don't know why, just what I immediately thought.

  • well they need to get SOMEONE to play Bard soon. if I remember correctly he had a pretty big part in the book.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch perhaps Bard the Bowman but would make an excellent King of the Elves of Mirkwood also.

  • We love Rebekah. You look aweesome! Thanks for the show :)

  • Good episode, gang. As I said on FB, Rebekah, don't let the pronunciation nitpickers bother you. Not one of them knows how Professer T. pronounced all these names himself. And for the record, most people I know (including me) pronounce it TOLL-kin or TOLL-kun (don't know if it's correct, but it's easy to say). Halfway between kin and kun, I suppose. Maybe someone from TORN should interview Christopher Tolkien and ask how *he* pronounces it.

  • Amazing i needed a LOTR up to date info

  • AND he was part of the crew of the Venture in King Kong!

  • Either him as Bard or Smaug would be fantastic imo - I love Bard and I think Benedict would do a fantastic job as the bowman.

  • it's Friday, Fryie-day, Fryie-day, gettin' down on Fryie-day

  • @Stomplebane dude that was just awarfull

  • Toekien !

  • I say it like she said is southern but i'm not southern I just thought that's how you say it

  • Hobbit in 5 rocks, the best way of starting a good weekend.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Love that background, Norm!

  • One thing's for sure, he's to tall to be a hobbit. I think he could be Bard. :)

  • woah, woah, woah, smaowg?

  • Love the Southern accent!

  • The "Sherlock" buddies are together. This can only be a good omen :P

  • @geert421 I second this

  • Once again a new good episode! Today is Christopher Lee's Birthday!

  • I love your show keep up the good work :)

  • You seem like a really nice person but please learn pronounciation. Its Cum-ber-batch not patch, no Middle Earthish involved there.

  • i wish i have a time maschine to watch this amazing Movie in 2012

    Waiting is a torture , is n it ?^^

  • THIS IS NOT HOBBIT IN 5 ITS IN 6 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ;)

  • That's the most hilarious Lego shirt ever lol!

  • There' only 1 person perfect enough for the voice of Smaug. Ron Pearlman!

  • @Smithfilmproductions Ron Perlman is so lame!! Lol even Vin Diesel would do a better job voicing the great and unequaled dragon Smaug then that old & uninspiring Ron Perlman would. Sorry. =P

  • GEEZUS How many times does she say "onering.net" AGGGGGG

  • And here I thought it was Tol-ki-en. What do I know?

  • I am that one person...pleased ;)

  • I don't know, I can't see Cumberbatch as Bard. Probably just a minor character from Laketown.

  • @cky4eva agreed.

  • 5th

  • Cumberbatch = awesomeness :D

  • first :D

  • first comment woop! love the show, keep up the good work!x
