So many segments have been put on YouTube over the last 5years, 5 years of being reacquainted with things that were just memories for a long time. Memories ranging from crystal clear to foggy.
In my case, this was the last specific thing left I had been wondering if someone would put up someday. Now I see it's been up for over a year and I didn't know it.
So! Looks like my "searching days" are now over, LOL. Any "Oh, right! THIS thing!" moments from now on will be accidental. X)
Ah, no helmets. No elbow pads or knee pads. No safety police. The camera man was probably smoking a cigarette. They probably catered cheeseburgers and fries to the kids to eat. When the kids fell, they were probably told, "come on, get up. Not good enough. Try harder 'til you get that spin right." They probably did it all day and never bored, complained about the heat, or needed an electronic gizmo to cope.
And, besides all that, they were probably measurably happier than kids today.
Sesame Workshop staff, if you read this, how about airing more sketches like this? Kids become more humane that way, but not from the poppycock you air on Sesame Street today! Jim Henson wouldn't have approved of the present-day stuff!
I've been looking for the clip where a boy puts on his pajamas, goes to bed with his teddy bear, and dreams about his day, and the teddy bear winks at the end. Does anyone have that one or know where I can find it? It might have been from Canadian Sesame Street, so someone who lives in Canada (as I do) might know about it or remember it.
I haven't seen this in years. The roller skates in this film I don't believe they make anymore now that roller blades have taken over. This film shows how important it is for people to help each other. The way those kids come and help that little boy roller skate instead of laughing at him is so nice.
If this sketch aired on Sesame Street today, do you think it would inspire kids to help others, or would they just wonder "what the heck are those", referring to the rollerskates? Hopefully the former!
Kids look pretty sloppy these days. I especially don't like untucked button shirts unless they're made for wearing out. If kids like to wear their shirts out, WHY do parents still get them shirts with shirttails?
I was hoping someone would find this clip! I have not seen this clip for the longest time! I just turned 34. If anyone can find the clip about a group of kids in a city neighborhood. The ending has them eating Italian ices. Also a clip that takes place on a farm with a farmer, cows, and calves.
I think I know the first film you're looking for. Is this it?

Personally, I think that one-minute film is one of the most incredibly evocative representations of "summer" ever made. And my summers as a country kid weren't even like that at all! That's how powerful I find it.
I've always loved the music to this segment. By the way, does anybody know what the tune is called? I once heard it on another film and I like to call it the "Recreation Rag" because of its resemblance to Scott Joplin's piano rags.
This is going to make Deanmo23 very happy. BTW, I remember seeing this with Prarie Dawn popping up on the screen and says "WOW! Roller Skates!.....I wish I had a pair of those right now." As she was being chase by Little Bo Peep's sheeps.
Wow.

I remember this! They still aired it when I watched Sesame Street (1988-1995).

Wasn't this filmed in Poughkeepsie, New York across the street from Dutchess Community College?

It's a pity that roller skating kinda went out of style (and I don't mean rollerblading) back in the late 80s and early 90s..

Thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for that sketch. I think it's really sweet how those kids help that kid to rollerskate.

Must be from 1978.

@Deanmo23 That's why I'm guessing that this was from the mid to late 1970s.
