i had the blessing of seeing her perform at Sharon Baptist Church here in Philadelphia and OMG, what a voice. When I first seen her on TV I laughed at her facial expressions and thought she was joking until my brother purchased her CD. Since then is one of my most favorite artists. Would love to do a duet with her!!
What do you want to know, that song at the beginning, and maybe all the way through - as i am still listening to it, is "I can explain" from the individuality cd but at least one of the clips is from the live in montreaux cd.
Segment 5:45 made me laugh because the sound she made. Alot of sounds she makes will crack you up. But she is deffinately talented and has fully mastered her whistle register. If i am not mistaken she may have the worlds longest notes. She just about has the same range as mariah.
If u ever listen 2 Minnie in the 60s with the Rotary Connection, esp. their live album, u'll find Minnie hitting these high pitched trilled note Rachelle is hitting. Minnie just didn't get recognition. Minnie is a completely different. Rachelle works more on her voice. Minnie was more of a natural. Rachelle hits more 7th octave notes, which is not deemed musical in opera, but is impressive.
Like they say in churchL You Betta Sang Rachelle!!!!
Gee, I could throw a napkin at her! WOW-Now, that's talent. She uses her voice as an instrument. You go girl! She got me excited over here...MAN, that's incredible.
i love rachelle, but she cant beat all the legends,he voice is strong ,and her tone is attractive...but she still aint no Minnie Riperton,it sounds like when she goes into the octaves,it doesent sound natural,it sounds forced
Yes actually I do...and why is it crazy? Crazy because it's a different way than you think? Minnie is a legend for a reason. Rachelle is still my girl but when it comes to a high note give me Minnie any day over ANY singer!
I don't think it has to be a whistle register to break a glass with the voice. It has to be the right pitch and has to be perfect enough to break the glass.
It's appears its no myth and has been done on camera too, and the note is not even usually that high, but there isn't one note because each glass varies in the note/resonance that will break it, so people usually sing a range of notes close to what they expect to be the breaking note. But volume is important too
Watta Singer!!!!!! Very great..first i am not really crazy bout her..i dont even hear her whistles..ive been searching or this all the time but i found nothing..thankzz a lot whoever upload this..im really crazy about her ryt now...Hoo!!
Actually some of them yes, I am not a woman or a soprano so I could not go as high as one but I got a wide range. If you actually are curious to hear I got songs of my own.
this the most slept on artist i promise you

Mariah who - I know you aren't saying Mariah Carey.
Naah - noone would try that. Shoot, you might as well compare her to Beyon... I can't even finish it's such a ridiculous notion.
ajeff710 2 years ago 5
@bisexualbuffthug She has a wider range than Mariah.

Nope Minnie did the high notes with so little effort...it's a beauty in her voice but I do love Rachelle.
MrStyle 4 years ago
oh really? so you think rachelle puts so much effort in hitting high notes? how crazy.
adantra2 4 years ago

i don't agree with you. rachelle ferrell hits super high notes effortlessly...sorry. she's the best...^^
adantra2 4 years ago
well... that's true. Minnie was better at high notes, but Rachelle's more versatile. Loud, soft, high, low... perfection.

adantra2 4 years ago

I think minnie would have thought Rachelle was better.
What note does it take to break a glass? or is that a myth.

That is b/c she intentionally bends the pitch.

I realize that now, the inflections in blues and jazz, cool.

This is funny. Rachelle is certainly no joke. I am looking forward to seeing her in 2 weeks at The Blue Note.
