It's too bad that only hardcore strength types see these videos, because so many of the basic lessons/philosophies that Elliot teaches apply to everything in life and almost everyone would do well to listen.
so whats the best way to b a personal trainer really?? cause you can get them online in a matter of months or go to school which i askd n they said for me to major in exercise science. what do u all think???
@drift7one ive been told to look into nsca, i have a bachelors degree...i dont even know where to begin. Is it jus an onlne course? I kind of wanted something hands on....
A question from a stay at home mother looking to get certified.
If a newly certified person needs a job, they typically need a cert that will be recognized in their state or the gym they hope to get employment. I have no tribe because I have not begun my career - I'm simply a person who enjoys training, teaching & needs a job!
My problem is I'm in one state but plan to relocate to another, so the question is - which cert if "universal" for landing a position?
@tkmaz I'm currently in the process of getting my certification. Before I bought the certification program though, I went to several gyms, (Gold's gym, Snap fitness, Devildog) and they all agreed that ACE fitness certs. are top of the line without getting a college degree in personal training. You need to go to all the gyms in your area and speak with their head trainer and see what kind of certifications they require; because as far as I know, there's no "universal" degree. I hope I helped.
@T4NKD13S3L If you don't have a passion for it, It means squat. I've seen guys who have all the certifications, but look like crap, out of shape saying they're training people. Bullcrap. If you're in it for the money too, you're selling yourself short ( But money counts ). If you don't have a passion for it, get out of the field and find something you like. I'd rather hire a guy who's fit, loves what he's doing and passionate around clients with an ISSA, than some bloke out of university.
Awesome man! It is good to hear a REAL training not trying to PUSH his own certs! I have been looking foa a cert to get. And have even test out 3 and pass easily from the SERIOUS research I have done over that past 10 years! I think the main thing is as you stated "CARING" and also are you going to misguide or injure someone. If you can do that....you are QUALIFED...regardless of which certs you do or don't have! L8R
I took the test a month ago and passed it. The toughest thing about the test is the possibility of more that one "right" answer. My advice, read the question carefully and find the most "right" answer and you should be fine. Good luck!
I agree with this completely E, as I was going to email you about this very topic or call you which ever came first! LOL Great way to touch on this and once again shedding light!

@tkmaz NACSM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) tends to be the most widely accepted cert.

this is true but at the same time those little letters next to your name help you find a job as as a personal trainer.

very encouraging! I'm taking my NSCA test on Monday and a little unsure about the outcome. You put things back into perspective for me. Thanks!

Hey 1970mozo. I'm taking the NSCA here soon after a 9 month personal trainer school. Did you pass? Was the test tough?

Good stuff. As long as you know and respect your craft, the letters don't mean much.
