His first point would save people maybe $5 per year. His second point makes no sense whatsoever; it would not stop health insurance companies from overcharging. And his third point catches his own party with its pants down.
None of his points even come close to rivaling the amount of reform a public option would provide.
Barriers to interstate commerce are unconstitutional anyway. The states are breaking the law every time they force you to buy insurance in that state.
Why fall back on something that late in presidency. In a hundred years we did not have bailouts when the market fell, and now suddenly in this new age we do. Why, and what good has it done us.
Newt, you need to help the Republicans currently in Congress. They are wimps, soft spoken and not leading. The tea party protestors and town hall participants are leading, and our reps are acting as if they're clueless and don't understand the growing public anger at all these ill conceived bills going through Congress.
Look thats a great point, but I actually prefer them to "republicans." Mitch McConnell is a terrible public speaker and that is the best part about him. What he is saying is exactly right. Meanwhile Bush said he would protect the borders, and then finally 3 years later sent the national guard there. He also sponsored the wall street bailout and tarp. To me, that is socialist. That is socialism President Bush, you are not a true conservative. Fail.
thats because the reps in congress are aprt of the problem, what you need is to cleanse your institutions from all entrenched influence, even if you agree with them, kick out the old and bring in the new
At this stage in the game I don't believe that I see anyone saying that reform isn't needed. Reform as in, fixing the current system, I believe is far different from a gov't controlled healthcare plan. Why not start with simple, one issue bills with straightforward targeting. For example... Why not allow health insurance to be bought across state lines. I think that would increase competition.
a wider, more competitive market would still drive the prices down in those cheap states when insurance companies experience a new wave of inexpensive policies. and please elaborate on what we should be aiming for in those already cheap states? health care is not going to be free, just cheaper and the private sector is going to be less expensive than government
How would eliminating restrictions on policies sold across state lines effect prices in the lowest cost states? I like the idea of policies being sold across state lines. There are several states with oligopolies. But I hear the argument that changing the law would have a diverse effect on those living in states with already inexpensive policies.

"Regulate Interstate Commerce" means to keep it *regular* - meaning the same rules ought to govern trade between any two states.

Wrong. Give it up.
