I'm not trying to play the blame game but, was it the layout of the track/wall that cause his death or the structure of the car? I guess i'm saying would the C.O.T have survived the impact?
@Carfire45 I don't think he would have survived even if he was in a COT. Look at how he broadsides the edge of that wall...the edge would have penetrated the COT that much too i think... quite the same problem as for Kubica's 2011 rally crash, the Fabia looked undamaged except the front end but the edge of the armco penetrated inside the car, nearly cutting his right hand... so even a safe car will be penetrated in that case. Cars are just NOT able to withstand such impacts...
@bzzerta26 NO car can handle an impact like this at that speed! You have to remember that the side of a car is the worst possible place to have a massive impact like this. Each time the speed is doubled, the kinetic energy is quadrupled. That would mean than an impact that generates 50G's at 100km/h would equal an impact at about 200G's when going 200km/h...
when things like that happen it ruins the entire race naturally, and sometimes the entire season. For example, I could never say that 2000 or 2001 were great seasons in nascar.
Don't pass the buck "this doesn't happen to US NASCARS" pffft same makes and models...10 NASCAR drivers have died since the last F1 driver...frankly this is what people over there want to see
Racetracks should not have protrusions like that. If there is any blame to this mans death here, it's lies soley on the designer of the track. RIP Senor Pardo.
@hectordng I just dont see how thats possible. I mean first off, the roll cage looks like it was made out of PVC pipe. Second off, Ive NEVER seen a US NASCAR disintegrate like that. Even the Mike Harmon/Michael Waltrip crashes, the cars didnt explode like a bomb. I have a hard time believing that NASCAR holds non-US entities to the same strict safety regulations as they do the top series. That wall is a GLARING safety hazard, it was basically waiting for a crash like that.
@snappy452 A friend of the college drives the car "49" and he explained me, and also his mechanical engineer who was a nascar bush driver, that the safety regulations for the car are the same, and also I have seen the car and we have test their parts in our labs and I can assure its not PVC.
The wall is an awful safety hazzard and a stupid desing mistake, there are only a few good tracks like the one of aguascalientes, but most of them arent as good as they need to be. (sorry for my english)
@hectordng Im sorry but I have problems believing that. There was a division in NASCAR called the Sportsman series. It was comprised of teams that bought old cars from Cup teams (some of these cars were show cars, which arent built with safety, or racing for that matter, in mind.) You might want to type in "Russell Phillips" and check out just how safe those cars are. NASCAR is not known for rigorous inspections/safety standards outside their top 3 series.
jbracer86 - Any car going into that wall at 120mph sideays wouldve reacted the same way. This type of accident is the worst nighmare for drivers. The concrete wall was thin and sharp edged. Unsurviveable.
I understand that the wall was put there bcuz that is normally part of the road course, but why have a wall there at all during oval races, and man these cars are way behind in safety technology these cars look as if they are from the 90s. Its really unfortunate.
Actually rollcage is almost the same of Nationwide series , but the car engine and body are crap. You can see that the cage was not cracked by the middle or dubbed in a half, it did its job, but survive to that....man
Ugly. Jorge (driver that turned Pablo) made a mistake forcing the issue on Pablo like that; however, you could say that Pablo tried to block and he made the mistake. My impression of this crash is that the real accident here is the placement of the wall.
Just an unfortunate turn of events. I feel shitty for both drivers. If I was Jorge I'd feel like it was my fault for sure.
wow verry verry poor dezined race track what were thay think with that wall thair in the first place i guss thay dident thik i ganrentee u tht wall will be diffrent next time

Indycar is the best example of racing technology! Nascar is only bumping and slaming cars on to the wall. The idea behind racing on single line is to take advantage of the suction on the car ahead. Besides, the best driver is the one that does not need any type of contact with other cars. If an Indycar touches for just a milisecond another car, is the most probably to hit the wall, thats why Indy drivers need more experience and accuracy than savage uncivilized Nascar drivers.
it may be the best example of racing technology, but it is not the best example of racing in general. high contact motorsports like stock car racing puts it more in the drivers hands, not how fast the car is. btw this is a mexican nascar video, not indycar.
@sprokyyo - Well were driving 200mph for 500 miles! 3400 pound stockcar, now thats hard! The cars here are from a lower series with little or none NASCAR and manufacture support. Anyways strange that the IRL only has Honda as a manufacture
@sprokyyo bullshit! it takes way more talent to drive a stock car than an indy car. dont you ever wonder why Indy or f1 drivers that join nascar never become a success in nascar? because it takes more talent to drive a stock car. look at Pablo montoya. he can only win at road courses and not ovals nad the only oval he does good at is the brickyard which is an indy track. and ur arguement is stupid. rubbing is racing. no indy driver could bump draft like a stock car driver
@Mr420woo Not for nothing F1 is called top category in racing. That´s why every driver that fails in F1 go for a chance in Nascar. And FYI Montoya never succeded in F1. Name one former Nascar driver that has even made it to F1. It´s no the same thing having skills for braking, cornering, overtaking and dealing with G forces, not to mention the milimetric calculations, than just stepping on the gas and trying to get the car ahead on to the wall... Thats more likely to be Destruction Derby!!
@Mr420woo Not true. You have to want it to win it. F1 / Indy / Nascar all take skill no one sport is better then another. Nascar isn't weight related, F1 is. In F1 you can break late into the corner, carry more speed pick up the throttle sooner. Do that in a Nascar, and you spin out, or crash. F1 can't take hits, Nascars can. Drivers stick to one sport because they love it. Those who switch don't do good because I think it's not truly in their heart. Your born to race one or the other.
@garf1eld029 Excellent comment. Very few drivers can cross from one to the other and find success. Mario Andretti is the one exception I can think of that had success in Stock cars, Indy and F1.
@Mr420woo lol you ain't seen much single-seat racing then?! might want to look up some vids of the hopeless attempts by NASCAR drivers to drive F1 cars...couldn't even last 10 laps before they were exhausted and complaining about sore necks...let alone being way off the pace

racing to me means the fastest car winning the race. Not the guy that is the best at knocking people out of the way and holding people up. Driving the car to its fullest against another car at its fullest, is racing. Nascar just wants viewers, they care nothing about the racing side of it, they want the fans to be happy so they can fill their pockets. I was a diehard fan of nascar, but all these rule changes making the sport more of a "show" is a joke. I like Indycar and Drag Racing better now.
you call Indycar a real race???!!!??? I laugh in your face! They run single file 95% of the time its like a highspeed fucking parade, Nascar has done well with the double file restarts, sending lapped cars to the back to stop slow cars from holding the field up, before you dis the rule changes, make sure you fully understand them first,,, Dumbass

That totally sucks.... RiP... This is why bumping and blocking shouldnt be tolerated in nascar. Dale Earnhardts crash was just like this, he went down to block and turned himself, but he went into the outside wall instead, but the attempted block and nudge stuff causes this crap. Hope his family is doing okay.
This wreck still gives me chills. But it also makes me angry as well. What moron thought that wall being there wasn't a hazard?

There's could be couple of solutions to this entrance problem. But it's almost impossible to design more gentle sloping pit entrances.

It was very unfortunate that as his car turned there was a barrier that turned away from the road at the side.
