This case is pretty ironic, two of the scariest cities of cyclist are NY, NY and philly. One (in philly) even hit a woman and killed her, people who are astonished by this case might lose their lives if not looking out over here on the East coast. They're worse than the drivers!
I can understand where the Plaintiff is coming from. We always hear about how the parents are responsible for the damage their kids do. I don't think this man was being malicious, just going on what he understood to be true. He has a severely damaged bike, a kid that was responsible for the accident, and a parent that won't pay. I'd be as mad as the Plaintiff.
Parents are responsible for the behaviour of their children if their children acts maliciously or negligently ... not a silly mistake where both parties are at fault.
If the moron Plantiff wants to treat this BICYCLE accident like a car accident, then fine. His daughter REAR ENDED the Defendant's son. Therefore, she is at fault. Note: I don't actually believe it was anyone's fault, It was an ACCIDENT. The Plantiff just needs to STFU and pay for his own bike.
@TabbyAngel2 The 'old witch' got a TV show, is one of the most respectable family court judge, A very wise and experienced lady and not to forget a truth machine. Whats your identity?
the defendents should have counter sued for their bike. stupid plaintive thinking his daugher is all that and blaming other kids without their parents
I didn't understand how JJ was accusing the P of being negligent. You signal the person behind you, not in front of you. The D's kid was negligent because he didn't signal. to the P's behind him and just randomly swerved into the P.
But then JJ explained the 3yr old example; that kids that young can't be held financially responsible for these types of accidents because... well... they're kids! They're going to forget rules and cause accidents. It's up the grown ups to watch out for them.
Why so many people in JJ cases are "currently unemployed", "looking for a job" or "between jobs", and the people with a job they only have a few months or weeks with it.
this case is dumb... just because it was an accident, it doesnt mean no one is responsible. if a 12 year old accidently hit a baseball through my car window, you bet your ass his mother will be paying for it... even though it was an "accident" by a 12 year old.. someone's gotta pay for it and it sure wouldnt be me
The father knows is case is over so he insists on playing dumb only to make himself look two times as dumb as a sack of beans. Then calls his witness who is A SACK OF BEANS. His poor daughter is a frigid wife in training.
i like how JJ gets the father to describe how they overtook in the wrong lane children going less than half his speed without giving them any warning with a car dangerously close behind. what a fuckwit.
presumably he was shaking with rage after the incident as the kid was both black and not a mindreader.
@fume0ne I was just looking at that nice little fellow, and thinking how terrified he must have been when confronted by that big angry man. I just wish I were there to tell him, "Bless your little heart. Would you like for me to drag this fat bastard out of sight and kick his ass for you, son?" And dollars to donuts he'd say, "No, sir, but thank you for offering."
So you take the girl on a 35 mile training run, and buy her a 3000 dollar bicycle. You're obviously serious about cycling.
Cycling is one of the most accident-prone sports out there. Better get used to being bruised, and expensively having to repair/replace the equipment. That's kind of a built in thing with cycling.
I love cycling, so don't get me wrong, but blaming others for accidents is just dumb. Accidents will happen, no matter what.
To all those saying she made a wrong decision, I disagree. Clearly people are clogging up the courts with ridiculous claims. This is just a stupid claim. It sends a message not to waste her time.
either these folks are filled with helium and they're going to float into the stratosphere or it's all fat and they're going to fall through the floor; either way, i hope we see it in part 2.
@jimmysudar HeeHee! I vote for the stratosphere option. That way should there be aliens lurking out there, they'll take one look at these bobble heads and leave good old Mother Earth the hell alone.

Judge Judy was very stupid in this case. Note to anyone watching: DON'T go to Judge Judy for car/bike accidents, because she's very ignorant on them. She must've had a retarded child or friend's child who got run over, or something.
"Whose fault would it be if a four year-old ran out in front of you and you killed them?"
The four year-old's retarded parents, actually, Judge Judy.
@nicolebmoviesFTW2 Judy is usually pretty spot on but I agree with you, she's not getting it right in this one. The plaintiff is probably lying in some aspects but still, if that little boy had thrown a rock through someone's window his mom would have to pay. So by cutting in front of the girl as she's passing he caused the problem.
@TheCurmudgen Exactly. Judge Judy almost never gets car-/bike-related cases right. I think she had a bad experience with an accident once, or one of her kids or grandchildren did, or something. She has to be thinking stupidly like this for a reason.
@TheCurmudgen 'throwing a rock' is an intentional action, not an accident...i think that is the point she was trying to make...w.r.t the 3 yr old who gets run over, I agree it wouldnt be the person's fault COMPLETELY, but he is still responsible to an extent IF he was going too fast...
but these kind of cases are confusing for those of us who are unaware of the local laws...
