@unweirdly because the politicians don't address directly how companies in America only have one purpose. to fleece the American people for as much money as possible. this was not possible when the Government was first formed because there where laws in place that made companies provide a "public good". I'd like you to do more videos that have to do with all of this persistent misinformation there is out there about food and product safety and such. People really think that everything is poison, food is poison, etc. I was talking to someone recently who was talking about how all our food as these additives, aspartame, etc., but he overlooks the very thing that is known to be problematic and that's good old salt....Just as an example.
The whole idea of bipartisanship is somewhat confusing to me... China is giving hundreds of billions in subsidies to multinational corporations to move factories from the U.S. and other countries and locate them in China. For example, Evergreen Solar announced last week that it will close its solar cell factory in Massachusetts, which opened in 2008 with $43 million in state subsidies
. Chinese banks offered Evergreen financing for two-thirds of the cost of its new plant at rates "as low as 4.8 percent" with no principal payments or interest payments due until the end of the loan in 2015. Even cheap labor is beside the point. United States clean energy loan guarantees can't compete with the Chinese loan subsidies.
Multinational corporations are responsible for outsourcing millions of U.S. jobs. What's good for their corporate profits (and executive pay) often conflicts with the national interest of the United States to maximize job creation and production in this country.
Our exports to China did increase rapidly last year -- by about $23 billion, and this did support job creation. But imports increased about three times as fast, by $71 billion, which cost the U.S. many more jobs than exports supported. On balance, the growth in our trade deficit with China cost the United States at least a half million jobs in 2010. We have huge trade deficits with China because of massive currency manipulation and many other unfair trade practices.
Lee, I don't know if you're subscribed to the Vlogbrothers, but John did a response to Hank's video, and I think it's worth watching if you're going to respond to Hank.
I just want to tell you how good you are at what your doing by saying most your videos are about the USA and i'm from Australia but yet I still watch all your videos.
Our political climate has become incredibly juvenile. Who is sitting next to whom? And what passes for news is nothing but adolescent speculation. In addition, the State of the Union address has become nothing more than a partisan infomercial. Puleeeze!
The democrats are going to be positioning the repeal of Obama care as the loss of benfits, namely the closing of the doughnut hole. The deal Big Pharma stuck with Obama allows Pharma to extend patent protections, restricts negotiated pricing under medicare/aide and restrict importation. In exchange, big pharma temporarily covers the costs of closing the hole and spent millions publicly supporting the legislation. Restricting consumer choice and manipulating markets to win the political victory.
good vid, idk how many of my buds keep on talking about the significance of the SOTU. be it a republican or dem in office, what matters is the actions that the policy maker takes up and acts upon. anyone can give a persuasive speech and hire a good speech writer, never the less, even though i disagree with barrack's policies, ill give him his due as a highly skilled speaker
i just saw the story of electronics and the story of water bottles and i believe it just killed 10000 of my brain cells because of how dumb the person in it is
Lee, I have always liked your commentary....conservative, intelligent, coherent....in fact, if you were a liberal, I'd probably give what you say some weight since you present it so well.
I would like to hear your commentary in general on Ryan's Roadmap, specifically instituting vouchers for Medicare and private accounts for Social Security. Keep up the great work.
Last night Obama seemed to prove he could talk some of the talk(or at least read it off his teleprompters). Can he walk the walk without the support of behind-the-scenes puppetteers?
my topic request: the absurdity of polls after an obama speech. only minutes after the speech several news programs were reporting approval rates of 98% !?! come on - do you agree that polls in general are bias spin and the polls for obama are even more of a joke?
...lets do what the president said last night, make this country the best of the best. We can use some of his idea's investing in the right places (not just throwing money at but inspire competition for the money) then cut spending in other area's, defense, no earmarks, ect. Life long republican saying we need start giving an inch to work with the President to get something done.
Lee, I have been watching your video's religiously for the past year or so. I love your work and I think 99% of the time you are right one, I agree with your economic perspective ect. That being said I think you are following in a long line of pundits that have nothing positive to say about the President. Like you are following party lines so you don't upset your base. You have a unique opportunity to be the voice of reason in the Republican party and step towards working with the Dems....
@adamtipre what do you expect lee or anyone else for that matter to say about obama? i can not think of one thing positive about this president yet you expect lee and others on the right to say something positive just because? how many positive things did you or others from the left say about president bush?!
@betty4gators I'm with you Betty, but we can't seriously think that Obama is unamerican, socialist, birther ect. I would prefer Healthcare not going thru, and a republican in the white house, and to cut spending (stimulus and otherwise). Time to work together. Also, Credit card regulations, insurance companies declining patients for preexisting conditions, I could go on. All good things Obama has done. Lets tone down the rhetoric just because we don't like one policy vs. thousands.
Obama has a cut and paste agenda its been done in other countries like the third world its been done before blah blah blah and they say they can do it better then the other country. Oh the last State of the Union the democrats locked the Republicans out and now they want unity the is just Bull. If I remember he told the republicans to sit in the back.
Christine o'donnell said the State of the Union address was hypocritical. Can you help to elaborate more on what she was saying & tell us whether you agree or disagree & why?
Hi Lee,you are doing a great job. Why not make a video about the possibility of you running for Congress where you could ask for feedback from your viewers about it.
Like someone said.. nothing happens till something moves.
Please cover public law 108-447 section 111. It requires the military to issue constitutions to new servicemen (and they currently don't). It also requires that September 17th every school that gets public funding has to teach about the Constitution. It's a good example for your audience of what happens to specific laws. Too many and they don't get enforced.
Talk about the absurdity of the lack-of news coverage over the 2011 March for Life. This event continues to grow, and the issue is constantly getting more controversial. Maybe you have reservations about covering this issue, but I'm just saying it should be covered - truthfully. Respect for human life is an essential element of SOCIETY. If it's true that a fetus is human life, do a google search for "abortion statistics 2011" and look at table 99 on census.gov and see how we respect life.
I want to know what you think about free trade. Me personaly I don't like it I lost my job to it . What I use to do is now in Mexico alot of companys went south of the border just want to hear what you have to say.
Actions speak louder than words. It was almost comical when he said that we are to now take responsibity for the debt I could almost hear him think it's all Bushs fault everythings his fault yeah right responsiblity. To quote Princess Bride, you keep using that word I don't think it means what you think it means. He says about responsiblity but then he asks for more money for green jobs eventhough it failed the last time.
The snippets that I heard, I actually liked. The problem is that he wasted two years and way too much money on bogus "stimulus" and Obamacare. Government spending is way out of control and there are no sacred cows. Education & Energy should be curtailed severely. Entitlements and the military moderately.
And like many people, I am tired of him calling spending "stimulus" or "investments". He is like my wife. He bought a $300 pair of shoes and claimes he saved money because it was 50% off.
We know that the cost of malpractice insurance is huge, and that's passed on to the consumer (assuming they're payin their medical bills) so lower the cost of malpractice insurance by prohibiting people who aren't paying from suing.
If you choose to get free healthcare you get what you get.
I saw Hanks Greens video. He wasn't being political. A lot of his subscribers decided to turn his rant into an argument for universal healthcare. I don't know why we need universal healthcare to set price controls on medication , but many of his subscribers were under the opinion that the only way to lower the cost of medication would be to give the government complete control of their healthcare. I just want to say , be careful with hank he really didn't make an argument.
@HowTheWorldWorks Lee I'd like to hear you talk about North and south Korea. Mainly wtf North Korea is thinking attacking South Korea's navy and bombarding that island.. I don't see that helping them, in fact its plain stupid. South Korea would most likely stomp the North in a war. As good of a topic as any I'd say.
@HowTheWorldWorks Ok, well now John posted his video response. :) So I have to retract my comment. Always enjoy watching you Lee. Thanks for responding to my comment.
@MikeTMerciless Oke so I deerve too be bullied becaus I have a diferent opinion?????? Or because I have good argiments or don`t rtry to unfaiely take the credired away from a man who worled etremely hard on his live long dream, I am fisgusted by youe use of propoganda and nionlogic too bully others and take credited away from a great mmn like Lucas, and how you sdon`yt keep ya promises, so if you are a Cathlic, I sadvice you pray for forgiveness for dishonesty!!!!!!!
I wanna hear something on religion. Not politically like you're used to, but just what you believe and why. I think it would show a new dimension of you. That and possibly open up an awful can of flesh eating worms... You know, maybe you shouldn't...
Did the Republican response say that competition and innovation are bad things? I don't know about innovation, but I thought that Republican like competition.
Well said, . . . it is boring; but, . . . the thing which you have to factor in is that, they prefer that, American people, . . . "think boorishly and boringly", . . . it's just a tacit admission of how unutterably, . . . well, our politicians need prayer, . . . sad cases, . . . but then, the people keep on re-electing them, so, you know, . . . there we have it, . . .
I just want to say one thing after watching the State of the Union, that is "Triangulation" it's the hail marry right out of old slick willy Clintons play book.

LEE: When doing your video responses, just take your time my friend. I enjoy your longer videos (e.g. your responses to the Young Turds & the Fox news study) that are permeated with information. TOPIC: RIght-to-work laws versus forced unionization.
Why are they sitting together? Because it looks better and to democrats thought process the way things look and the intention are more important than things actually working.
I'm pretty sure we'll know the democrat and republican reactions to the points in the speech despite the mixed seating - their party platforms are obvious cliches at this point.
I don't know if this is serious enough of an issue, but I wanted to know your opinion on the whole boycott of CPAC because of its invitation to GOProud to attend the event. I know that the Heritage Foundation refused to go as well as Tim Pawlenty, and I just wanted to know your opinion of that and whether or not their argument has any merit. Thank you.
I think its great Obama started a commission to identify all the regulations that hurt businesses. If he is serious about it, he is going to try hard to push back the last 2 years including the healthcare bill. Lets hope he commits.
The true advantage of the Capitalist system, or Free Market, is the most simple method of voting ever invented.
You don't like it? You don't buy it.
If Anyone doesn't like a Deal they can just not do business.
In a Regulated Market the controls set up don't allow the Free Market to function, it removes the chance for the consumer to demand a better Deal by forcing the same consumer to invest in businesses that can't sell their products to the very people paying all the bills.
@americanbandwidth You just described American crony capitalism a la Jeff Immelt brand that has captured the executive branch to suppress innovation and competition and also simultaneously squeeze the tax payer to maintain the MIC. In fact this is no new thing, crony capitalism has been a favorite past time of big conglomerates for greater than a century. One of the main reasons to be a cronyist is to suppress innovation by smaller competitors that may put them out of business.
@americanbandwidth Simple? Well...only if you simplify it like that. It's more like, "You don't like it? You don't buy it. You do like it? You don't buy it. Instead, go download it off the Internet for free illegally."
@smiledammit24 Except that downloading it illegally is not a legitimate option, just as any form of theft is not.
If you don't like the person's product or price, you don't just get to take that product without paying them for it. You just don't get the product, period.
@Supermassively Except it's not theft. Theft means you take something that another directly loses. But if you copy something another has made for your own use, they have lost nothing. tl;dr Intellectual Property is a ridiculous assertion
Then you figure out what you can give up for what you truly need. Demanding someone else help pay for something just because you need it is rather selfish.
@ismdism Then start your own business and offer the item yourself at a price you believe to be worth the time and effort.
The free market rewards the risk taker. Nothing motivates a person more than knowing you get a reward for your work.
That is why most great inventions in the last 150 years have come from the USA, The inventors came here to get paid instead of staying where they were and allowing the government to take their ideas and make all the money from it.
@americanbandwidth Right but if you can't afford this product I doubt you would have enough money to start a business to sell this product. I agree that the free market is a good thing, but I think it can use some tweaks in certain areas and is not something that solves all problems.
Except for there being just one tiny problem with that. Namely, nothing in the world solves all problems. Just because something isn't fair isn't a reason to change things tho. Life isn't fair. There's no change you can do to political or economic policy that will keep an earthquake from destroying your home and your family. Nature is unfair.
Forced altruism is theft. Why not simply ask for help? From charities or causes?
@AdamaGeist You are right nothing solves all problems. Though it is possible to try and find a way to solve the most problems. If we always thought that what we had is the best and held onto the idea, just because things aren't fair doesn't mean we should change, we would have never discovered a free market.
I'm guessing the vlogbrothers video your talking about is the one about how the cost of his meds went up? anyway I look forward to it I like both your channels so it should be good.
Lee, You wanted a suggestion so I will make one. I think the only thing that will change the ever present disasterous course we are on, is a state's called Article V convention to amend the constitution. Specifically, redefine the commerce clause, define the requirement that the federeal government must adhere to the constitution, and of course the perenially favorite balanced budget amendment. How about discussing what it is for your readers, and your opinions about it. Thanks!
Lee, one problem I see with most commentators is they criticize, but very few offer any real ideas of there own. It's much easier for people to agree against an idea rather than agree on one. That said, I would like to see some real ideas presented from you on your channel. If you were king of these United States, what ideas would you implement?
@scrappmutt2 Lee presents the current happenings and gives perspective. He doesn't proclaim to have all the answers. He makes people who claim to have the answers and WANT to be "king of the US" answer to their promises. Keep it up, Lee!
@WWCons So does everyone else (Beck, Rush). Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about what they do, they do a good job, but if conservatives truly want to win in the arena of ideas, they have to present their ideas as well. Other than Neil Bortz and the fair tax, I don't hear much of their ideas, and I listen to all daily. I say "King of the US" to get to the heart of what a person believes. Essentially if you had to write the constitution by yourself, what would be in it?
@scrappmutt2 They do have ideas; LOTS of them. They have discussed them for years and pray to God that they present and implement them. They were addressed at the microphone in congress for the past 4 years and ignored. Hopefully that will not be the case going forward. The representatives were elected by angry voters to whom they are held accountable. My own constitution? That's a lot for a small space here, but a very good constitution we have is the one being trampled upon daily.
@WWCons I got an email about the "Congressional Reform Act of 2011" yesterday. It was a load of dribble with it's heart in the right place. But loads of dribble is what we get when the smart guys with large voices, such as Lee, do not present their ideas. We need to know what good ideas are out there and so we can debate them and if they are acceptable, we can push our representatives to implement them.
Try a property rights video. A year ago I saw Yaron Brook (Ayn Rand Institute) speak at the UW, and like in your comments to kylec2000x, he stated the importance of property rights. Yaron pointed out how property laws have evolved, and how it's one of the few things that govt should handle. Ex: Suppose an AZ farmer decides to dump chemicals in a stream (for profit, of course,) resulting in the crops of other profit-seekers downstream of his farm to die. With revised laws, he's legally liable.
@admiralbullshit I'm suggesting this simply because most people can't seem to grasp this simple idea, and blame cases where the freedom of "property rights" doesn't exist on "greed" and capitalism. Someone used the example of an African country where a village was forcibly razed to make way for some company's railroad project. The reality (and counter-argument) of the situation was that the govt of the country couldn't give two Arbys french dips about the property or well-being of its citizens.
Topic Suggestion: Any evidence of the growth of black market/informal market activities as a result of increased government regulations and taxes? When are entrepreneurs going to say "to hell with you" and go underground?
I have a few neighbors that have made their businesses informal (they only take cash under the table) and are collecting unemployment because of new taxes and regs. I have no idea if this is a localized thing or if it is growing throughout the nation.
What is your position on abortion? Please give your best SECULAR argument for the side you choose. I am a libertarian (without conservative/liberal influences) but being a religious person it is hard to honestly justify the open practice of what might be murder.
Also concerning the seating of congresspersons at the speech, it is suppose to make the speech less politicized and bitter, at least in theory.
You're citing a lack of private property rights enforcement. In all those instances, you're citing the polluting of public property. Private property owners have the right to sue absent any regulations.
I would like to see a critique of the left wing propaganda movie called "The American Ruling Class" which I think would really help expose these people. They are so blatant about describing there perceived role in out society, they are delusional. Most concerning is the home grown video at the end promoting the fall of America. This movie has actual players in the political game, basically confessing indirectly.
the reason for the mixing of the senatorsduring the slight of the union address is so the OVERWHELMING ASSKICKING the dems took in november won't be so obvious.
Could you discuss the housing market (foreclosures and when they will level out) and the lack of construction jobs across the nation? I graduated with a masters in architecture and am going to have to leave the country to find work because there isn't enough construction (no residential building, very little commercial, and institutions are cutting back as well). I hope I don't have to hear this response from China.
Ooh great example. But let me fix it for you, you seem to have it reversed:
Creationists/ Proponents of Command Economies: one entity with incredible power can, through top down management and control, create the incredible complex world and society we live in
Austrians/ Evolutionists: our complex and intricate world was created through spontaneous order from the ground up through an untold amount of entities interacting with each other
Your analogy fails. Austrian economists believe intelligent human action created a complex economic world. Exactly what intelligent actors guided evolution? Biology teachers everywhere are wailing an gnashing their teeth at your ignorance. And, of course, a command economy COULD ACTUALLY work if it were guided by an all-knowing deity. That's the very reason command economies (and central banking) will always ultimately fail... They are not overseen by omniscient beings.
Anyway you can make a video discussing American Federalism, and what some are calling a present day "flash point" relating to states struggling to preserve their rights while the federal government appears to be creeping on on these rights? This struggle seems to ebb and flow throughout history, but it does appear we are living at a critical point in history- perhaps even more so than other "flash points" between states and the federal government.
That's the point. You won't be able to hold any establishment folks responsible and it looks like more people will agree with the Pres. Also, peer pressure. You're more likely to applaud if the person next to you is as well.
Excited?? What's the use in listening to yet another speech..when he opens his mouth lies come out. This is merely his attempt to deceive the American people..
ELECTION 2012..he is attempting to appear as though he is moving to the center in order to get re-elected but I predict he is a ONE TERM guy..you can fool the people once but it's hard to fool the people twice.
I'd be interested in hearing where you stand on Government control of roads, and the fact that they get to say who can and cannot drive on them, etc. (I've done a little research on this historically, so I have my own opinions, and they're fairly strong, but I'd love to hear yours; you're so good with words.)
Lee, could you give your thoughts on who you are looking to support for President in 2012. I know it's early, and nobody's announced they're running yet, but what candidates are you thinking of or hoping to support?
I'd like to hear your opinion on Donald Trump, and how he's thinking about running for president, along with how he wants to raise taxes on Chinese imports to about 25%, and how he suggested that South Korea should pay America for defending them. It might be a little too early though, because it's looking like he won't give an absolute answer on running until about June.
Lee so many of your viewers believe in the OLD classical view of economics (the one generally accepted among scholars before Keynes) or they believe in the Austrian school of economics.
The commonly accepted view of economics today, among scholars, is the neo classical view (think of it as a synthesis between the old classical view and Keynes)
So many people here distrust the Fed and Gov. try explaining the concept of a public good or a positive externality or the Coase theorem to the dummies

China is giving hundreds of billions in subsidies to multinational corporations to move factories from the U.S. and other countries and locate them in China. For example, Evergreen Solar announced last week that it will close its solar cell factory in Massachusetts, which opened in 2008 with $43 million in state subsidies
stimulater7 1 year ago

Life long republican saying we need start giving an inch to work with the President to get something done.

Here a way to lower health care costs:
We know that the cost of malpractice insurance is huge, and that's passed on to the consumer (assuming they're payin their medical bills) so lower the cost of malpractice insurance by prohibiting people who aren't paying from suing.
If you choose to get free healthcare you get what you get.

The true advantage of the Capitalist system, or Free Market, is the most simple method of voting ever invented.
You don't like it? You don't buy it.
If Anyone doesn't like a Deal they can just not do business.
In a Regulated Market the controls set up don't allow the Free Market to function, it removes the chance for the consumer to demand a better Deal by forcing the same consumer to invest in businesses that can't sell their products to the very people paying all the bills.
americanbandwidth 1 year ago 29
@americanbandwidth You just described American crony capitalism a la Jeff Immelt brand that has captured the executive branch to suppress innovation and competition and also simultaneously squeeze the tax payer to maintain the MIC. In fact this is no new thing, crony capitalism has been a favorite past time of big conglomerates for greater than a century. One of the main reasons to be a cronyist is to suppress innovation by smaller competitors that may put them out of business.
nuclide 1 year ago
@americanbandwidth Simple? Well...only if you simplify it like that. It's more like, "You don't like it? You don't buy it. You do like it? You don't buy it. Instead, go download it off the Internet for free illegally."
smiledammit24 1 year ago
@smiledammit24 Except that downloading it illegally is not a legitimate option, just as any form of theft is not.
If you don't like the person's product or price, you don't just get to take that product without paying them for it. You just don't get the product, period.
Supermassively 1 year ago
@Supermassively Unfortunately the only place where that is true is in your head.
smiledammit24 1 year ago
@Supermassively Except that downloading things violates noone's use of property, so it isn't a form of theft at all.

@Supermassively Except it's not theft. Theft means you take something that another directly loses. But if you copy something another has made for your own use, they have lost nothing. tl;dr Intellectual Property is a ridiculous assertion

@americanbandwidth What if its something you need to have, but the market doesn't supply anything at an affordable cost?
ismdism 1 year ago
@ismdism
Then you figure out what you can give up for what you truly need. Demanding someone else help pay for something just because you need it is rather selfish.
AdamaGeist 1 year ago
@AdamaGeist What if there is nothing to give up? Also I'm not asking for anybody to pay for anything I just asked a question about the free market.
ismdism 1 year ago
@ismdism Then start your own business and offer the item yourself at a price you believe to be worth the time and effort.
The free market rewards the risk taker. Nothing motivates a person more than knowing you get a reward for your work.
That is why most great inventions in the last 150 years have come from the USA, The inventors came here to get paid instead of staying where they were and allowing the government to take their ideas and make all the money from it.
Einstein and Tesla are 2.
americanbandwidth 1 year ago
@americanbandwidth Right but if you can't afford this product I doubt you would have enough money to start a business to sell this product. I agree that the free market is a good thing, but I think it can use some tweaks in certain areas and is not something that solves all problems.
ismdism 1 year ago
@ismdism
AdamaGeist 1 year ago
@AdamaGeist You are right nothing solves all problems. Though it is possible to try and find a way to solve the most problems. If we always thought that what we had is the best and held onto the idea, just because things aren't fair doesn't mean we should change, we would have never discovered a free market.

That said, I would like to see some real ideas presented from you on your channel. If you were king of these United States, what ideas would you implement?
scrappmutt2 1 year ago
@scrappmutt2 Lee presents the current happenings and gives perspective. He doesn't proclaim to have all the answers. He makes people who claim to have the answers and WANT to be "king of the US" answer to their promises. Keep it up, Lee!
WWCons 1 year ago
@WWCons So does everyone else (Beck, Rush). Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about what they do, they do a good job, but if conservatives truly want to win in the arena of ideas, they have to present their ideas as well. Other than Neil Bortz and the fair tax, I don't hear much of their ideas, and I listen to all daily. I say "King of the US" to get to the heart of what a person believes. Essentially if you had to write the constitution by yourself, what would be in it?
scrappmutt2 1 year ago
@scrappmutt2 They do have ideas; LOTS of them. They have discussed them for years and pray to God that they present and implement them. They were addressed at the microphone in congress for the past 4 years and ignored. Hopefully that will not be the case going forward. The representatives were elected by angry voters to whom they are held accountable. My own constitution? That's a lot for a small space here, but a very good constitution we have is the one being trampled upon daily.
WWCons 1 year ago

With revised laws, he's legally liable.
admiralbullshit 1 year ago
@admiralbullshit I'm suggesting this simply because most people can't seem to grasp this simple idea, and blame cases where the freedom of "property rights" doesn't exist on "greed" and capitalism. Someone used the example of an African country where a village was forcibly razed to make way for some company's railroad project. The reality (and counter-argument) of the situation was that the govt of the country couldn't give two Arbys french dips about the property or well-being of its citizens.
admiralbullshit 1 year ago 2
Topic Suggestion: Any evidence of the growth of black market/informal market activities as a result of increased government regulations and taxes? When are entrepreneurs going to say "to hell with you" and go underground?
I have a few neighbors that have made their businesses informal (they only take cash under the table) and are collecting unemployment because of new taxes and regs. I have no idea if this is a localized thing or if it is growing throughout the nation.

Creationists/ Proponents of Command Economies: one entity with incredible power can, through top down management and control, create the incredible complex world and society we live in
Austrians/ Evolutionists: our complex and intricate world was created through spontaneous order from the ground up through an untold amount of entities interacting with each other
Your ignorance is so fucking cute.

Hey Lee,
Anyway you can make a video discussing American Federalism, and what some are calling a present day "flash point" relating to states struggling to preserve their rights while the federal government appears to be creeping on on these rights? This struggle seems to ebb and flow throughout history, but it does appear we are living at a critical point in history- perhaps even more so than other "flash points" between states and the federal government.
