Thank you so much for showing your steps! I've been trying to figure out how to make a multi-level display. But can you please tell me what dry brushing is? I only started doing my Halloween village a few years ago, and of course started off small and It has become much much larger, but I don't like just using Lemax's display platforms. What kind of foam was that and where do you buy it?
Wow!!! Very cool "Haunted, Spooky Halloween Village" - love all the details and your video is well done with the inspiring comments. Want to build a Spooky village one day!! Thanks for sharing this...
@oboale Dept 56 has bags of colored "moss" but I buy most of my moss and ground covering from Woodland Scenics (website with the same name). I mix and match and have even used the sheets of ground cover in some instances. Take time to look through the website because I have different grasses, weeds and all kinds of things that are actually made for model train scenery. The same type of stuff is available at craft stores but more readily available in hobby stores.
Does anyone know what scale are the Halloween villages? Is it an HO or O scale for trains, and do they use the dollhouse scale of 1/12 for people and buildings? BTW, what are the sizes of the people/ characters and the size of the buildings? Thanks in advance.
@BrettWeir007 Dept. 56 Snow Village buildings are said to be O scale and most other buildings from the Heritage Village Collection are said to be HO. The thing to remember is that Dept. 56 accessories and people are larger than O scale so that extreme detail is not lost. The buildings are varying sizes from 5" tall to 11 or more inches tall. The people are approximately 2 1/2" tall on average. I hope that helps.
I'm just in awe of your platform! I have some different pieces and normally just display them in a showcase but I've always wanted to do something like this.
@allhallows48 Thank you for your appreciation. Posting these is the best way for us to share ideas so I'm glad you have been inspired to some degree. Good luck and happy villaging.
That is the best halloween village I have seen! The lighting is artistic. I collect the dept 56 houses too, guess I will have to break down and buy the wax museum, it is awesome lite up!
Well done ! Though We don't do Halloween in Australia generally, I can still appreciate the lovely work you have produced. Keep it up; and I am looking forward to seeing your Christmas display 2009.
