Fundamentalism is a recent movement - early church fathers did not take Bible literally. They believed with writer of Timothy that all scripture is 'God breathed' not 'God dictated' as the fundies do. Therefore the writer is writing in a state of God awareness interpreting the impulse and heart of God in terms of their world view. See Karen Armstrong 'The Battle for God' for a full analysis of fundamentalism.

i LOVE this. these are things that have held me back from the church for years. i've been researching this very same subject myself. thank you for your video.
Dude, have you ever studied history? Obviously not, since you can't make the connection between the times and the temper. You are quoting a book in contemporary times and pointing out archiac attitudes, but if you had quoted those passages in the time they were written men would have fallen over backwards in shock since a woman was less than a dog and you didn't even consider their oppinions or attitudes let alone consider them as human.
I love you, man. Thanks for fighting the good fight. I get into arguments with women ALL DAY about the bible. I'm like: "I T. I S. S.E.X.I.S.T. you ignorant GOON!!!!!!"
I going to play a little devils advocate with 1 Cor 11 vs 4 I heard this explanation in a sermon the pastor of the church said that word "head" that is used in that verse doesn't really mean authority because she said the original wrtings used the word cavella i think its greek she said it is meant in terms of origin.
So if you read the verse with the new meaning it supposedly means to say "the origin of every man is christ, the origin of women is man the origin of christ is god"
im going to partly refute that explanation even if we took the new meaning of head as origin instead of authority it is wrong because man isnt the origin of women because using John's default gender as reference man is the modification of women design
any other refutations to this ill be glad to hear it
Interestingly the Hebrew word for woman, ishshah, is directly derived from the word for man, iysh, in essence woman can be translated into "man-ling". This follows nicely from the Genesis story of man being directly formed by God in his own image, whereas the woman is made FROM the man to serve and be obedient to him.
Let's not forget that a woman is unclean after having given birth but she is TWICE as unclean when that child is a girl.
Misogyny is wonderfully interwoven into Christian dogma.
Nice vid. Now that I think about it... why do they refer to God as "Father" and not "Mother". Why so much emphasis on the paternal and not maternal roles?
Good points. "Cherry picking" is putting it lightly. The "church" says the old testament is done away with, and in the same breath ask for 10%??...So, the Torah (old testament) only applies to the "church" when finances are involved? What a joke!...Sadly, this is just one of MANY examples. The "church" is no doubt morally corrupt and dangerous!
Yep. Abraham paid a tithe of 10% to his priest, that's where the idea came from. Of course even the people that spout that the OT doesn't count anymore would want to keep that one. That's their bread and butter. Cherry picking at it's finest!
Yeah, actually now that I think of it, JC spoke out against strict tithing. He said the spirit was more important and tithing should be made in private. I need to look up that verse but I remember reading it.
Just goes to show you, Christian leaders will gladly ignore Jesus when it suits them.
Thank you God for telling women that men are better than they are. Your holy advice has helped over the years for men to make this world a better place. Can you image what this world would be like if we had women running things.
I used to think the Bible was a book of love, then I read Genesis 19:8.

@MythicalGryphon1 That one really bothered me too. I had to read it over and over to make sure I understood it correctly.

All religions are sexist. They were made by men for men. Not that all men are sexist! Atheism ftw!!!!

@switchaka345 God treats men better than women because women unleashed sin upon the world. "They were made by men for men." Prove it. I sure can't.

I'm not religious, but at the end of this video, I found myself shouting AMEN! And punching the air.
Thank you for making your point so clearly and so well.
