And yes, I agree a tracked skid steer has its advantages, but let's face it, it costs $15K more than a tired skid steer running with tracks. Not to mention that the track loader rubber tracks will break where our Protrac tracks won't. And I bet that equipped with our new Portrac rubber tracks I can go and work on every place a dedicated track machine can.
We finally got a pair of Protrac with rubber pads; they aren't cheap, but they're definitely worth the money. The tracks made a huge difference and now we can do jobs we could never do before. The first time it took about 2 hrs to get them properly adjusted but after that it takes us about 30-40 min to put them on and 5 min to take them off. Frankly, since the rubber pads do not damage the ground and protect the tires from punctures very well, I see no need to take the tracks off at all.
I'll be honest, i was never a big fan. We had ones similar made by McLaren and it was such a hassle putting them on and taking them off. It would always pop the back tire off so we had to take the tracks on and off many many times. We finally just bought a tracked skid steer and never looked back. We also changed the stock New Holland tires for airless kind. If you are working in the dirt 100% of the time i'd just say buy a tracked machine. We buy new Holland, which is a great product.
Every time I see this video, I'm always amazed! These tracks seems undestructable, especially the Protrac Magnum -- they even run over a junked car with ease!!! I'd love to have a pair of Protrac, but need to get myself a skid loader first :-)
@firehotwings they are, but when ur also running solid tires they seem to be too heavy for the axles. thats why there not recommended with solid tires. unless u put lighter tracks like maximizer
And I thought I was the only skid steer "enthusiast". If I could afford them, I would put tracks on my 843. Not sure why, because most of the time it's in my backyard.
Damn, these tracks and that muddy pond are awesome. I would love to jump into that skid loader myself and spin it few times. That's my dream back yard :-) Good job, Protrac!
just got my set from radmeister (same brand as mclaren) luv my new tires and tracks.
