This was in 1982, long before everything had to be 3D. Maybe you like everything in 3D, but honestly, I prefer the 2D stuff. To me, everything looks the same in 3D. Don't know how it comes. Maybe because everything is rendered with the computers instead of drawing it by hand ? :)

That's cute :-) I remember when we were kids we had all those cartoons on the TV that we watched. Sometimes we had to wait for hours to see them, but we couldn't wait until they were on. If I look back at them now, some of them were really kinda stupid, but still fun to watch. Not like what is on nowadays... They were more fun 15-20 years ago :D

the guy who made this (tezuka) was the creator of Manga! the "Farther of anime", "the god of manga". you should know that.

@CRTX16 the manga drawing style was created by Osamu Tezuka. He also created Astroboy as a manga series back in 1952. So, yes, Astroboy is indeed classed as manga and anime. It's just evolved over the decades to things like Bleach, Soul Eater and Naruto. But Osamu created manga as a cross between disney's big-eyed cartoons and standard Japanese art, which turned out as what you see here in this video.

I mean the theme song from the original black and white Astroboy cartoon from 1960. Adult Swim ran some of the episodes about a year ago. The theme song for that series rocked. Had more militant lyrics, like "Astroboy there you go, will you fight friend or foe?" Had more of a marching beat. I loved it. I'm looking forward to the new Astroboy movie from Imagi studios - I think it's coming out this year.

I'll give credit for the movie using CG and using similar character designs. It is still a medium of animation not like some "other" live-action adaptation. I'm still bothered by the execution though, because it seems to be "westernized". Can't the Japanese make their own adaptation to another medium so as to retain that cultural uniqueness? It seems they do adaptations but don't go for international releases.

AstroBoy 1980 is the best. Though the picture isn't as good as the newer version, the characters are much better. AstroBoy1980 is truly brave, gentle and wise. The newer version's AstroBoy is too self-centered, giving off the feeling that he is too impulsive toward instant gratification. Does anyone know what I mean? I actually got shivers from watching the first episode and had to stop partway through because the new AstroBoy's character averted me so. And it didn't get better as I finished it.

This version(color) is the 1980's version. There was a previous monochrome version in the 1960's and a new remake in 2003, which is the one I was complaining about.

woo this show was so awesome growing up. the new one is shit tho.  there was another show sort of like this like a red robot thing, his name was like magma or something? but they've re-made him in 3-d changed the shows name and plot and now it sucks too. :( love old astroboy
