  • Thanks to everyone who left a comment. All feedback was constuctive and a complete transcription was included with the project...

  • Like other people here I really like the simple solid shapes (like the falling triangles and large circles) more than the patterned objects (like the star). The timing of the video is spot on with the music and each section didn't go on too long which made me want to see what was coming next. The scrolling rectangles were good but I wasn't keen on the pattern inside the rectangles. I would've preferred solid colours. Music is great, really like the interesting drum patterns. Would be good to se

  • Some Really good stuff here, the highlights for me were the use of colours, the circle colour chain and the piano. Some bits tend not to flow as well as others with the music and I don't know if this is just the video or my computer but the music could do with going up in Volume. Overall though a really good piece which I found very enjoyable.

  • I think the animation links with the music really well. The graphic styling and some of thedevices are unexpected. Maybe they don't link with each other as seamlessly as the animation itself but it leaves you wanting to know more about why it was put together like this. It felt fun, especially the keyboard part. It also felt unrefined - like this is the first draft. If this is art then I would like to see what this artist does next. I also really liked the music

  • I really like how the music fits sequentially with the timing of the piece. I think the crown didnt really fit aswell as the rest of the images however i liked the reoccuring shapes from the start of the piece within the keyboard notes and thought the circles being higher and lower on the video coinciding with the pitch of the song worked really well

  • Very good! I was little dubious at the start, the blocks felt a little Windows 3.1 but going forward I was impressed by the number of ways you found to represent the music. The rings and triangles playing particular notes and the line of circles were really pleasing to watch. And let's not forget the music, it's not an anthemic composition but it within the confines of this animation it does exactly what it needs to and provides plenty of ammunition for the visuals. Well done!

  • Not keen on the keyboard and "crown" elements in particular as these don't blend well with the music and are quite off putting. I do like the correlation between the falling triangles and the music and also the circles that are timed with the xylophone (very reminicent of ripples in water caused by rainfall)

  • I'm a layman and am therefore going to comment based on what I see and hear and not quote what I've read in a text book like others seem to have done. Firstly the music is a good listen, a little bit like a theme tune to a gritty 90's nothern drama if I'm honest, but there's nothing wrong with that. Not too keen on a lot of the animation though - there doesn't seem to be a story being told, and the flow from one block shape to another is too quick and unrelated. Cont......

  • By the way you need to read my comments backwards, typical me to make it all a bit more complicated than it needs to be.

  • pretend i know all the instruments). The star part didn't really live up to the quality of the rest of the piece feeling a little flat and lacking in texture. Generally I think the video is fab with an excellent use of colour, shapes and movement which help combine a the audiences sense of hearing with sight.

  • structured and in sync with the music as the rest of the video. I LOVED the caterpillar circles and it made me smile to watch. I felt it gave me a small insight into what synthesia may be like and correlated what my ears were hearing with what my eyes should be seeing (if that makes sense). This was also true for the parts where there were circles or pentagons bursting in time with the glockenspiel (I'm guessing that's what it is from an other persons comment but don't tell anyone and we can

  • Hey, I'm not very musical and got a little intimidated when I read the other comments but I guess my opinion is as good as anybody's so here goes. The start is good and I liked the interlocking blocks with the burst of circles, this seemed to fit really well with the music and there could have been more. The rectangle things at 29 sec and 3 min 8 secs are really not pleasing to the eye but I can't put my finger on why! The keyboard parts felt a little all over the place and generally not as well

  • Overall i think it was a successful modern take on the work of Fischinger and McLaren.

  • I liked the very first section, the blocks gave a feel for the music especially the 3 smaller blocks, I also thought the ring/hoops in time with the glockenspiel really worked as did the triangles section. I wasn't so sure on the keyboard and large star/tambourine section. Although there was movement and color changes I thought this lacked something the rest of the piece had as there was no actual movement of the shapes, you didn't feel the passing of time as much as the other sections.

  • Another masterpiece from the Mortlock/Runeckles vaults. Love the visuals - especially the middle 'circles' section (1.36 - 2.03). Great work, dude.

  • I'll certainly be using it - I reckon it could be used across a broad age range too - there are loads of possibilities, I've just thought of a great lesson on structure too! (Sound composition dude!).

  • A great piece! I'm not sure if it was composed with this in mind but it's a great pedagological tool too as it very clearly shows the use of texture and timbre in composition. The teaching of basic notation also comes to mind. I can see this is going to be really useful, and will definitely use it when teaching - certainly a great visual aid for those children or students who aren't auditory learners, as it shows the patterns and movements in music.

  • I like the building ‘triplet’ animation over the snare in the verses. The colour and texture of that animated section really works. It brings to mind some recent film opening credits, particularly the part where not only the blocks move in time, but also within the frame.

Complementing the music with fitting ‘shapes’ – Like the triangles for the arpeggio guitar and circles for the glockenspiel makes the piece a more audio visual experience, directing attention to the current lead part.

  • Nice work, there's some real thought gone in to the interfacing between the audio & video material. The synaesthesia theming was pretty clear, and visually there were just some really nice developing patterns occuring; nice one!
