  • cash was wired up like a chinese rocket.

  • Wow Johnny is really loaded!

  • Very true, wonder if he fell off his chair at the end.........total legend, lol

  • ha ha he has a cold...a dope cold

  • Wow, you can tell Johnny is not ok there...

  • Rainbow Quest (1965-66) was a U.S. television series hosted by Pete Seeger, devoted to folk music. The show's title is a variation on the lyrics of the folksong "Oh, Had I A Golden Thread". The program operated on a low budget, and Seeger and his fellow producers eventually had to fund the program from their own pockets, before the money ran out entirely and the program went off the air.

  • john's gotta cold...

  • Hmmm... I don't think it's a cold...

  • Pete is the anchor, Johnny is a strungout

flower (we are the only creature to choose whether we bloom or not) waiting to be saved by June Carter the Angel. My All the God's Bless Them Forever

  • Everybody seems to forget that Pete Seeger is actually in this video too and he´s doing a great performance!

  • on drugs..or off drugs..he will always have the BEST voice!

  • oh, man, he is wasted!

  • I don't know why everyone voted thumbs down on your comment.

    He's really high.

  • cash was a god. What a guy

  • was he still marrried to his wife here

  • yes, and i think june was too

  • Excellence. Thanks for this great post.

  • Despite his "condition", Johnny Cash was simply electric to see on stage in the 60s - far more than he was years later when things got better mostly due to his unpredictability. Back then he seemed to prowl the stage like a hungry tiger in a cage ready to attack anything that moved - you didn't dare take your eyes off of him in fear of missing something. He looked bad, sounded ragged, acted strangely, yet he grabbed your attention totally regardless of all those things working against him.

  • @anthony1962 ...that sounds like a kriss krisstoferson quote am i right

  • How did June manage to stay so calm and sane while dealing with the struggle of trying to support Johnny through his addiction? What a strong woman.

  • Through her faith in God. Despite the quality of "Walk The Line," that film virtually omitted JCC's strong faith and the impact that she and her deeply religious family had on Johnny. If you've only seen the film, then you are missing a significant element of their relationship.

  • Thats Right. That Movie Ticked Me Off, Because Christ Was Such A Part Of His Life. He Would Not Of Made It If God Was Not A Part Of His Life.

  • Johnny Cash got such an amazing manly voice

  • The name is Worried Man Blues. It was originally sung by the Carter Family. June is so awesome in this, and John is too...considering what he's going through now...I have a question though, he never sings Five Feet High and Rising...is it only messing up on my video or is it like that on everyone's?

  • These are 3 of my favorite singers. Thanks for the post.

  • what is the name of this song?

  • It takes a worried man.

  • its too bad that johnnys all freaked out.

  • Man, he was messed up!

  • you can tell John is ampthetamines, but it's all good, amazing.

  • acid (lcd) probably or a lot of weed.. a lot a lot of weed.. lcd most probs.

Nice session all the same, jamming.

  • Wow i really enjoyed this video Johnny, June and pete being themselves, relaxed and sharing a song.

    It's really beautiful Thanks

  • This is absolutely classic. Are these shows ever sold on DVD?

  • What year was this? Was Johnny still married to his first wife?

What sort of drugs did he do? Cocain? Someone mentioned meth . . . ?

  • Amphetamines, never cocaine. But here he is deeply in his "Ring of Fire"; terribly high actually, but great singing anyway... i guess between 1963 and 1965!

  • Well actually he said one time that he's tried just about everything there is out there.

  • Mhhm yeah, maybe, but I think his main addiction was to amphetamines.

  • spun the fuck out!!!

  • What a great story!!

  • Johy is realy realy drugd i this video... Allmost sad to see him like that... What a great perso Jue was that helped him... Best cople ever those two

  • ROCK ON JOHN YOU ARE #1 FOREVER.

  • Johnny Looks so ill!

  • she was johns angel on earth he would have never

survived without her too bad nobody helped townes van zant

  • Wow Johnny Was Really "WIRED"

  • REALLY wired. That was hard to watch. But fascinating.

  • yeah, drugs are great.

  • Johnny did have problems with drugs, we all know that. He dint lie about it. Thank God he did finally get off them with June's help. And we had the blessing of istening to him and maybe a little encouragement to know drugs can be beat.

  • Where is Five Feet High and Risin' and Theres A Mother Always waiting? Can you pleeease post them if you have them?!? By the way I love your vids!

  • Johnny Cash is a bundle of nerves here; this must've been a low point in his time of drug use. But he got over it, thank goodness. And regardless, for some reason this video just kinda makes me yearn to have seen life through the eyes of any one of these people.

  • Holy cow look at John he is crawling out of his skin, you can see June is not having a good time she is to worried about John...

  • Johnny is high as hell!!!! Holy crap!

  • whoa, crazy video, i love johnny cash, but he;s about to fall outta his chair

  • he is rolling on amphefitamines

    look at the eyes

  • Brian Jones *

  • Thanks for posting this. Great stuff. Interesting to see Cash in whatever state he was in at this time, approaching the nadir, closing in on rock bottom. He did some great work, though, during this period. All the Native American stuff, blood sweat and tears. Pete is great. I'm going to look for more of his stuff.

  • too bad John was so screwed up...I would've liked to hear him sing this one. He was a good man..good vid

  • So glad you played along with them! That's exactly what Pete Seeger kept encouraging the TV audience to do, so he'd be proud! That was the whole point of the show to spread the love of creating and playing music to us non-performers.

  • Johnny is stoned! But i still love him!

  • absolutely fabulous-started listening to these at church camp in 1962, reading Kerouac and Richard Farina, then saw Richard and Mimi here by accident, never knew he (richard) was so adept at dulcimer or Mimi was just as good as her sister, but these originals (Carters/Cash and Pete) just wring out the memories and reinforce the common thread. Thankyou!

  • wouldn't it be great to have seen these great artists

before and after this clip. To hear their voices, to listen to their comments. With that being said, isn't it a great thing to have this moment preserved.

    *sheri*

  • i love it, johnny is stoned. but it good.

  • June is great... she should have done more on her own. She has stage presence and a glow that is beyond beauty.

  • Well i think pete compared to the other two seems pretty gosh darn it normal, sure he could grow some hair but hey baldness happens! I hope after the show the producer of the show or even petey boy himself threw a mars bar in the direction of june, and a neckbrace in the direction of johnny cuz he must have had whiplash for sure from all the head flingin he did in those 4 minutes 51 seconds!

  • lol youre funny! what do you think about pete?

  • Well i have watched it and Oh my Goodness! Those boots could take somebody's eye out.. but he kept them shiny fairplay!... AND june... june, june, june dearo me she needed a good feeding! Her face is so drawn and her legs well im surprised that when she walked she didnt burst into flames!

  • The dot was just a practice...I wish i could change my name to pumba lol. I havnt actually watched the video... yet... but i will take freefromfolsom's word that the boots are attractive. So... freefromfolsom you a johnny cash fan then?

  • o gosh yeah who ISNT. Oooo those BOOTS

  • .

  • I'm also glad he got off drugs. I dig the boots too. They're funky.

  • Im so thankful he got off drugs in the end. those boots are so attractive by the way people!

  • John is wearing high heels.

  • The Cuban Heels were fashionable in the late 50's and early 60's

  • He also wears them on the Johnny Cash Show.
