  • Will a mega drive game genie work on a genesis?

  • Will Rockman Mega World work on a US console with the Game Genie?

  • I heard the japanese megadrive had an extra or better sound chip , do you notice any sound difference from the 1601 original genesis ?

  • i really think that the speed differance is over hyped as there is a slight difference but only slight imho, how about playing NTSC on a PAL console ? does that work?

  • Thanks for the links. but I was looking for a code to play puyo puyo on a american genesis. I'll try the codes for my other games.

  • Do you have any codes to play Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (US version) on a JP Mega Drive?

  • If anyone ask Here's the code for Pulseman

    LAXT-AA5L

  • Does anyone know if the Mega Drive game Double Dragon 2 will work on an NTSC system? using the same method(s)

  • Do I always have to input codes before I want to play? or the gamegenie saves it?

  • @nikirfan Always input it.

  • Hey dude 5/5 tht was gr8 thanks a lot... but by any chance do you know the code to let me play michael jackson's moonwalker for the european mega drive on to the american genesis??? please mesasage back.

  • kitty!!!

  • Neat trick.

  • Nice video. My system is modded so I don't need any adaptor, but for those who wants a vanilla console a GG is a good way to go, although it doesn't work with all games, or specifically there aren't codes for all games.

  • that's awsome jake, so i guess this world work if i bought a pal(australian, since i'm in australia) mega drive, and bought a game genie, i could play american/japanese games?

  • I need more Japanese games to try with my GG. Great coverage, great vid :)

  • hmm that is intresting but awsome

  • Hmm, That's cool :P

I don't know what I meant by saying that, but it was cool xD

Awesome review of the Game Genie.

    5/5

  • cheers dude! :-)

  • Hey Jake, I think you should check out one of the clones that was on sale here in the UK... I think it was called the scorpian... It had switches on the side for output type and region... And on the back, the seller used to take the game out of the plastic and connect the card into this little port at the back that used to have a plastic flap as a free bonus game.. Pretty cool huh? I saw one on eBay that sold for £300!

  • Ballin TV!

  • lol, the cat just ran into the camera xD

  • Which version of Street Fighter 2 is better SNES or MEGA DRIVE?

  • @prulcan SNES- Music and Gameplay-By Far!

  • thank you jake....killer info!

  • Jake this kind of info is great, you just increased everybodies catridge count tenfold.

  • Definitely a nice device, although I prefer switches for the region and display mode, because that's relatively easy to do on a Mega Drive, cheaper and most of all, very comfortable as you don't have to input codes or anything.. =)

  • Got a game genie off ebay a few days ago, hopefully i will recive it today. I kinda hope that i will be able to play some of the PAL games in 60 hz. Kinda like with Sonic & Knuckles. When i only used Sonic 3, i couldn't load the game in 60 hz, but when i attatched S&K it workd without a problem. =)

  • I wonder if there's codes for the Action Replay too?

The Game Genie was almost non-existant in the UK, despite the fact it was developed/made by Codemasters.

  • I hjave the game genie with the book that will boot on a UK console. Is game genie rare or something?

  • If it's a UK model, it's pretty rare yeah, Datel really dominated the market here with the Action Replay.

  • i Have a UK have a UK game Genie too, I didnt know thwy were rare, I paid about 15/20 Pounds on ebay , good to know though..

  • My action replay actually has an option to play ntsc games (I have a pal system))

  • That's awesome. Would have come in handy so I didn't mod my Genesis. But I guess it's okay seeing as since the mod isn't really noticeable. Great tip. I'm going to keep a look out for a Game Genie.

  • That's great but, I still like the SMS with it no region coding so you can play anything. +_+

  • Slick intro man! I've heard about people doing this before it's cool to see it work. Cool video man.

  • Very nice, man, gotta pick one up now. That generation of systems importing wasn't nearly as popular as the next so it's not something a lot of people think about.

  • That is a pretty cool work around. 1337 G4M3 93N13 H4X0R.

  • Leet game genie haxor? lol

  • Good tip man. Now I can go global with my collection.

  • thx for the lik that will be a great help

  • Another option is to add a region switch, and i've seen some ways to do a switchless mod using the reset button.

  • @jooshiscrazy

And it's pretty interesting, considering that Sega didn't block off the circuit board schematics -- at least on the Mega Drive 1 that I have.

  • YAY!!! DIDN'T KNOW THIS!!!

It's just like using Gameshark Lite to play imports on Dreamcast! GREAT TO KNOW!!

  • Awesome man.

Just picked up a Genesis Game Genie today...had no idea it wouldnt work on my Gen3...also didnt know about region bypass codes for it either...lol

    Thanks :D

  • I love Street Fighter 2!

  • cool intro and great video, thats neat that you can do that...i am surprised that galoob didn't get sued for that

  • loophole. they put on the box "not intended for use for games sold outside the U.S."

  • I was pretty sure that NTSC was also in Japan.

  • yeah but there is ntsc-U and ntsc_J that makes a difference.

  • I do have a model 2, I got the sonic smash pack. It still works too, had it for about 9 or so years.

  • what version is that? i have model 7357 with manual and box got for free.

  • It's that model.

  • ok. this manual that is with it is interesting. actually tells you how to program or at least gives hint i guess. too bad only have 3 games. steal empire, sonic the hedgehog, Aladdin

  • excellent....you just sold me on a game genie...now where do I get one???

  • good information i didnt know about the game genie bypassing the region block

  • When I was growing up, I never liked the idea of usign a Game Genie. Little did I know that it could prove useful with respect to playing import games on your domestic console. Had I known that this was the case, I would have picked this sucker up a long time ago.

  • damn.... i'ma try and sell my model 3 and get a model 1 or 2

  • 3 is nice, size wise. but the lack of expansion port makes me not care about getting one. but I may get it to get every version of the NA console.

  • Those model 3's are cool lookin', I thought it was one of those chinese bootlegs growing up.

  • What do you mean by playing PAL on an American system? Does that even work, considering the difference in refresh rate?

  • Works fine. I think it depends on the game and what region it was optimized for. Many games run slower on PAL machines so they are optimized for 60hz anyway. I guess its possible for some games to run too fast on these? Not sure but all the PAL games I have work fine on my NTSC systems. I have some PAL SMS games and a few PAL MD games that work fine.

  • @MN12BIRD

One example of a PAL MD game that was pre-optimized was: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

  • Not all games do that right? I have a couple of Gen games and they play just fine on my system. Well, maybe a bit slower, but let's just say I don't know any better lol.

  • No not all games do it. From what I hear most before 1992-1993 don't, most after than do.

  • @MN12BIRD well I don't know what you mean about not all games...but look I have a brazilian megadrive made by tectoy that is a genesis with colours system changed to pal and I can play any North american games or japanese through super/mega-key and works perfect with no slowdown I don't know if brazilian games has lockout-region!

  • Region codes are lame. I'm glad they're starting to go away.

  • i feel like a retard, i passed up a boxed game genie for the genesis for three bucks, so i could get a couple loose nes games

  • Dude where did you get that version of the game genie? I have the golden one and some codes didn't work for some games.

  • I dunno I've always seen this black one around here and on the internet. I don't think I've ever seen a golden one! I guess they changed it and had a few versions of it?
