I'm gonna sound like an idiot for it, but in my defense, I'm looking into zx3's coming over from dsm's. So, what are the main differences between a zx3 and an svt?
I've owned a turbo Slowcus and a WRX, and IMO regardless of what this video shows a turbo Slowcus would easily outrun an equally modded WRX from a roll. WRX's are NOT fast mod for mod. They are the underdog in the 4 cylinder world for a reason. Unless you have VERY deep pockets don't waste your time on a WRX. Think I'm wrong? Put aside the 1% of "fast" WRX's you've only seen videos of or that WRX that a friend of a friend of a friend owns that you've only heard stories about and open your eyes!
oh yeah... just wonder if it was a mk3 RS with the massive 2.5T from volvo S40 T5... it would make smithereens of the subaru..
not even gonna mention the RS8 who pwned a lambo gallardo, mostly thanks to the engine and chassis ballance and because it handles much better than any other overpowered car.
As of now, there are now Focus models available in the U.S. with a turbo. It came from the factory with either a 2.0L or 2.3L NA motor. The owner had lots of work done to it (see info), and we have come to the conclusion something was wrong with it at the time of this race. the WRX he raced had a stock longblock 2.0L Subaru engine in it, with mods in the info, and about 75 lbs. of weight reduction.
yeah, a focus with a turbo should at least keep up better than that.. by the way, do you know were he got his turbo kit? how much was it? and what did he have to do to the motor so it could take it? hit me up with some awnsers! :D
the WRX is a 2.5L BOXER with TURBO, has massive lag and gulps gas like a bitch. If that focus had turbo on it, would smoke the subaru like it was nothing.
The Zetec/Duratec engines have the best stock intake engineering you can get on the focus' range of price, and responds much better to any kind of tune ups, turbos and compressors than any other engine it's size and price.
All you need it patience, money and time and the car will pwn anything you want...

Mod for mod the WRX will win EVERYTIME against a focus. I don't care what came with it factory. Stock WRX hp for my year anyway was 227hp vs the focus SVT running 200hp N/A but to the ground the SVT has more power due to the WRX losing more to the ground through the AWD. WRX makes like 170hp to the ground stock and still runs low 14's vs the stock SVT running high 14's to low 15's making more whp. hmm seems to me like the WRX is better because it makes more TQ and always will.
well I have seen SVT focus' out at the track alot and some of them with GT30R turbo kits and the fastest any of them have gone with 25psi is 11.8 and I run 18psi and do 11.5 so I would just rather have my WRX lol. It is just a matter of preference and I think overall the WRX is the better car.
They aren't twice the price. Hell I bought my 03 WRX 2 years ago for $13,900 and I just saw an SVT Focus for sale for $14,800 so I would say they are the same price give or take. Yeah brand new they are more expensive. But think about how much more you are getting for your money though.
I'm car shopping right now. WRX's around this area are still around 14-17,000. I'll be picking up an 03 svt for 5,000 today. Maybe they're cheaper in your area? WRX's are hot commodity around here. They don't stay in the dealership long before they're gone.
75k. Got it today. I friggin love it. I'll admit, I went up to 130mph as soon as I saw open empty county road. It felt like nothing I've ever driven before at that speed. That'll be the last time I do it on the street though. Might have to do some road racing with it though. It handles on rails!
@JoeVSvolcano no...because you can get an SVT focus and throw 8-10 psi on it and get upwards of 260-280 whp if not more...that'll do more than "keep up" with a wrx...and you can get nice svt focus' for around 5-6 k...supercharger or turbo cost 3...you looking at 8-9 k and it would smoke wrxs and probably stis too that aren't modded up pretty good. the thing about it is these focus' aren't meant for drag racing...they're more of a road racing car and they handle very very well as well as brake..
I have a 04 SVT and they handle like theyre on rails...made for the all around driving experience than for being fast. but like @JoeVSvolcano said, doesnt take much to make it fast! I like having 6 gears to go through too!

I'm male, 21, and have a clean driving record. I talked to about every insurance company I could find, and the cheapest quote I got was $1200 a year. My Roush Focus: $550 a year. With the FSWerks turbo kit, the 2.0L Focus is more than capable of 220HP @ 8PSI. So, I'll be saving up for that instead.

don't be silly, the EVO Q 400 would eat anything a focus could throw at it...its lambo crunching acceleration would eat any SVT. I got 06 wrx sl with Pro drive power pack and Its frighteningly quick for a car that cost me £10k.

I didn't say it was a future jap classic just commented that performance wise its in a different league. I had a mark 2 rs2000 that still drives and is a classic, with that I agree all old ford rs's will be....I've never ever had any problems with my Subaru, in fact it was voted on top gear as one of the most reliable bomb proof cars ever made. The repair bills in the UK are no different than a ford so can't speak for the USA...once again I like the focus my wife has the new model
The focus was a nice car, but it just wasn't sorted well. The wrx was sorted well. Ran a 12.9 at the strip the week prior to when this video was taken...There's nothing wrong with a turbo focus, but this one happened to run slower... That's just how it came out. He was trying and he was the one that asked me to race, not that it matters...
First of all...that's not just a wrx. it's an STI...and a well tuned STI at that. He's gone as far as to rip out the back seats, and pull the spoiler off to loose weight.
lol, no it is not an STI. It is a WRX with a CAI, turbo back exhaust, up pipe, and custom tune - that's it. It even came from the factory wingless, he didn't remove it.
SVT's definitely aren't the better focus, at least not when compared to a turbo zx3. I don't even think that focus was racing either. Either that or the wrx had quite a bit done to it. I used to own a turbo zx3 pushing 191hp and 202tq at the wheels and that shit would scream on the highway, definitely would easily take out a lightly modded wrx any day.
well svt built focus up to withstand power better than a zx4, like the german 6 speed trans, with lsd (i believe,) bigger driveshafts, better suspension components, and obviously not noting the new intake manifold that makes 80% of its total torque around 2,200 rpms. in the first year of production it was "the most sophisticated svt ever built." according to svt. horsepower wise, you are correct though. svt- 170 bhp.
i actually think the SVT is a little better, stock at least. The SVT has the eibach suspension pieces from the factory, althought i do admit I would like to have the 5 spd instead of the 6 sometimes. (i own an '02 svt that had a turbonetics kit on it,pistons rods, and had some minor head work done before i left to go on tour in afghanistan, now that i'm back i'm thinking about upgrading to a gt35r, call me crazy but i think i need to start shopping for a new bottom end :):)

well svt built focus up to withstand power better than a zx4, like the german 6 speed trans, with lsd (i believe,) bigger driveshafts, better suspension components, and obviously not noting the new intake manifold that makes 80% of its total torque around 2,200 rpms. in the first year of production it was "the most sophisticated svt ever built." according to svt. horsepower wise, you are correct though. svt- 170 bhp.

i actually think the SVT is a little better, stock at least. The SVT has the eibach suspension pieces from the factory, althought i do admit I would like to have the 5 spd instead of the 6 sometimes. (i own an '02 svt that had a turbonetics kit on it,pistons rods, and had some minor head work done before i left to go on tour in afghanistan, now that i'm back i'm thinking about upgrading to a gt35r, call me crazy but i think i need to start shopping for a new bottom end :):)

I doubt your focus can touch the WRX in this video... IT's running a built ej207 and an SC61, race suspension, 6mt, etc...
