And big deal if they they "harass" you! Tell them to fuck off. You can't go to jail for owing money. It'd only affect your credits. So what? Go bankrupt then start over by building credits with a secure credit card!
This is from a debt collector who's also a debtor.
Umm, I'm pretty sure that if a debt collector say those things to a debtor, the company he works for would most likely be shut down by the consumer protection office... This video is stupid.
It's stupid, really. People file for bankrupcy when you see big screen Tvs in there house and them smoking cigarettes and going out to eat... WTF YOU IDIOT!!! Big screen TV- 2k Fags- 2-4k a year Computer- 2k Out to eat- 1k extra a year Guitar- 3k Hmmm... 5k a year, plus a lot more money... 5kids FTW I can get a computer for $200. No fags. $300 TV. Oh, I play the guitar. I forgot I can buy and sell them on the internet... Pssh I make 7k/m just a few hours a day. Dumbasses.
Try collecting a bullshit debt from a emotionally unstable PTSD United States Marine...ME...your coming over to hit me with a crowbar? I work for a debt collection company. If you try to "intimidate" debtors, your ass is fired and you are fucked trying to get a new job. People often think that all collectors are bad but that is far from the truth. Collectors are people too. Do you have any idea what its like being said "fuck you, go to hell, go fuck yourself, eat shit and die, you're an asshole, etc." all day long? Do you have any idea how much government regulations stick their noses up our asses?
I had one of these guys come to my work once. I was cooking at a steak house and was carving a side of beef so I had my apron on and was covered in blood. I am also 6'2 and my head was shaved at the time, I walk out and introduce myself to this little pale man in a suit. At first i thought he was a cop but after I found out the deal I offered to go outside with him. I really just wanted a smoke but this guy literally ran away! We all had a good laugh about this for weeks.

Jayar is right! Just like that TYT story where that guy recorded all the racist voicemails left by the debt collectors and got a million-plus dollars for it!
I got some jackholes calling me every other day and I don't owe a damn thing. "I'll have to put a lein on your home" - "I'll be sending a credit report." I told them to do it or STFU. No lein. No credit report. These people pull scams on you just because they can.

Steve Irwin is a perfect metaphor here, he spent his time wrestling the most dangerous animals on the planet... then got killed by one of the most docile.
Everyone gets into debt from time to time. You NEVER need to deal with a debt collector over the phone. It all HAS to be done by mail to be legit anyways.A real collection company will never threaten you.Google the collection laws in your state and empower yourself.Turn the tables on shady collectors and ALWAYS pay the principal debt holder.Never pay a collection agency unless they are the principal debt holder(they usually aren't).And be sure to get their full name for your FTC report.
What's the point of hiring a debt collector if they aren't willing to do things that you personally aren't? Of course they do illegal things, of course they threaten and harrass those they're trying to collect from.
Hmm I'm just waiting for those Glenn Beck types going "SEE!!!This is what evolution teaches you!".
Hmm these debt collectors are reminiscent of the Mafia...Pay the vig or I break your legs! People don't go out taking loans, just don't do it, stick to what you have if you can, otherwise you'd just be feeding the "legal lonesharks".
im on probation and the urine test company is private. without money i cant test. so im going to got to prison friday july 23rd because im poor. if the point of probation is to make sure im following the rules why should my financial status dictate that? ive never done drugs, never had a drug charge an never faild a drug test. but this is why im non compliant. fuck indianapolis an all the lawmakers here.
were i work they constantley tell you not to break the law but when u do all you can to collect and they will not pay or can't pay. the company is constantly nagin why they haven't paid yet. and its seems like in the end they want you to break the law even though they don't say it. in a way like they speak in code you know "wink wink". plus if you dont collect belive they got 100 other muther fuckers lined up to do what you wal'nt. so in the end its either this or flipin burgers.
And when it's medical bills? My son passed out while driving, 911 was called and he was transported to the hospital. Nearly $2000 later, he's keeping the collectors at bay. It's ridiculous. The ambulance service went to collections 1 month after the incident AND after he made a partial payment.
The problem is that debt collectors assume that you owe the money, just because some jackass (like the state of Maryland) says that you do. I've had debt collectors come after me twice, even though I owed no one anything. They just assumed that I was guilty. But, you have to call their bluff. Do not be intimidated!
BTW, I always love Jayar's comments. Don't be scared, be pissed off!
@EvilTube2007 the same thinking happened to me. A Columbia House Executive told me I don't owe them money for DVD's I RETURNED. Now THREE YEARS LATER, some Indian dude is telling me Columbia House forwarded a NONEXISTENT ACCOUNT to them. IF YOU KNOW YOU DON'T OWE ANYTHING DON'T PAY!!!!. There are SCAMS THAT ARE RUN THE SAME WAY!!!
You guys need to do your homework. The examples you gave were very extreme. There are federal laws and state laws that protect debtors from these type of practices. Any debt collector who threatens a debtor is violating federal law and should be prosecuted. How they got away with it for so long sounds suspicious to me.
Two businesses basically screwed me so I gave it back to them, I have a lawyer. I had one debt collector call me and talked to me like a dog. I asked him twice not to talk to me like that and then I hung up. I know this is their job but they don't have to be asses. And some people like me pay their bills but I will never pay a bill where a company lied to me.
Wow that really sucks for those that cant stand up for themselves. I know i will but at the same time like Cenk said, there needs to be "bounds of reason"..
Actually, if you send the collector a 'cease and desist' letter, they are supposed to stop contacting you. If they don't, then you contact the Federal Trade Commission who has the authority to levy fines from $10,000 and up against the collector for each violation. If the harassment continues, then the FTC can award damages fro you.
I get calls form these maggots all the time looking for information on a "neighbor". I enjoy fucking with collectors, after a few drinks sending them into a rage is good clean fun. I just make shit up, from phone numbers to new addresses. In the 10 years I've lived in my house I have never met or heard of the guy in question, or anyone with the same last name.
A debt collector came to my house once and told me that if I didn't pay up he would beat me up. I told him to go for it. He attacked me, so in self defense I attacked him back. Dude got three cracked ribs and couldn't see. Then I called the cops and had him taken away for coming to my home and assault me. The icing on top was that he was trying to collect that debt from the brevious tenant.
Debt collectors are the scum of the earth, they are subhuman and have no souls. They treat people as if everyone simply buys shit and skips out on payments because it's funny. How a human being can lower themselves to that level for a job is amazing to me, but then again look at how people act on the internet, I guess it's not really that surprising.
Debt collectors are third party companies that get a cut of all of the funds they collect for their clients. The big banks are insulated since they pass this off to another company.
I had collectors call me to gain info on people who work for me, then threaten, and try to intimidate me because I wouldn't disclose that info. They even called pretending to be from my own HQ to gain employee info, and when I probed, the insults and yelling began.
Are people really surprised? Money lending has ALWAYS been a dirty business. Once upon a time collectors wouldn't be threatening to break your legs or kill you; they would actually break your legs or kill you...
Max out as many credit cards as you can and just don't pay them.
When they start to call, tell them you don't have any money and to go fuck themselves, and if they want the money, come find you and your waiting arms.
Bankrupt these fuckers and buy yourself some new shoes, a tv and ipod on bank of america and jp morgan chase!
Meh, I have a hard time getting too mad about debt collectors. You really can't get mad at people who go after people for the money that they actually owe, because let's face it... the people who give out money don't always get their money back.
Attack the reason that people don't have the money in the first place, not the guys who are doing their jobs. Quite frankly, as harsh as these people sound, debt collectors these days sound pretty impotent. Talk big, no authority.
@dEdGrimley Yeah, but most of the time the person calling you doesn't even directly work for the organization that is due the money. They're basically a contractor that has to go all out on you because it is their only source of revenue. So you better bet they're going to be complete jackasses.
This is not a US thing in my country there was a undercover reporter with camera exposing debt collectors.. basically there just thugs getting payed a legal wage for doing illegal things... making threats, they were even robbing ppl here man.. that aint right
@aarondavid826 How can you be basically a thief? You either are or aren't. If you paid your debts on time every month and then you lose your job and unemployment doesn't cut it then your obviously going to choose who to stiff. Roof over your head and food in the families mouth before the credit card and gym membership.
@aarondavid826 I'd say the real thief's are the credit companies that jack up your rate on your credit card because you were late with your car payment that is a completely different company. Credit companies dug their own hole. I dated a girl that made 7.25$ an hour and they gave her a card with an 8000$ limit. Good Idea. Her minimum payment was like 500$ a month and she only made around 1000$ a month. And what are they supposed to do with the stuff? Sell your underwear on craigslist?
Please tell me you are not that narrow minded. Most thieves do it on purpose, most debters don't. Also it is not even their fault in many cases.
Imagine how many from lehman brothers who are in debt trouble now. Hard working, god fearing, honest americans who did their job perfectly. Then out of the blue they don't have a job and cant get a new one. And it was not their fault even. Are they thieves all of a sudden?
Even if you were right, thieves still have rights!
You know what?! That is something I never thought about, To call them back and threathen them. Or fax things to them so they have to come out of their pocket for paper and ink, geez! Hmmmm...... Wow! LOL! Not a bad Idea!
how dare you attack collectors putting them in such a bad light! Collectors are not charity workers, they work for agencies under contract to retrieve monies that debtors have absconded . It's very hard work and takes a certain kind of person to be good at it
Cenk fails to mention that the most vicious collectors are government employees working for IRS collecting taxes imposed by equally vicious politicians! IRS has driven guys into suicide, has gleefully ruined families including babies
Jayar is a man after my own heart. That's exactly what I was thinking. How could you let someone talk to you so disrespectfully? I would have done exactly that. Here's my address. Call me on your cell, we'll fucking handle this. I have no sympathy for that bitch debt collector either. I think it's funny that she got pages of profanity. I wish someone had beat the fuck out of her. These people are bottom feeders.
@Newenlightenmentnow Haha i was thinking the same thing. I was about to make a comment about it before Jayar said exactly what I was thinking. Please send someone to my house with a tire iron, but make sure they know if they step inside my house I'ma blow his fucking head off". I can't imagine someone allowing someone to talk to them that way. Debt collecting can't be an easy buisness, but come on... threats of violence?
this guy in school was telling me he got a call for a debt, but it wasn't his debt, he was only put down unknowingly as a reference...so he explained it to the collector yet he kept calling, accusing him of being the one in debt...so this guy had a day party with beer and babes, and "bring your own cell phone" and everyone spend the day calling that number and creating all kinds of chaos...he didn't get calls anymore...
When for two years when I was 17 and 18 a female debt collector harrased me over a debt that wasn't even mine. I was young and had no idea how to fix errors on my credit report. This woman told me that I had to pay the debt even though it wasn't even mine. She told me I couldn't go to college or buy a house or a car. She told me my life would be ruined forever. I'm so glad I didn't belive her and did my research. I wish I'd sued that horrible woman.
You nailed it Cenk. People slowly slide into the position of being poor and powerless, and with each step they lose a little bit more of their self confidence and their willingness to fight back.
You nailed it Cenk. People slowly slide into the position of being poor and powerless, and with each step they lose a little bit more of their self confidence and their willingness to fight back.
That's just sadistic of them, squeezing the working classes of every dollar left. That's simply evil, and it IS happening. Big government, big corporations, against everyone else - the little people, just trying to scrape out a living. Sad, what America has come to...
Its stolen pure n simple. Thats why your in ASIA(Afghan Iraq) just as your black souled abominable barbarous forefather stole land from the INDIANS. FEAR not the SONS of ASIA are a different breed.
Conquered hehehe enjoy whilst it lasts. EVIL DOES NOT LAST LONG, only to be CONQUERED.
Here's an idea, not saying anyone should actually do it or anything, but I still would love it if someone actually did it: send those collection agencies pipe bombs. I think it would be awesome.
the progressive dimwit Cenk should get off this kind of shit! Collectors only make money when debts are repaid. the idea that poor people should be able to avoid their obligations because they don't have much money is the kind of fuckass thinking that got us all into the Fannie/freddie mentality of sub-prime mortgages, the CRA and giving loans to people that can't afford to make payments. Not happy with the meltdown, blame guys like Cenk and the rest of the progressive social engineers
@genie0390 Haha but you gotta admit, saying they're gona come to your house with a tire iron is pretty outrageous. I would probably love that though.
The sub-prime mortgage crisis was not a result of social engineering... Sub-prime mortgages are, theoretically, the most profitable for the banks and the mortgages in which they can charge exorbitant rates that they can raise arbitrarily. Then they use derivatives to make money when poor people who should never have been given the loan cant pay.
so you're saying bankers are to blame for the meltdown? and let's forget about Clinton's CRA, his deregulating financial institutions 1999, Reno threatening bankers with jail terms unless they loosen rules, Barney frank working with Fannie/Freddie to stop bankers redlining poor areas, all these things didn't matter?
getting poor people to own homes was social engineering of the worst kind
how come bankers didn't do their crazy things prior to events mentioned above?
@genie0390 To my logic you have a very perverse perspective of the financial collapse and a strange understanding of what the CRA.
I would consider "getting poor people to own homes was social engineering of the worst kind" valid but it was DEREGULATION of the financial industry that lead to the collapse. The deregulation resulted in absurd speculative markets and to this day nothing is being done about it. The banks have become short sighted, too concerned with the quarterly.
@genie0390 If you're really interested in understanding the situation idk that it can be explained properly in 500 characters, but you need to do a little more research on credit default swaps and credit derivatives.
I don't like excessive government regulation of private enterprise nor do I care for naive policy, such as Clinton's push for everyone to be a home owner but your position seems inconceivable. To anyone well versed on the subject your claims seem so irrational I can't see the logic
@genie0390 The bankers are corrupt to the core because a system is allowed to exist in which they can get rich by failing. A system where they can collect dividends on bad investments because they are bad investments.
If I loaned John Doe 100 dollars, knowing he was broke and had no means to repay me that would be a bad investment. But if I was allowed to bet you 200$ that John Doe wouldn't be able to pay me, that would make me more money. It's an oversimplification but that is basic gist.
What's sad is how we desensitize people to loosing their things by making entertainment out of it. I refuse to give Repo TV shows ratings by watching them. They do nothing but get people used to the idea of people coming to take their stuff. Trash TV: to teach us more how to be like trash and how to take being trampled on with a smile.
Right on. I used to think those shows were entertaining until I found out the sleaziness of these collection agencies, and even worse, they have no legal right to do any of this.
If there was no debt, there would be no money. Money = debt, debt = money. If all the debts were paid there would be no money. The monetary system is not set up to benefit the average person. Do some research. Start with Zeitgeist Addendum.
The only debts my mom has are unpaid medical bills that were unwarrented for, and she just ignores their calls. Its not that hard. Or if they do pick up and try and intimidate her, she hangs up on them.
What kills me is that for us the debt collectors are for clinic/hospital bills. It is a "Christian" organization. They are more aggressive then any of the others I have ever had to deal with. It's not like we went out and bought jet ski we were in the ER because we were in a car accident. The ambulance was $800 alone. The insurance company is fighting us so we are stuck with bills we can't pay.
You know, I used to be something of a pacifist (yeah, there's a long story behind the handle), but if I knew of somebody grieving and humiliating somebody close to me I really think I'd find their details and assault them badly.
If this kind of thing truly is commonplace, then I want their fucking blood, man. I'm serious. There's something about humiliation and lack of empathy that brings out the worst in me. Making fuckers cry for kicks? I'd put them in hospital and regret it later.
This happens in huge part because of the damned school system. They don't TEACH you anything there! Hardly any of the information I got from public school has ever been put to use, nor do I think I will use it. How long is the economics class? 1 semester! ONE! You can't teach a kid how to be financially responsible with just a single damn semester!
And then you have impoverished schools that can barely afford to teach kids anyways, so they'll already have a tough time just because.
@CommandoDude when the issue of money crops up in school, we're told about the mint being the place where currency is created. schools don't tell u about fractional reserve banking and how they conjure money out of thin air! they actively revise history too. they aren't teaching people in schools that the vietnam war was started by a false flag attack; or that Caesar was assassinated for issuing his own money. we're kept in the dark by the very institutions that should be serving us. so i concur
A tornado destroyed our house, and we were waiting for the insurance claim to be settled. We stopped making our house payment, because we knew the insurance was going to pay off the rest of the loan. HOWEVER the debt collector was BRUTAL! She TOTALLY made me cry! At one point, my husband came home to me yelling at her "How would you like it if I called you during dinner time, interrupted your time with YOUR family and asked my to go on welfare?" My husband gently took the phone from me..(o:
"Avoiding debt" isn't the problem here, this simple solution can't apply to the entire world and is pretty short sighted. Financial predators prey on our ignorance, we're not taught these basic concepts in high school and for those in my age group, we're left to learn through experience AFTER our money has been forcibly taken ( generally).
What's truly pathetic is that while debt collectors working for big businesses are effective, Wage theft agents retrieving unpaid wages for the poor aren't.
@ManicStreetStevO Only if you buy shit you can't afford. I don't see why it's so hard, I know many people my age that are in tens of thousands of dollars of debt... (I'm 23) and there's no reason for it other than irresponsibility.
@Xerxes4242 I am 24, and know contrary. I know 18 year olds who were lied to to convince them to take on student loans, and real estate agents who lied to get people to get mortgages. Tell me what is okay about an 18 year old kid who gets tricked into getting a 15 year student loan at 15% interest. That is like 375 dollars a month for the next FIFTEEN YEARS of his live. THAT my friend is slavery.
@windigo77 Well, to me, that's lack of regulation in the system. Here in Canada, student loans are 0% for the first 5 years AFTER you finish your education.
When I worked for a bankruptcy attorney you would not BELIEVE how many of my clients got threatening calls like that AFTER they had filed. After they file the creditors had to stop collection attempts and I would have to literally put my bitch personality on. There is a woman at one mortgage company that literally NEVER wants to hear my voice again cause after I was finished ripping her a new one she was near tears.
The best thing to do is try to avoid debt in the first place. Try to pay for everything up front and if you can't afford something leave it in the store
And big deal if they they "harass" you! Tell them to fuck off. You can't go to jail for owing money. It'd only affect your credits. So what? Go bankrupt then start over by building credits with a secure credit card!

Chris12163 1 year ago
Actually, if you send the collector a 'cease and desist' letter, they are supposed to stop contacting you. If they don't, then you contact the Federal Trade Commission who has the authority to levy fines from $10,000 and up against the collector for each violation. If the harassment continues, then the FTC can award damages fro you.

Xenite227 1 year ago 3
Debt collectors are third party companies that get a cut of all of the funds they collect for their clients. The big banks are insulated since they pass this off to another company.
I had collectors call me to gain info on people who work for me, then threaten, and try to intimidate me because I wouldn't disclose that info. They even called pretending to be from my own HQ to gain employee info, and when I probed, the insults and yelling began.
Once, I had to get law enforcement involved.

Talk big, no authority.
dEdGrimley 1 year ago
@dEdGrimley Yeah, but most of the time the person calling you doesn't even directly work for the organization that is due the money. They're basically a contractor that has to go all out on you because it is their only source of revenue. So you better bet they're going to be complete jackasses.

aarondavid826 1 year ago
@aarondavid826 How can you be basically a thief? You either are or aren't. If you paid your debts on time every month and then you lose your job and unemployment doesn't cut it then your obviously going to choose who to stiff. Roof over your head and food in the families mouth before the credit card and gym membership.
BHarris25 1 year ago
@BHarris25 If you can't pay your debt, all the stuff you bought on credit should be taken back, if not, you are a thief
aarondavid826 1 year ago
@aarondavid826 I'd say the real thief's are the credit companies that jack up your rate on your credit card because you were late with your car payment that is a completely different company. Credit companies dug their own hole. I dated a girl that made 7.25$ an hour and they gave her a card with an 8000$ limit. Good Idea. Her minimum payment was like 500$ a month and she only made around 1000$ a month. And what are they supposed to do with the stuff? Sell your underwear on craigslist?
BHarris25 1 year ago
@aarondavid826
Are they thieves all of a sudden?

this guy in school was telling me he got a call for a debt, but it wasn't his debt, he was only put down unknowingly as a reference...so he explained it to the collector yet he kept calling, accusing him of being the one in debt...so this guy had a day party with beer and babes, and "bring your own cell phone" and everyone spend the day calling that number and creating all kinds of chaos...he didn't get calls anymore...

SwampThizzle 1 year ago
the progressive dimwit Cenk should get off this kind of shit! Not happy with the meltdown, blame guys like Cenk and the rest of the progressive social engineers
genie0390 1 year ago
@genie0390 Haha but you gotta admit, saying they're gona come to your house with a tire iron is pretty outrageous. I would probably love that though.
The sub-prime mortgage crisis was not a result of social engineering... Sub-prime mortgages are, theoretically, the most profitable for the banks and the mortgages in which they can charge exorbitant rates that they can raise arbitrarily. Then they use derivatives to make money when poor people who should never have been given the loan cant pay.
volcombillx3 1 year ago
@volcombillx3
so you're saying bankers are to blame for the meltdown? and let's forget about Clinton's CRA, his deregulating financial institutions 1999, Reno threatening bankers with jail terms unless they loosen rules, Barney frank working with Fannie/Freddie to stop bankers redlining poor areas, all these things didn't matter?
getting poor people to own homes was social engineering of the worst kind
how come bankers didn't do their crazy things prior to events mentioned above?
genie0390 1 year ago
@genie0390 To my logic you have a very perverse perspective of the financial collapse and a strange understanding of what the CRA.
I would consider "getting poor people to own homes was social engineering of the worst kind" valid but it was DEREGULATION of the financial industry that lead to the collapse. The deregulation resulted in absurd speculative markets and to this day nothing is being done about it. The banks have become short sighted, too concerned with the quarterly.
volcombillx3 1 year ago
@genie0390 If you're really interested in understanding the situation idk that it can be explained properly in 500 characters, but you need to do a little more research on credit default swaps and credit derivatives.
I don't like excessive government regulation of private enterprise nor do I care for naive policy, such as Clinton's push for everyone to be a home owner but your position seems inconceivable. To anyone well versed on the subject your claims seem so irrational I can't see the logic
volcombillx3 1 year ago
@genie0390 The bankers are corrupt to the core because a system is allowed to exist in which they can get rich by failing. A system where they can collect dividends on bad investments because they are bad investments.
If I loaned John Doe 100 dollars, knowing he was broke and had no means to repay me that would be a bad investment. But if I was allowed to bet you 200$ that John Doe wouldn't be able to pay me, that would make me more money. It's an oversimplification but that is basic gist.
volcombillx3 1 year ago

What kills me is that for us the debt collectors are for clinic/hospital bills. It is a "Christian" organization. They are more aggressive then any of the others I have ever had to deal with. It's not like we went out and bought jet ski we were in the ER because we were in a car accident. The ambulance was $800 alone. The insurance company is fighting us so we are stuck with bills we can't pay.

CommandoDude 1 year ago
@CommandoDude when the issue of money crops up in school, we're told about the mint being the place where currency is created. schools don't tell u about fractional reserve banking and how they conjure money out of thin air! they actively revise history too. they aren't teaching people in schools that the vietnam war was started by a false flag attack; or that Caesar was assassinated for issuing his own money. we're kept in the dark by the very institutions that should be serving us. so i concur
